1 Estava próxima a Festa dos Pães sem Fermento, chamada Páscoa. 2 Os principais sacerdotes e os escribas procuravam uma forma de matar Jesus; porque temiam o povo.

3 Ora, Satanás entrou em Judas, chamado Iscariotes, que era um dos doze. 4 Judas foi entender-se com os principais sacerdotes e os capitães sobre como lhes entregaria Jesus. 5 Eles se alegraram e combinaram em lhe dar dinheiro. 6 Judas concordou e buscava uma boa ocasião para lhes entregar Jesus, longe da multidão.

7 Chegou o dia da Festa dos Pães sem Fermento, em que era necessário fazer o sacrifício do cordeiro pascal. 8 Então Jesus enviou Pedro e João, dizendo:

— Vão e preparem a Páscoa para que a comamos.

9 Eles lhe perguntaram:

— Onde o senhor quer que a preparemos?

10 Jesus lhes explicou:

— Ao entrar na cidade, vocês encontrarão um homem com um cântaro de água; sigam esse homem até a casa em que ele entrar 11 e digam ao dono da casa: "O Mestre pergunta: ‘Onde fica o aposento no qual comerei a Páscoa com os meus discípulos?’" 12 Ele lhes mostrará um espaçoso cenáculo mobiliado; ali façam os preparativos.

13 E, indo, acharam tudo como Jesus lhes tinha dito e prepararam a Páscoa.

14 Chegada a hora, Jesus se pôs à mesa, e os apóstolos estavam com ele. 15 Então Jesus lhes disse:

— Tenho desejado ansiosamente comer esta Páscoa com vocês, antes do meu sofrimento. 16 Pois eu lhes digo que nunca mais a comerei, até que ela se cumpra no Reino de Deus.

17 E, pegando um cálice, depois de ter dado graças, disse:

— Peguem e repartam entre vocês. 18 Pois eu digo a vocês que, de agora em diante, não mais beberei do fruto da videira, até que venha o Reino de Deus.

19 E, pegando um pão, tendo dado graças, o partiu e lhes deu, dizendo:

— Isto é o meu corpo, que é dado por vocês; façam isto em memória de mim.

20 Do mesmo modo, depois da ceia, pegou o cálice, dizendo:

— Este cálice é a nova aliança no meu sangue derramado por vocês.

21 — Mas eis que a mão do traidor está comigo à mesa. 22 Pois o Filho do Homem vai segundo o que está determinado, mas ai daquele por quem ele está sendo traído!

23 Então começaram a perguntar entre si qual deles seria o que estava para fazer isso.

24 Houve também entre eles uma discussão sobre qual deles parecia ser o maior. 25 Mas Jesus lhes disse:

— Os reis dos povos dominam sobre eles, e os que exercem autoridade são chamados de benfeitores. 26 Mas vocês não são assim; pelo contrário, o maior entre vocês seja como o menor; e aquele que dirige seja como o que serve. 27 Pois qual é maior: aquele que está à mesa ou aquele que serve? Não é verdade que é aquele que está à mesa? Pois, no meio de vocês, eu sou como quem serve. 28 Vocês são os que têm permanecido comigo nas minhas tentações. 29 E eu confio a vocês um reino, assim como o meu Pai confiou a mim, 30 para que comam e bebam à minha mesa no meu Reino; e vocês se assentarão em tronos para julgar as doze tribos de Israel.

31 — Simão, Simão, eis que Satanás pediu para peneirar vocês como trigo! 32 Eu, porém, orei por você, para que a sua fé não desfaleça. E você, quando voltar para mim, fortaleça os seus irmãos.

33 Porém Pedro respondeu:

— Estou pronto para ir com o Senhor, tanto para a prisão como para a morte.

34 Mas Jesus lhe disse:

— Eu lhe digo, Pedro, que hoje, antes que o galo cante, você negará três vezes que me conhece.

35 A seguir, Jesus perguntou aos discípulos:

— Quando eu os enviei sem bolsa, sem sacola e sem sandálias, por acaso faltou-lhes alguma coisa?

Eles responderam:

— Não faltou nada!

36 Então Jesus lhes disse:

— Agora, porém, quem tem bolsa, pegue-a, e faça o mesmo com a sacola; e o que não tem espada, venda a sua capa e compre uma. 37 Pois eu lhes digo que é preciso que se cumpra em mim o que está escrito: "Ele foi contado com os malfeitores." Pois o que a mim se refere está sendo cumprido.

38 Então lhe disseram:

— Senhor, aqui estão duas espadas!

