1 Or Josias célébra la Pâque à l'Eternel dans Jérusalem, et on égorgea la Pâque, le quatorzième jour du premier mois.
2 Et il établit les Sacrificateurs en leurs charges, et les encouragea au service de la maison de l'Eternel.
3 Il dit aussi aux Lévites qui enseignaient tout Israël, et qui étaient saints à l'Eternel : Laissez l'Arche sainte au Temple que Salomon fils de David Roi d'Israël a bâti; vous n'avez plus la charge de la porter sur vos épaules, maintenant servez l'Eternel votre Dieu, et son peuple d'Israël;
4 Et rangez-vous selon les maisons de vos pères, selon vos départements, et selon la description qui a été faite par David Roi d'Israël, et la description faite par Salomon son fils.
5 Et aidez vos frères les enfants du peuple, dans le Sanctuaire, selon les départements des maisons des pères, et selon que chaque famille des Lévites est partagée.
6 Et égorgez la Pâque. Sanctifiez-vous donc, et en apprêtez à vos frères, afin qu'ils la puissent faire selon la parole que l'Eternel a donnée par le moyen de Moïse.
7 Et Josias fit présent à ceux du peuple qui se trouvèrent là, d'un troupeau d'agneaux et de chevreaux, au nombre de trente mille, le tout pour faire la Pâque, et de trois mille bœufs; et ces choses-là étaient des biens du Roi.
8 Ses principaux [officiers] firent aussi de leur bon gré un présent pour le peuple, aux Sacrificateurs et aux Lévites; et Hilkija, Zacharie, et Jéhiël, conducteurs de la maison de Dieu, donnèrent aux Sacrificateurs, pour faire la Pâque, deux mille six cents [agneaux ou chevreaux], et trois cents bœufs.
9 Et Conania, Sémahia, et Nathanaël ses frères, et Hasabia, Jéhiël, et Jozabad, qui étaient les principaux des Lévites, en présentèrent cinq mille aux autres pour faire la Pâque, et cinq cents bœufs.
10 Ainsi le service étant tout préparé, les Sacrificateurs se tinrent en leurs places, et les Lévites en leurs départements, selon le commandement du Roi.
11 Puis on égorgea la Pâque, et les Sacrificateurs répandaient [le sang, le prenant] de leurs mains, et les Lévites écorchaient.
12 Et comme ils les distribuaient selon les départements des maisons des pères de ceux du peuple, ils mirent à part l'holocauste pour l'offrir à l'Eternel, selon qu'il est écrit au Livre de Moïse; et ils en firent ainsi des bœufs.
13 Ils rôtirent donc la Pâque au feu, selon la coutume, mais ils cuisirent dans des chaudières, des chaudrons, et des poêles, les choses consacrées, et les firent courir parmi tout le peuple.
14 Puis ils apprêtèrent [ce qu'il fallait] pour eux, et pour les Sacrificateurs; car les Sacrificateurs, enfants d'Aaron, [avaient été occupés] jusqu'à la nuit en l'oblation des holocaustes et des graisses; c'est pourquoi les Lévites apprêtèrent [ce qu'il fallait] pour eux, et pour les Sacrificateurs, enfants d'Aaron.
15 Et les chantres, enfants d'Asaph, se tinrent en leur place, selon le commandement de David, et d'Asaph, avec [les enfants] d'Héman, et de Jéduthun le Voyant du Roi; les portiers aussi étaient à chaque porte, et il n'était pas besoin qu'ils se détournassent de leur ministère, car les Lévites leurs frères apprêtaient [ce qu'il fallait] pour eux.
16 Et ainsi tout le service de l'Eternel en ce jour-là fut réglé pour faire la Pâque, et pour offrir les holocaustes sur l'autel de l'Eternel, selon le commandement du Roi Josias.
17 Les enfants d'Israël donc qui s'y trouvèrent, célébrèrent la Pâque en ce temps-là, et ils célébrèrent aussi la fête solennelle des pains sans levain pendant sept jours.
18 Or on n'avait point célébré en Israël de Pâque semblable à celle-là, depuis les jours de Samuel le Prophète; et nul des Rois d'Israël n'avait jamais célébré une telle Pâque comme fit Josias, avec les Sacrificateurs et les Lévites, et tout Juda et Israël, qui s'y étaient trouvés avec les habitants de Jérusalem.
19 Cette Pâque fut célébrée la dix-huitième année du règne de Josias.
20 Après tout cela, et après que Josias eut rétabli [l'ordre du Temple], Nécò Roi d'Egypte monta pour faire la guerre à Carkémis sur l'Euphrate; et Josias s'en alla à sa rencontre.
21 Mais [Nécò] envoya vers lui des messagers, pour lui dire : Qu'y a-t-il entre nous, Roi de Juda? Quant à toi, ce n'est pas à toi que j'en veux aujourd'hui, mais à une maison qui me fait la guerre, et Dieu m'a dit que je me hâtasse. Désiste-toi donc de venir contre Dieu, qui est avec moi, afin qu'il ne te détruise.
