1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. 7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. 8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. 9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. 11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

1 Antes de tudo, peço que se façam súplicas, orações, intercessões e ações de graças por todos os homens; 2 pelos reis e por todos os que exercem autoridade, para que tenhamos uma vida tranquila e pacífica, com toda a piedade e dignidade. 3 Isso é bom e agradável diante de Deus, o nosso Salvador, 4 que deseja que todos os homens sejam salvos e cheguem ao conhecimento da verdade. 5 Pois há um só Deus e um só mediador entre Deus e os homens, o homem Cristo Jesus, 6 o qual entregou a si mesmo como resgate por todos. Esse foi o testemunho dado no seu devido tempo. 7 Para isso fui designado mensageiro e apóstolo. Digo a verdade, não minto: Deus me fez mestre da fé e da verdade aos gentios.

8 Quero, pois, que os homens orem em todo lugar, levantando mãos santas, sem ira nem discussões.

9 Da mesma forma, quero que as mulheres se vistam apropriadamente, adornando‑se com modéstia e discrição, não com tranças ou ouro, nem com pérolas ou roupas caras, 10 mas com boas obras, como convém a mulheres que declaram adorar a Deus.

11 Uma mulher deve aprender em quietude, com toda a sujeição. 12 Não permito que a mulher ensine nem que tenha autoridade sobre o homem; esteja, porém, em quietude. 13 Porque primeiro foi formado Adão; depois, Eva. 14 E Adão não foi enganado, mas a mulher, por ter sido enganada, tornou‑se transgressora. 15 Entretanto, a mulher* será preservada* por meio da maternidade se permanecer na fé, no amor e na santidade, com bom senso.