Jesus lhes respondeu:

— Basta!

39 E, saindo, Jesus foi, como de costume, para o monte das Oliveiras; e os discípulos o acompanharam. 40 Chegando ao lugar escolhido, Jesus lhes disse:

— Orem, para que vocês não caiam em tentação.

41 Ele, por sua vez, se afastou um pouco, e, de joelhos, orava, 42 dizendo:

— Pai, se queres, afasta de mim este cálice! Contudo, não se faça a minha vontade, e sim a tua.

43 Então lhe apareceu um anjo do céu que o confortava. 44 E, estando em agonia, orava mais intensamente. E aconteceu que o suor dele se tornou como gotas de sangue caindo sobre a terra. 45 Levantando-se da oração, Jesus foi até onde os discípulos estavam, e os encontrou dormindo de tristeza. 46 E disse:

— Por que vocês estão dormindo? Levantem-se e orem, para que não caiam em tentação.

47 Enquanto Jesus ainda falava, eis que chegou uma multidão. E um dos doze, que se chamava Judas, vinha à frente deles e se aproximou de Jesus para o beijar. 48 Jesus, porém, lhe disse:

— Judas, com um beijo você trai o Filho do Homem?

49 Os que estavam ao redor de Jesus, vendo o que estava por acontecer, perguntaram:

— Senhor, devemos atacar com as espadas?

50 Um deles golpeou o servo do sumo sacerdote e cortou-lhe a orelha direita. 51 Mas Jesus interveio, dizendo:

— Deixem! Basta!

E, tocando na orelha do homem, o curou. 52 Então Jesus disse aos principais sacerdotes, capitães do templo e anciãos que vieram prendê-lo:

— Vocês vieram com espadas e porretes como para prender um salteador? 53 Todos os dias, estando eu com vocês no templo, vocês não tentaram me prender. Esta, porém, é a hora de vocês e a hora do poder das trevas.

54 Então, prendendo Jesus, levaram-no e o introduziram na casa do sumo sacerdote. Pedro seguia de longe. 55 Quando acenderam um fogo no meio do pátio e se assentaram juntos, Pedro tomou lugar entre eles. 56 Uma empregada, vendo-o sentado perto do fogo, fixou os olhos nele e disse:

— Este também estava com ele.

57 Mas Pedro negou, dizendo:

— Mulher, não o conheço.

58 Pouco depois, outro homem, ao ver Pedro, disse:

— Você também é um deles.

Mas Pedro disse:

— Homem, eu não sou um deles.

59 E, tendo passado cerca de uma hora, outro afirmou, dizendo:

— Com certeza este também estava com ele, porque também é galileu.

60 Mas Pedro insistiu:

— Homem, não sei do que você está falando.

E logo, enquanto Pedro ainda falava, o galo cantou. 61 Então, o Senhor voltou-se e fixou os olhos em Pedro. E Pedro se lembrou da palavra do Senhor, como lhe tinha dito: "Hoje, antes que o galo cante, você me negará três vezes." 62 E Pedro, saindo dali, chorou amargamente.

63 Os homens que detinham Jesus zombavam dele, davam-lhe pancadas e, 64 colocando uma venda sobre os olhos dele, diziam:

— Profetize! Quem foi que bateu em você?

65 E muitas outras coisas diziam contra ele, blasfemando.

66 Logo que amanheceu, reuniu-se a assembleia dos anciãos do povo, tanto os principais sacerdotes como os escribas, e o conduziram ao Sinédrio, onde lhe disseram:

67 — Se você é o Cristo, diga-nos.

Então Jesus lhes respondeu:

— Se disser, vocês não vão acreditar. 68 E, se eu perguntar, vocês não me darão resposta. 69 Desde agora, o Filho do Homem estará sentado à direita do Deus Todo-Poderoso.

70 Todos perguntaram:

— Então você é o Filho de Deus?

Jesus respondeu:

— Vocês dizem que eu sou.

71 Eles disseram:

— Que necessidade ainda temos de testemunho? Porque nós mesmos ouvimos o que ele falou.

