1 Und Jehova bestellte einen großen Fisch, um Jona zu verschlingen; und Jona war im Bauche des Fisches drei Tage und drei Nächte. 2 Und Jona betete zu Jehova, seinem Gott, aus dem Bauche des Fisches und sprach: 3 Ich rief aus meiner Bedrängnis zu Jehova, und er antwortete mir; ich schrie aus dem Schoße des Scheols, du hörtest meine Stimme. 4 Denn du hattest mich in die Tiefe, in das Herz der Meere geworfen, und der Strom umschloß mich; alle deine Wogen und deine Wellen fuhren über mich hin. 5 Und ich sprach *Eig. Ich zwar sprach :Verstoßen bin ich aus deinen Augen; dennoch werde ich wieder hinschauen nach deinem heiligen Tempel. 6 Die Wasser umfingen mich bis an die Seele, die Tiefe umschloß mich, das Meergras schlang sich um mein Haupt. 7 Ich fuhr hinab zu den Gründen der Berge; der Erde Riegel waren hinter mir auf ewig. Da führtest du mein Leben aus der Grube herauf, Jehova, mein Gott. 8 Als meine Seele in mir verschmachtete, gedachte ich Jehovas, und zu dir kam mein Gebet in deinen heiligen Tempel. *O. Palast9 Die auf nichtige Götzen achten, verlassen ihre Gnade *O. ihre Güte, d. h. den, der ihre Güte ist; vergl. Ps. 144,2.

10 Ich aber werde dir opfern mit der Stimme des Lobes *O. Dankes; was ich gelobt habe, werde ich bezahlen. Bei Jehova *Eig. Jehovas ist die Rettung. Und Jehova befahl dem Fische, und er spie Jona an das Land aus.

1 Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly, 2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.*2.2 by…: or, out of mine affliction*2.2 hell: or, the grave 3 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.*2.3 midst: Heb. heart 4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. 5 The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. 6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.*2.6 bottoms: Heb. cuttings off*2.6 corruption: or, the pit 7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. 8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. 9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

10 And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
