1 And when the day of Pentecost was now come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them tongues parting asunder, like as of fire; and it sat upon each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speaking in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marveled, saying, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we, every man in our own language, wherein we were born? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, in Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia, 10 in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabians, we do hear them speaking in our tongues the mighty works of God. 12 And they were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, What meaneth this? 13 But others mocking said, They are filled with new wine. 14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spake forth unto them, saying, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and give ear unto my words. 15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose; seeing it is but the third hour of the day; 16 but this is that which hath been spoken by the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of my Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams: 18 Yea and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. 19 And I will shew wonders in the heaven above, And signs on the earth beneath; Blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the day of the Lord come, That great and notable day: 21 And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. 22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves know; 23 him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye by the hand of lawless men did crucify and slay: 24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pangs of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. 25 For David saith concerning him, I beheld the Lord always before my face; For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: 26 Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; Moreover my flesh also shall dwell in hope: 27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in Hades, Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption. 28 Thou madest known unto me the ways of life; Thou shalt make me full of gladness with thy countenance. 29 Brethren, I may say unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us unto this day. 30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins he would set one upon his throne; 31 he foreseeing this spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left in Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus did God raise up, whereof we all are witnesses. 33 Being therefore by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath poured forth this, which ye see and hear. 34 For David ascended not into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 35 Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet. 36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified. 37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do? 38 And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him. 40 And with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation. 41 They then that received his word were baptized: and there were added unto them in that day about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 and they sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all, according as any man had need. 46 And day by day, continuing stedfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they did take their food with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to them day by day those that were being saved.

1 Ao cumprir-se o dia de Pentecostes, estavam todos reunidos no mesmo lugar. 2 De repente, veio do céu um som, como de um vento impetuoso, e encheu toda a casa onde estavam sentados. 3 E apareceram, distribuídas entre eles, línguas, como de fogo, as quais pousaram sobre cada um deles. 4 Todos ficaram cheios do Espírito Santo e começaram a falar em outras línguas, segundo o Espírito lhes concedia que falassem.

5 Estavam morando em Jerusalém judeus, homens piedosos, vindos de todas as nações debaixo do céu. 6 Assim, quando se fez ouvir aquela voz, afluiu a multidão, que foi tomada de perplexidade, porque cada um os ouvia falar na sua própria língua. 7 Estavam atônitos e se admiravam, dizendo:

— Vejam! Não são galileus todos esses que aí estão falando? 8 Então como os ouvimos falar, cada um em nossa própria língua materna? 9 Somos partos, medos, elamitas e os naturais da Mesopotâmia, Judeia, Capadócia, Ponto e Ásia, 10 da Frígia, da Panfília, do Egito e das regiões da Líbia, nas imediações de Cirene, e romanos que aqui residem, 11 tanto judeus como prosélitos, cretenses e árabes. Como os ouvimos falar sobre as grandezas de Deus em nossas próprias línguas?

12 Todos, atônitos e perplexos, perguntavam uns aos outros:

— O que será que isso quer dizer?

13 Outros, porém, zombando, diziam:

— Estão bêbados!

14 Então Pedro se levantou, junto com os onze, e, erguendo a voz, dirigiu-se à multidão nestes termos:

— Homens da Judeia e todos vocês que moram em Jerusalém, tomem conhecimento disto e prestem atenção no que vou dizer. 15 Estes homens não estão bêbados, como vocês estão pensando, porque são apenas nove horas da manhã. 16 Mas o que está acontecendo é o que foi dito por meio do profeta Joel:

17 "E acontecerá nos últimos dias,

diz Deus,

que derramarei o meu Espírito

sobre toda a humanidade.

Os filhos e as filhas de vocês

profetizarão,

os seus jovens terão visões,

e os seus velhos sonharão.

18 Até sobre os meus servos

e sobre as minhas servas

derramarei o meu Espírito

naqueles dias,

e profetizarão.