1 Now the feast of unleavened bread was coming near, which is called Passover.2 And the chief priests and the scholars sought how they might kill him, for they feared the people.3 And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.4 And having departed, he conversed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him to them.5 And they were glad, and agreed together to give him silver.6 And he consented and sought opportunity to betray him to them apart from the multitude.7 And the day of unleavened bread came during which it was necessary to kill the Passover.8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, After departing, prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.9 And they said to him, Where do thou want that we should prepare?10 And he said to them, Behold, having entered into the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water. Follow him into the house where he enters.11 And ye shall say to the house-ruler, The teacher says to thee, Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?12 And he will show you a large upper room furnished. Prepare there.13 And having gone, they found just as he said to them, and they prepared the Passover.14 And when the hour came, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.15 And he said to them, With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before my suffering.16 For I say to you, that I will eat of it no more, no, not till when it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.17 And having taken a cup, having expressed thanks, he said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves.18 For I say to you, that I will, no, not drink from the fruit of the grapevine till when the kingdom of God comes.19 And after taking bread, having expressed thanks, he broke in pieces, and gave to them, saying, This is my body that is given for you. Do ye this in my memory.20 Likewise also the cup after dining, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood being shed for you.21 Nevertheless behold, the hand of the man who betrays me is with me on the table.22 And the Son of man indeed goes according to that which has been determined, nevertheless woe to that man through whom he is betrayed!23 And they began to question among themselves who then of them would be going do this thing.24 And also a dispute develop among them, which of them is considered to be greater.25 And he said to them, The kings of the Gentiles have dominion over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called Benefactors.26 But ye are not this way. Rather, the greater among you, shall become as the newer, and he who leads, as he who serves.27 For who ranks higher, he who sits dining, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits dining? But I am in the midst of you as he who serves.28 But ye are those who have continued with me in my trials.29 And I appoint to you, just as my Father appointed to me a kingdom,30 that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you to sift you as wheat,32 but I prayed for thee, so that thy faith may not fail. And thou, when thou have returned, strengthen thy brothers.33 And he said to him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee both to prison and to death.34 And he said, I say to thee, Peter, a cock will, no, not sound today, before thou will thrice deny that thou know me.35 And he said to them, When I sent you without bag and pouch and shoes, did ye lack anything? And they said, Nothing.36 Then he said to them, But now, he who has a bag, let him take it, and likewise a pouch. And he who has no sword, let him sell his cloak and buy.37 For I say to you, that this that is written is still necessary to be completed in me, And he was counted with lawless men, for these things about me also have fulfillment.38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said to them, It is enough.39 And having come out, he proceeded according to his habit to the mount of Olives, and his disciples also followed him.40 And when he came at the place, he said to them, Pray ye not to enter into temptation.41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw. And he knelt down and prayed,42 saying, Father, if thou want, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless not my will, but thine be done.43 And an agent from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him.44 And having become in agony he prayed more intensely, and his sweat became like drops of blood falling down to the ground.45 And after rising up from his prayer, having come to the disciples, he found them sleeping from sorrow.46 And said to them, Why sleep ye? Having risen, pray that ye may not enter into temptation.47 While he yet spoke, behold, a multitude, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them. And he came near to Jesus to kiss him.48 But Jesus said to him, Judas, thou betray the Son of man with a kiss?49 And when those who were around him saw what would be, they said, Lord, shall we strike with the sword?50 And a certain one of them struck the bondman of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.51 But having answered, Jesus said, Allow ye as far as this. And having touched his ear, he healed him.52 And Jesus said to the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and elders, who came to him, Have ye come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs?53 When I was with you daily in the temple, ye did not stretch forth hands against me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.54 And having seized him, they led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. But Peter followed from afar.55 And having kindled a fire in the midst of the court, and having sat down together, Peter sat in the midst of them.56 But a certain servant girl having seen him sitting near the light, and having looked intently upon him, she said, This man was also with him.57 But he denied him, saying, Woman, I do not know him.58 And after a little while, another man having see him, said, Thou also are from them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.59 And about one hour having passed, some other man insisted, saying, In truth this man was also with him, for he is also a Galilean.60 And Peter said, Man, I do not know what thou are saying. And immediately, while he still spoke, a cock sounded.61 And having turned, the Lord looked on Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he said to him, Before a cock sounds thou will deny me thrice.62 And having gone outside, Peter wept bitterly.63 And the men who held Jesus mocked him, while striking him.64 And having covered him, they struck his face, and demanded him, saying, Prophesy! Who is he who struck thee?65 And they spoke many other things against him, railing against him.66 And when it became day, the eldership of the people, the chief priests, and the scholars, came together, and led him into their council, saying,67 If thou are the Christ, tell us. And he said to them, If I tell you, ye will not believe,68 and if I also ask, ye will, no, not answer nor release.69 From henceforth the Son of man will be sitting at the right hand of the power of God.70 And they all said, Therefore thou are the Son of God? And he said to them, Ye say that I am.71 And they said, What further need have we of testimony? For we have heard from his mouth.