22 Mais Josias ne voulut point se détourner de lui, mais se déguisa pour combattre contre lui, et il n'écouta point les paroles de Nécò [qui procédaient] de la bouche de Dieu. Il vint donc pour combattre dans la campagne de Méguiddo.
23 Et les archers tirèrent contre le Roi Josias, et le Roi dit à ses serviteurs : Otez-moi d'ici; car on m'a fort blessé.
24 Et ses serviteurs l'ôtèrent du chariot, et le mirent sur un second chariot qu'il avait, et le menèrent à Jérusalem, où il mourut; et il fut enseveli dans les sépulcres de ses pères, et tous ceux de Juda et de Jérusalem menèrent deuil sur Josias.
25 Jérémie aussi fit des lamentations sur Josias, et tous les chanteurs et toutes les chanteuses en parlèrent dans leurs lamentations sur Josias, et ces [lamentations se sont conservées] jusqu'à ce jour, ayant été données en ordonnance à Israël. Or voici ces choses sont écrites dans les lamentations.
26 Et le reste des faits de Josias et ses actions de piété, selon ce qui est écrit dans la Loi de l'Eternel;
27 Ses faits, [dis-je], les premiers et les derniers, voilà ils [sont] écrits au Llivre des Rois d'Israël et de Juda.
1 And Josiah kept a Passover to the Lord in Jerusalem; on the fourteenth day of the first month they put the Passover lamb to death.
2 And he gave the priests their places, making them strong for the work of the house of God.
3 And he said to the Levites, the teachers of all Israel, who were holy to the Lord, See, the holy ark is in the house which Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel, made; it will no longer have to be transported on your backs: now be the servants of the Lord your God and his people Israel,
4 And make yourselves ready in your divisions, by your families, as it is ordered in the writings of David, king of Israel, and of Solomon his son;
5 And take your positions in the holy place, grouped in the families of your brothers, the children of the people, and for every division let there be a part of a family of the Levites.
6 And put the Passover lamb to death, and make yourselves holy, and make it ready for your brothers, so that the orders given by the Lord through Moses may be done.
7 And Josiah gave lambs and goats from the flock as Passover offerings for all the people who were present, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand oxen: these were from the king's private property.
8 And his captains freely gave an offering to the people, the priests, and the Levites. Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel, the rulers of the house of God, gave to the priests for the Passover offerings two thousand, six hundred small cattle and three hundred oxen.
9 And Conaniah and Shemaiah and Nethanel, his brothers, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, the chiefs of the Levites, gave to the Levites for the Passover offerings five thousand small cattle and five hundred oxen.
10 So everything was made ready and the priests took their places with the Levites in their divisions, as the king had said.
11 And they put the Passover lambs to death, the blood being drained out by the priests when it was given to them, and the Levites did the skinning.
12 And they took away the burned offerings, so that they might give them to be offered to the Lord for the divisions of the families of the people, as it is recorded in the book of Moses. And they did the same with the oxen.
13 And the Passover lamb was cooked over the fire, as it says in the law; and the holy offerings were cooked in pots and basins and vessels, and taken quickly to all the people.
14 And after that, they made ready for themselves and for the priests; for the priests, the sons of Aaron, were offering the burned offerings and the fat till night; so the Levites made ready what was needed for themselves and for the priests, the sons of Aaron.
15 And the sons of Asaph, the makers of melody, were in their places, as ordered by David and Asaph and Heman and Jeduthun, the king's seer; and the door-keepers were stationed at every door: there was no need for them to go away from their places, for their brothers the Levites made ready for them.
16 So everything needed for the worship of the Lord was made ready that same day, for the keeping of the Passover and the offering of burned offerings on the altar of the Lord, as King Josiah had given orders.
17 And all the children of Israel who were present kept the Passover and the feast of unleavened bread at that time for seven days.
18 No Passover like it had been kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; and not one of the kings of Israel had ever kept a Passover like the one kept by Josiah and the priests and the Levites and all those of Judah and Israel who were present, and the people of Jerusalem.
19 In the eighteenth year of the rule of Josiah this Passover was kept.
20 After all this, and after Josiah had put the house in order, Neco, king of Egypt, went up to make war at Carchemish by the river Euphrates; and Josiah went out against him.
21 But he sent representatives to him, saying, What have I to do with you, O king of Judah? I have not come against you this day, but against those with whom I am at war; and God has given me orders to go forward quickly: keep out of God's way, for he is with me, or he will send destruction on you.
22 However, Josiah would not go back; but keeping to his purpose of fighting against him, and giving no attention to the words of Neco, which came from God, he went forward to the fight in the valley of Megiddo.
23 And the bowmen sent their arrows at King Josiah, and the king said to his servants, Take me away, for I am badly wounded.
24 So his servants took him out of the line of war-carriages, and put him in his second carriage and took him to Jerusalem, where he came to his end, and they put his body in the resting-place of his fathers. And in all Judah and Jerusalem there was great weeping for Josiah.
25 And Jeremiah made a song of grief for Josiah; and to this day Josiah is named by all the makers of melody, men and women, in their songs of grief; they made it a rule in Israel; and the songs are recorded among the songs of grief.
26 Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and the good he did, in keeping with what is recorded in the law of the Lord,
27 And all his acts, first and last, are recorded in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
