20 But as he considered these things, behold, *ch. 2:13,19;[ch. 2:12,22]an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and *ver. 25;Luke 1:31;2:21you shall call his name Jesus, *Luke 2:11;Acts 4:12;5:31;13:23,38;[Acts 3:26]for he will save his people from their sins." 22 *ch. 21:4;26:56;John 19:36All this took place *ch. 2:15,23;4:14;Mark 14:49to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

23 *Cited from Isa. 7:14"Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,

and they shall call his name *Isa. 8:8,10Immanuel"

(which means, God *See ch. 28:20with us). 24 When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, 25 but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And *ver. 21he called his name Jesus.
