20 But after he had considered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 1:20 2Ch 1:1; Mt 13:49; 27:19; Jn 6:20; Rm 1:321 She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, 1:21 Lk 1:31; 2:21; Jn 10:25; 1Jn 2:12 because he will save his people from their sins." 1:21 Lk 2:11; Jn 1:29; Ac 4:12; 5:31; 13:23,38–39
22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
23 See, the virgin will become pregnant
and give birth to a son,
and they will name him Immanuel, 1:23 Is 7:14
which is translated "God is with us." 1:22–23 Is 7:14; Mt 21:1–4; Lk 24:44; Rm 1:2–4
