1 Vi emergir do mar uma besta que tinha dez chifres e sete cabeças, e, sobre os chifres, dez diademas, e, sobre as cabeças, nomes de blasfêmia. 2 A besta que vi era semelhante a leopardo, com pés como de urso e boca como de leão. E o dragão deu à besta o seu poder, o seu trono e grande autoridade. 3 Uma das cabeças da besta parecia ter sido golpeada de morte, mas essa ferida mortal foi curada. E toda a terra se maravilhou, seguindo a besta; 4 e adoraram o dragão porque deu a sua autoridade à besta. Também adoraram a besta, dizendo:

— Quem é semelhante à besta? Quem pode lutar contra ela?

5 Foi-lhe dada uma boca que proferia arrogâncias e blasfêmias e foi-lhe dada autoridade para agir durante quarenta e dois meses. 6 A besta abriu a boca em blasfêmias contra Deus, para lhe difamar o nome e difamar o tabernáculo, a saber, os que habitam no céu. 7 Foi-lhe permitido, também, que lutasse contra os santos e os vencesse. Foi-lhe dada, ainda, autoridade sobre cada tribo, povo, língua e nação. 8 E ela será adorada por todos os que habitam sobre a terra, aqueles que, desde a fundação do mundo, não tiveram os seus nomes escritos no Livro da Vida do Cordeiro que foi morto.

9 Se alguém tem ouvidos, ouça.

10 "Se alguém tiver de ir

para o cativeiro,

para o cativeiro irá.

Se alguém tiver de ser morto

pela espada,

pela espada morto será."

Aqui está a perseverança e a fidelidade dos santos.

11 Vi ainda outra besta emergir da terra. Tinha dois chifres, parecendo cordeiro, mas falava como dragão. 12 Ela exerce toda a autoridade da primeira besta na sua presença e faz com que a terra e os seus habitantes adorem a primeira besta, cuja ferida mortal havia sido curada. 13 Também opera grandes sinais, de maneira que até faz descer fogo do céu sobre a terra, diante de todas as pessoas. 14 Seduz aqueles que habitam sobre a terra por causa dos sinais que lhe foi permitido realizar diante da besta, dizendo aos que habitam sobre a terra que façam uma imagem à besta, àquela que foi ferida à espada e sobreviveu. 15 E lhe foi concedido poder para dar vida à imagem da besta, para que também a imagem da besta falasse e fizesse morrer todos os que não adorassem a imagem da besta. 16 A todos, os pequenos e os grandes, os ricos e os pobres, os livres e os escravos, faz com que lhes seja dada certa marca na mão direita ou na testa, 17 para que ninguém possa comprar ou vender, senão aquele que tem a marca, o nome da besta ou o número do seu nome.

18 Aqui está a sabedoria. Aquele que tem entendimento calcule o número da besta, pois é número de ser humano. E esse número é seiscentos e sessenta e seis.

1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea having ten horns, and seven heads, and ten diadems upon its horns, and upon its heads names of blasphemy.2 And the beast that I saw was similar to a leopard. And its feet were like a bear, and its mouth like the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave to it his power, and his throne, and great authority.3 And one of its heads was as in death, having been killed. And its deadly wound was healed. And the whole earth marveled behind the beast.4 And they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast. And they worshiped the beast, saying, Who is like the beast, and who is able to war against it?5 And a mouth was given to it speaking great things and blasphemy. And authority was given it to make war forty-two months.6 And it opened its mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name and his tabernacle, those who dwell in heaven.7 And it was given it to make war with the sanctified, and to overcome them. And authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to it.8 And all who dwell upon the earth will worship it, whose name has not been written in the book of life of the Lamb who was killed from the foundation of the world.9 If any man has an ear, let him hear.10 If any man keeps in captivity, he goes. If any man kills with a sword, he must be killed with a sword. Here is the perseverance and the faith of the sanctified.11 And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and it had two horns similar to a lamb, and it spoke like a dragon.12 And it exercises all the authority of the first beast before it. And it made the earth and those who dwell in it, so that they would worship the first beast, whose mortal wound was healed.13 And it does great signs, so that even fire would come down out of the sky upon the earth in the sight of men.14 And it leads my kind astray (those dwelling on the earth) because of the signs that were given it to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast that had the sword-wound and live15 And it was given it, to give a spirit to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would both speak, and would make as many as would not ever worship the image of the beast be killed.16 And it makes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the freemen and the bondmen, that they would give them marks on their right hand, or on their foreheads.17 And so that not any man can buy or sell unless having the mark--the name of the beast or the number of its name.18 Here is wisdom: He who has understanding, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is a number of a man. And its number is 666
