1 Or il arriva après que David fut tranquille en sa maison, qu'il dit à Nathan le Prophète : Voici, je demeure dans une maison de cèdres, et l'Arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel n'est que sous des courtines.
2 Et Nathan dit à David : Fais tout ce qui est en ton cœur; car Dieu est avec toi.
3 Mais il arriva cette nuit-là que la parole de Dieu fut adressée à Nathan, en disant :
4 Va, et dis à David mon serviteur : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel : Tu ne me bâtiras point de maison pour y habiter;
5 Puisque je n'ai point habité dans aucune maison depuis le temps que j'ai fait monter les enfants d'Israël [hors d'Egypte] jusqu'à ce jour; mais j'ai été de tabernacle en tabernacle, et de pavillon en pavillon.
6 Partout où i'ai marché avec tout Israël, en ai-je parlé à un seul des Juges d'Israël, auxquels j'ai commandé de paître mon peuple, et leur ai-je dit : Pourquoi ne m'avez-vous point bâti une maison de cèdres?
7 Maintenant donc tu diras ainsi à David mon serviteur : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel des armées : Je t'ai pris d'une cabane, d'après les brebis, afin que tu fusses le conducteur de mon peuple d'Israël;
8 Et j'ai été avec toi partout où tu as marché, et j'ai exterminé de devant toi tous tes ennemis, et je t'ai fait un nom tel qu'est le nom des Grands qui sont sur la terre.
9 Et j'établirai un lieu à mon peuple d'Israël, et je le planterai, et il habitera chez soi, et ne sera plus agité; les fils d'iniquité ne le mineront plus comme ils ont fait auparavant.
10 Savoir; depuis les jours que j'ai ordonné des Juges sur mon peuple d'Israël, que j'ai abaissé tous tes ennemis, et que je t'ai fait entendre que l'Eternel te bâtirait une maison.
11 Il arrivera donc que quand tes jours seront accomplis pour t'en aller avec tes pères, je ferai lever ta postérité après toi, qui sera un de tes fils, et j'établirai son règne.
12 Il me bâtira une maison, et j'affermirai son trône à jamais.
13 Je lui serai père, et il me sera fils; et je ne retirerai point de lui ma gratuité, comme je l'ai retirée de celui qui a été avant toi.
14 Mais je l'établirai dans ma maison et dans mon Royaume à jamais, et son trône sera affermi pour toujours.
15 Nathan récita à David toutes ces paroles, et toute cette vision.
16 Alors le Roi David entra, et se tint devant l'Eternel, et dit : Ô Eternel Dieu! Qui suis-je, et quelle est ma maison, que tu m'aies fait parvenir au point [où je suis]?
17 Mais cela t'a semblé être peu de chose, ô Dieu! et tu as parlé de la maison de ton serviteur pour le temps à venir, et tu as pourvu à moi; l'excellence de l'homme est selon ce qu'il est, ô Eternel Dieu!
18 Que te pourrait [dire] encore David de l'honneur [que tu fais] à ton serviteur? car tu connais ton serviteur.
19 Ô Eternel! pour l'amour de ton serviteur, et selon ton cœur, tu as fait toutes ces grandes choses, pour faire connaître toutes ces grandeurs.
20 Ô Eternel! il n'y en a point de semblable à toi, et il n'y a point d'autre Dieu que toi selon tout ce que nous avons entendu de nos oreilles.
21 Et qui est comme ton peuple d'Israël, la seule nation sur la terre que Dieu lui-même est venu racheter pour soi, afin qu'elle soit son peuple, [et] pour t'acquérir un renom de choses grandes et redoutables, en chassant les nations de devant ton peuple, que tu t'es racheté d'Egypte?
22 Et tu t'es établi ton peuple d'Israël pour peuple à jamais; et toi, ô Eternel! tu leur as été Dieu.
23 Maintenant donc, ô Eternel! que la parole, que tu as prononcée touchant ton serviteur et sa maison, soit ferme à jamais, et fais comme tu en as parlé.
24 Et que ton Nom demeure ferme, et soit magnifié à jamais, de sorte qu'on dise : L'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël est Dieu à Israël; et que la maison de David ton serviteur soit affermie devant toi.
25 Car tu as fait, ô mon Dieu! entendre à ton serviteur que tu lui bâtirais une maison; c'est pourquoi ton serviteur a pris la hardiesse de te faire cette prière.
26 Or maintenant, ô Eternel! tu es Dieu, et tu as parlé de ce bien à ton serviteur.
27 Veuille donc maintenant bénir la maison de ton serviteur, afin qu'elle soit éternellement devant toi; car, tu l'as bénie, ô Eternel! et elle sera bénie à jamais.
1 Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in a house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remains under curtains.
2 Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in your heart; for God is with you.
3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,
4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus says the LORD, You shall not build me a house to dwell in:
5 For I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.
6 Wherever I have walked with all Israel, spoke I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have you not built me a house of cedars?
7 Now therefore thus shall you say unto my servant David, Thus says the LORD of hosts, I took you from the sheepfold, even from following the sheep, that you should be ruler over my people Israel:
8 And I have been with you wherever you have walked, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.
9 Also I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness oppress them any more, as at the beginning,
10 And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all your enemies. Furthermore I tell you that the LORD will build you a house.
11 And it shall come to pass, when your days are ended that you must go to be with your fathers, that I will raise up your descendant after you, who shall be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
12 He shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.
13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before you:
14 But I will settle him in my house and in my kingdom forever: and his throne shall be established forevermore.
15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.
16 And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house, that you have brought me this far?
17 And yet this was a small thing in your eyes, O God; for you have also spoken of your servant’s house for a great while to come, and have regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.
18 What can David speak more to you for the honor of your servant? for you know your servant.
19 O LORD, for your servant’s sake, and according to your own heart, have you done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.
20 O LORD, there is none like you, neither is there any God beside you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
21 And what one nation in the earth is like your people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make you a name of greatness and awesomeness, by driving out nations from before your people, whom you have redeemed out of Egypt?
22 For your people Israel did you make your own people forever; and you, LORD, became their God.
23 Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house be established forever, and do as you have said.
24 Let it even be established, that your name may be magnified forever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David your servant be established before you.
25 For you, O my God, have told your servant that you will build him a house: therefore your servant has found in his heart to pray before you.
26 And now, LORD, you are God, and have promised this goodness unto your servant:
27 Now therefore let it please you to bless the house of your servant, that it may be before you forever: for you bless, O LORD, and it shall be blessed forever.
