1 Et David dit : C'est ici la maison de l'Eternel Dieu, et [c'est] ici l'autel pour les holocaustes d'Israël.

2 Et David commanda qu'on assemblât les étrangers qui étaient au pays d'Israël, et il prit d'entr'eux des maçons pour tailler des pierres de taille, afin d'en bâtir la maison de Dieu.

3 David assembla aussi du fer en abondance, afin d'en faire des clous pour les linteaux des portes, et pour les assemblages; et une si grande quantité d'airain qu'il était sans poids ;

4 Et du bois de cèdre sans nombre; parce que les Sidoniens et les Tyriens amenaient à David du bois de cèdre en abondance.

5 Car David dit : Salomon mon fils [est] jeune et délicat, et la maison qu'il faut bâtir à l'Eternel doit être magnifique en excellence, en réputation, et en gloire, dans tous les pays; je lui préparerai donc maintenant [de quoi la bâtir]. Ainsi David prépara, avant sa mort, ces choses en abondance.

6 Puis il appela Salomon son fils, et lui commanda de bâtir une maison à l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël.

7 David donc dit à Salomon : Mon fils, j'ai désiré de bâtir une maison au Nom de l'Eternel mon Dieu;

8 Mais la parole de l'Eternel m'a été adressée, en disant : Tu as répandu beaucoup de sang, et tu as fait de grandes guerres; tu ne bâtiras point de maison à mon Nom, parce que tu as répandu beaucoup de sang sur la terre devant moi.

9 Voici, il va te naître un fils, qui sera homme de paix; et je le rendrai tranquille par rapport à tous ses ennemis tout autour, c'est pourquoi son nom sera Salomon. Et en son temps je donnerai la paix et le repos à Israël;

10 Ce sera lui qui bâtira une maison à mon Nom; et il me sera fils, et je lui serai père; [et j'affermirai] le trône de son règne sur Israël, à jamais.

11 Maintenant donc, mon fils! l'Eternel sera avec toi, et tu prospéreras, et tu bâtiras la maison de l'Eternel ton Dieu, ainsi qu'il a parlé de toi.

12 Seulement, que l'Eternel te donne de la sagesse et de l'intelligence, et qu'il t'instruise touchant le gouvernement d'Israël, et comment tu dois garder la Loi de l'Eternel ton Dieu.

13 Et tu prospéreras si tu prends garde à faire les statuts et les ordonnances que l'Eternel a prescrites à Moïse pour Israël. Fortifie-toi et prends courage; ne crains point, et ne t'effraie de rien.

14 Voici, selon ma petitesse j'ai préparé pour la maison de l'Eternel cent mille talents d'or, et un million de talents d'argent. Quant à l'airain et au fer, il est sans poids, car il est en grande abondance. J'ai aussi préparé le bois et les pierres; et tu y ajouteras [ce qu'il faudra].

15 Tu as avec toi beaucoup d'ouvriers, de maçons, de tailleurs de pierres, de charpentiers, et de toute sorte de gens experts en tout ouvrage.

16 Il y a de l'or et de l'argent, de l'airain et du fer sans nombre; applique-toi donc à la faire, et l'Eternel sera avec toi.

17 David commanda aussi à tous les principaux d'Israël d'aider Salomon son fils; et il leur dit :

18 L'Eternel votre Dieu n'est-il pas avec vous, et ne vous a-t-il pas donné du repos de tous côtés? car il a livré entre mes mains les habitants du pays, et le pays a été soumis devant l'Eternel, et devant son peuple.

19 Maintenant donc appliquez vos cœurs et vos âmes à rechercher l'Eternel votre Dieu, et mettez-vous à bâtir le Sanctuaire de l'Eternel Dieu, pour amener l'Arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel, et les saints vaisseaux de Dieu dans la maison qui doit être bâtie au Nom de l'Eternel.

1 Then David said, This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of the burnt offering for Israel.

2 And David commanded to gather together the sojourners that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to cut hewn stones to build the house of God.

3 And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the fittings; and bronze in abundance without weight;

4 Also cedar trees in abundance: for the Zidonians and they of Tyre brought much cedar wood to David.

5 And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.

6 Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build a house for the LORD God of Israel.

7 And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build a house unto the name of the LORD my God:

8 But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, You have shed blood abundantly, and have made great wars: you shall not build a house unto my name, because you have shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.

9 Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.

10 He shall build a house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.

11 Now, my son, the LORD be with you; and prosper you, and build the house of the LORD your God, as he has said of you.

12 Only the LORD give you wisdom and understanding, and give you charge concerning Israel, that you may keep the law of the LORD your God.

13 Then shall you prosper, if you take heed to fulfill the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed.

14 Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD a hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of bronze and iron beyond weighing; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and you may add to it.

15 Moreover there are workmen with you in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all manner of skillful men for every manner of work.

16 Of the gold, the silver, and the bronze, and the iron, there is no limit. Arise therefore, and begin working, and the LORD be with you.

17 David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,

18 Is not the LORD your God with you? and has he not given you rest on every side? for he has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand; and the land is subdued before the LORD, and before his people.

19 Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build you the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.