19 Mostrarei prodígios

em cima no céu

e sinais embaixo na terra:

sangue, fogo e nuvens de fumaça.

20 O sol se transformará em trevas,

e a lua, em sangue,

antes que venha o grande

e glorioso Dia do Senhor.

21 E acontecerá que todo aquele

que invocar o nome do Senhor

será salvo."

22 — Israelitas, escutem o que vou dizer: Jesus, o Nazareno, homem aprovado por Deus diante de vocês com milagres, prodígios e sinais, os quais o próprio Deus realizou entre vocês por meio dele, como vocês mesmos sabem, 23 a este, conforme o plano determinado e a presciência de Deus, vocês mataram, crucificando-o por meio de homens maus. 24 Porém Deus o ressuscitou, livrando-o da agonia da morte, porque não era possível que fosse retido por ela. 25 Porque Davi fala a respeito dele, dizendo:

"Eu sempre via o Senhor

diante de mim,

porque ele está à minha direita,

para que eu não seja abalado.

26 Por isso, o meu coração

se alegra

e a minha língua exulta;

além disto, também

a minha própria carne

repousará em esperança,

27 porque não deixarás

a minha alma na morte,

nem permitirás que

o teu Santo veja corrupção.

28 Fizeste-me conhecer

os caminhos da vida,

e me encherás de alegria

na tua presença."

29 — Irmãos, permitam-me falar-lhes claramente a respeito do patriarca Davi: ele morreu e foi sepultado, e o seu túmulo permanece entre nós até hoje. 30 Sendo, pois, profeta e sabendo que Deus lhe havia jurado que um dos seus descendentes se assentaria no seu trono, 31 prevendo isto, referiu-se à ressurreição de Cristo, que nem foi deixado na morte, nem o seu corpo experimentou corrupção. 32 Deus ressuscitou este Jesus, e disto todos nós somos testemunhas. 33 Exaltado, pois, à direita de Deus, tendo recebido do Pai a promessa do Espírito Santo, derramou isto que vocês estão vendo e ouvindo. 34 Porque Davi não subiu aos céus, mas ele mesmo afirma:

"Disse o Senhor ao meu Senhor:

‘Sente-se à minha direita,

35 até que eu ponha

os seus inimigos

por estrado dos seus pés.’"

36 — Portanto, toda a casa de Israel esteja absolutamente certa de que a este Jesus, que vocês crucificaram, Deus o fez Senhor e Cristo.

37 Quando ouviram isso, ficaram muito comovidos e perguntaram a Pedro e aos demais apóstolos:

— Que faremos, irmãos?

38 Pedro respondeu:

— Arrependam-se, e cada um de vocês seja batizado em nome de Jesus Cristo para remissão dos seus pecados, e vocês receberão o dom do Espírito Santo. 39 Porque a promessa é para vocês e para os seus filhos, e para todos os que ainda estão longe, isto é, para todos aqueles que o Senhor, nosso Deus, chamar.

40 Com muitas outras palavras deu testemunho e exortava-os, dizendo:

— Salvem-se desta geração perversa.

41 Então os que aceitaram a palavra de Pedro foram batizados, havendo um acréscimo naquele dia de quase três mil pessoas.

42 E perseveravam na doutrina dos apóstolos e na comunhão, no partir do pão e nas orações. 43 Em cada alma havia temor; e muitos prodígios e sinais eram feitos por meio dos apóstolos. 44 Todos os que criam estavam juntos e tinham tudo em comum. 45 Vendiam as suas propriedades e bens, distribuindo o produto entre todos, à medida que alguém tinha necessidade. 46 Diariamente perseveravam unânimes no templo, partiam pão de casa em casa e tomavam as suas refeições com alegria e singeleza de coração, 47 louvando a Deus e contando com a simpatia de todo o povo. Enquanto isso, o Senhor lhes acrescentava, dia a dia, os que iam sendo salvos.
