1 The same day did King Ahashuerosh giue the house of Haman the aduersarie of the Iewes vnto the Queene Ester. and Mordecai came before the King: for Ester tolde what hee was vnto her. 2 And the King tooke off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gaue it vnto Mordecai: and Ester set Mordecai ouer the house of Haman. 3 And Ester spake yet more before the King, and fell downe at his feete weeping, and besought him that he would put away the wickednes of Haman the Agagite, and his deuice that he had imagined against the Iewes. 4 And the King held out the golden scepter toward Ester. Then arose Ester, and stood before the King, 5 And sayd, If it please the King, and if I haue found fauour in his sight, and the thing be acceptable before the King, and I please him, let it be written, that the letters of the deuice of Haman the sonne of Ammedatha the Agagite may be called againe, which he wrote to destroy the Iewes, that are in all the Kings prouinces. 6 For how can I suffer and see the euil, that shall come vnto my people? Or howe can I suffer and see the destruction of my kinred? 7 And the King Ahashuerosh sayde vnto the Queene Ester, and to Mordecai the Iewe, Behold, I haue giuen Ester the house of Haman, whome they haue hanged vpon the tree, because he layd hand vpon the Iewes. 8 Write yee also for the Iewes, as it liketh you in the Kinges name, and seale it with the Kings ring (for the writings written in the Kings name, and sealed with the Kings ring, may no man reuoke) 9 Then were the Kings Scribes called at the same time, euen in the thirde moneth, that is the moneth Siuan, on the three and twentieth day thereof: and it was written, according to all as Mordecai commanded, vnto the Iewes and to the princes, and captaines, and rulers of the prouinces, which were from India euen vnto Ethiopia, an hundreth and seuen and twentie prouinces, vnto euery prouince, according to the writing thereof, and to euery people after their speache, and to the Iewes, according to their writing, and according to their language. 10 And hee wrote in the King Ahashuerosh name, and sealed it with the Kings ring: and he sent letters by postes on horsebacke and that rode on beastes of price, as dromedaries and coltes of mares. 11 Wherein the King graunted the Iewes (in what cities so euer they were) to gather theselues together, and to stand for their life, and to roote out, to slay and to destroy al the power of the people and of the prouince that vexed them, both children and women, and to spoyle their goods: 12 Vpon one day in all the prouinces of King Ahashuerosh, euen in the thirteenth day of the twelft moneth, which is the moneth Adar. 13 The copie of the writing was, howe there should be a commandement giuen in all and euery prouince, published among all the people, and that the Iewes should be ready against that day to auenge themselues on their enemies. 14 So the postes rode vpon beasts of price, and dromedaries, and went forth with speede, to execute the Kings commandement, and the decree was giuen at Shushan the palace. 15 And Mordecai went out from the King in royall apparell of blewe, and white, and with a great crowne of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple, and the citie of Shushan reioyced and was glad. 16 And vnto the Iewes was come light and ioy and gladnes, and honour. 17 Also in all and euery prouince, and in al and euery citie and place, where the Kings commandement and his decree came, there was ioy and gladnes to the Iewes, a feast and good day, and many of the people of the land became Iewes: for the feare of the Iewes fell vpon them.

1 Naquele dia deu o rei Assuero à rainha Ester a casa de Hamã, inimigo dos judeus. Mordecai apresentou-se ao rei, pois Ester tinha revelado que era sua parenta.

2 O rei tirou o seu anel que tinha tirado a Hamã, e deu-o a Mordecai. Ester encarregou a Mordecai da casa de Hamã.

3 Ester tornou a falar perante o rei, e lançou-se-lhe aos pés, e com lágrimas suplicou que impedisse a maldade de Hamã, agagita, e o plano que tinha excogitado contra os judeus.

4 Então o rei estendeu para ela o cetro de ouro. Ester levantou-se, pôs-se em pé diante do rei

5 e disse: Se parecer bem ao rei, e se eu tiver alcançado o seu favor, e se parecer justo ao rei e se eu lhe agradar, escreva-se que sejam revogados os despachos, concebidos por Hamã, filho de Hamedata, agagita, os quais escreveu para lançar a perder os judeus que estão em todas as províncias do rei.

6 Pois como poderei ver a calamidade que cairá sobre o meu povo, ou como poderei ver a destruição dos meus parentes?

7 O rei Assuero disse à rainha Ester e ao judeu Mordecai: Eis que dei a Ester a casa de Hamã, e a ele penduraram-no na forca, porque estendeu a mão contra os judeus.

8 Escrevei vós também aos judeus como vos parecer bem, em nome do rei, e selai-o com o anel do rei; pois o documento que se escreve em nome do rei e que se sela com o anel do rei, não se pode revogar.

9 Então foram chamados os secretários do rei naquele tempo, no terceiro mês que é o mês de Sivã, aos vinte e três dias do mesmo. Um despacho foi preparado, segundo tudo o que Mordecai ordenou, para os judeus, para os sátrapas, para os governadores e para os príncipes das províncias, que se estendem da Índia até a Etiópia, cento e vinte e sete províncias, para cada província segundo o seu modo de escrever, para cada povo segundo a sua língua, e para os judeus segundo o seu modo de escrever e segundo a sua língua.

10 Ele escreveu em nome de Assuero, selou-o com o anel do rei, e enviou cartas por correios a cavalo, montados em ginetes que se usavam no serviço do rei e que eram da sua coudelaria.

11 Nestas cartas o rei concedeu aos judeus de cada cidade que se ajuntassem e se dispusessem para defender as suas vidas, que destruíssem e matassem, e fizessem perecer juntamente com os seus pequeninos e suas mulheres, todos os poderosos do povo e da província que os quiseram assaltar, e que os saqueassem,

12 num mesmo dia, por todas as províncias do rei Assuero, no dia treze do duodécimo mês, que é o mês de Adar.

13 A cópia do despacho, que determinou a divulgação do decreto em todas as províncias, foi publicada entre todos os povos, para que os judeus estivessem preparados para aquele dia, a fim de se vingarem dos seus inimigos.

14 Partiram os correios montados em ginetes que se usavam no serviço do rei, apressados e impelidos pela ordem do rei; o decreto foi proclamado no castelo de Susã.

15 Mordecai saiu da presença do rei, trajando um vestido real de azul e branco, tendo uma grande coroa de ouro, e vestido de um manto de linho fino e de púrpura; a cidade de Susã jubilou e alegrou-se.

16 Para os judeus havia luz e alegria, gozo e honra.

17 Em todas as províncias e em todas as cidades, aonde chegou a ordem do rei, e o seu decreto, havia entre os judeus alegria e gozo, banquetes e festas. Muitos dos povos da terra se tornaram judeus, porque o medo dos judeus tinha caído sobre eles.
