Amós 5

He Karanga ki te Rīpenetātanga

1 Whakarongo ki tēnei kupu, kua maranga nei i ahau hei tangi ki a koutou, e te whare o Īharaira:

2 "Kua hinga te wāhina a Īharaira,

e kore ia e ara i muri;

kua whakatakā ia ki runga ki tōna oneone;

kāhore he mea hei whakaara ake i a ia."

3 Nō te mea ko te kupu tēnei a te Ariki, a Ihowā:

"Ko te pā kotahi nei te mano i te haerenga atu,

kotahi rau e toe,

ā, ko tērā kotahi nei te rau i te haerenga atu,

kotahi tekau e toe ki te whare o Īharaira."

4 Ko te kupu hoki tēnei a Ihowā ki te whare o Īharaira:

"Rapua ahau, kia ora ai koutou;

5 otiia, kaua e rapu i Pētēre,

kaua e haere ki Kirikara,

kaua anō e haere ki Peerehepa;

nō te mea tērā a Kirikara ka riro i te whakarau,

ā, hei kore noa iho a Pētēre."

6 Rapua a Ihowā, ā, ka ora koutou;

kei toro atu ia, ānō he ahi, i roto i te whare o Hōhepa,

ā, pau noa, ā, kore noa iho he kaitinei i roto i Pētēre.

7 E te hunga i puta kē ai te whakawā hei taru kawa,

i tāia ai te tika ki te whenua.

8 Rapua te kaihanga o Matariki, o Tautoru;

e riro kē ana i a ia te ātārangi o te mate hei ata,

e whakapōuritia ana e ia te rā hei pō;

e karangatia ana e ia ngā wai o te moana,

ā, ringihia ana e ia ki runga ki te mata o te whenua,

ko Ihowā tōna ingoa;

9 nāna i whakaputa ohorere te whakangaromanga ki te hunga kaha,

i tae ai te whakangaromanga ki te pā kaha.

10 E kinongia ana e rātou te kairiri hē i te kūwaha,

ā, he mea whakarihariha ki a rātou te tangata kōrero tika.

11 Nā, i te mea he takahi tā koutou i te ware,

he tango i te takoha wīti i a ia;

he whare kōhatu tārai tā koutou i hanga ai,

nā, e kore e nohoia e koutou;

he māra wāina e minaminatia ana tā koutou i whakatō ai,

otiia e kore te wāina o aua māra e inumia e koutou.

12 E mōhiotia ana hoki e ahau te maha o ō koutou poka kē,

me te kaha o ō koutou hara –

o koutou e whakatupu kino nei i te tangata tika,

e tango nei i te utu whakapati,

e whakangau kē nei i tā te rawakore i te kūwaha.

13 Mō reira ka whakarongo puku te tangata tūpato i taua wā;

nō te mea he wā kino.

14 Rapua te pai, kauaka hoki te kino,

kia ora ai koutou;

pēnei ko Ihowā, ko te Atua o ngā mano hei hoa mō koutou,

hei pēnā anō me tā koutou e kī nā.

15 Kinongia te kino, arohaina te pai,

whakapūmautia te whakawā ki te kūwaha.

Tērā pea a Ihowā, te Atua o ngā mano,

ka aroha ki te toenga o Hōhepa.

16 Mō reira tēnei kupu a Ihowā, a te Atua o ngā mano, a te Ariki:

"I ngā waharoa katoa ko te tangi;

ko tā rātou kupu i ngā huarahi katoa, ‘Auē! auē!’

Ka karangatia te kaingaki whenua ki te tangi,

me te hunga mātau ki te uhunga, hei auē;

17 ā, he auē i ngā māra wāina katoa,

ka tika atu hoki ahau i waenganui i a koe,"

e ai tā Ihowā.

He Rā Pōuri te Rā o Ihowā

18 Auē te mate mō koutou e hiahia nei ki te rā o Ihowā!

Hei aha mā koutou te rā o Ihowā?

He pōuri hoki, ehara i te mārama;

19 ka pērā me te tangata i rere atu i te aroaro o te raiona,

ā, ka tūtaki te pea ki a ia;

i haere rānei ki roto ki te whare,

ā, okioki atu ana tōna ringa ki te pakitara,

nā, ngaua iho ia e te nākahi.

20 He teka ianei tērā e pōuri te rā o Ihowā, e kore e mārama?

Tērā e pōuri kerekere, kāhore hoki he mārama i roto?

21 "E kino ana ahau, e whakarihariha ana ki ā koutou hākari,

ā, e kore ahau e āhuareka ki ā koutou huihui nunui.

22 Āe rā, ahakoa whakaeke noa koutou i ngā tahunga tinana,

i ā koutou whakahere totokore ki ahau,

e kore e manakohia e ahau.

E kore anō e tirohia e ahau ngā whakahere mō te pai,

arā ā koutou mea mōmona.

23 Maua atu kia matara i ahau te ngangau o āu waiata;

e kore hoki ahau e whakarongo ki te rangi o āu hātere.

24 Engari, kia huri mai te whakawā ānō he wai,

te tika ānō he awa nui.

25 "I kawea mai koia e koutou ki ahau he patunga tapu,

he whakahere totokore, e te whare o Īharaira, i te koraha, i ngā tau e whā tekau?

26 Āe rā, kua maua e koutou a Hikutu,

tō koutou kīngi, a Kiunu hoki, ā koutou whakapakoko,

te whetū o tō koutou atua,

i hangā nei e koutou mā koutou.

27 Nā, ka whakaraua koutou e ahau ki kō atu i Ramahiku,"

e ai tā Ihowā nōna nei te ingoa, Ko te Atua o ngā Mano.

1 Hear ye this word which I take up for a lamentation over you, O house of Israel. 2 The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is cast down upon her land; there is none to raise her up. 3 For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: The city that went forth a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went forth a hundred shall have ten left, to the house of Israel.

4 For thus saith Jehovah unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live; 5 but seek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to nought. 6 Seek Jehovah, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and it devour, and there be none to quench it in Beth-el. 7 Ye who turn justice to wormwood, and cast down righteousness to the earth, 8 seek him that maketh the Pleiades and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night; that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth (Jehovah is his name); 9 that bringeth sudden destruction upon the strong, so that destruction cometh upon the fortress.

10 They hate him that reproveth in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly. 11 Forasmuch therefore as ye trample upon the poor, and take exactions from him of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink the wine thereof. 12 For I know how manifold are your transgressions, and how mighty are your sins—ye that afflict the just, that take a bribe, and that turn aside the needy in the gate from their right. 13 Therefore he that is prudent shall keep silence in such a time; for it is an evil time.

14 Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live; and so Jehovah, the God of hosts, will be with you, as ye say. 15 Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish justice in the gate: it may be that Jehovah, the God of hosts, will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

16 Therefore thus saith Jehovah, the God of hosts, the Lord: Wailing shall be in all the broad ways; and they shall say in all the streets, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful in lamentation to wailing. 17 And in all vineyards shall be wailing; for I will pass through the midst of thee, saith Jehovah.

18 Woe unto you that desire the day of Jehovah! Wherefore would ye have the day of Jehovah? It is darkness, and not light. 19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. 20 Shall not the day of Jehovah be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

21 I hate, I despise your feasts, and I will take no delight in your solemn assemblies. 22 Yea, though ye offer me your burnt-offerings and meal-offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace-offerings of your fat beasts. 23 Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols. 24 But let justice roll down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

25 Did ye bring unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel? 26 Yea, ye have borne the tabernacle of your king and the shrine of your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves. 27 Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith Jehovah, whose name is the God of hosts.
