1 Escutem agora

o que diz o Senhor:

"Levante-se, defenda a sua causa

diante dos montes,

e que as colinas ouçam a sua voz.

2 Ó montes, escutem

a controvérsia do Senhor,

e vocês, duráveis fundamentos

da terra,

prestem atenção, porque o Senhor

tem uma controvérsia

com o seu povo

e entrará em juízo com Israel."

3 "Meu povo,

o que foi que eu lhe fiz?

E como foi que eu

o levei a ficar cansado?

Responda!

4 Pois eu o tirei da terra do Egito

e o resgatei da casa da servidão,

e enviei adiante de você

Moisés, Arão e Miriã.

5 Meu povo,

lembre-se do que Balaque,

rei de Moabe, havia planejado

e do que Balaão, filho de Beor,

lhe respondeu.

Lembre-se também

do que aconteceu

desde Sitim até Gilgal,

para que você conheça

os atos de justiça do Senhor."

6 Com que me apresentarei

ao Senhor

e me inclinarei diante

do Deus excelso?

Virei diante dele com holocaustos,

com bezerros de um ano?

7 Será que o Senhor se agrada

com milhares de carneiros,

com dez mil ribeiros de azeite?

Darei o meu primogênito

pela minha transgressão,

o fruto do meu corpo,

pelo pecado da minha alma?

8 Ele já mostrou a você o que é bom;

e o que o Senhor pede de você?

Que pratique a justiça,

ame a misericórdia

e ande humildemente

com o seu Deus.

9 A voz do Senhor

se dirige à cidade,

e é verdadeira sabedoria

temer o seu nome.

"Escutem, ó tribo

e todos os moradores!

10 Ainda se encontram,

na casa dos ímpios,

os tesouros da impiedade

e a medida falsa que eu detesto?

11 Poderei eu inocentar

balanças desonestas

e uma bolsa

com pesos adulterados?

12 Porque os ricos da cidade

estão cheios de violência;

os seus habitantes falam mentiras

e a língua deles é enganosa.

13 Assim, também

eu passarei a feri-los

e os destruirei

por causa dos seus pecados.

14 Vocês comerão,

mas não ficarão satisfeitos;

a fome continuará

nas suas entranhas.

Tentarão pôr os seus bens a salvo,

mas não conseguirão preservá-los;

e aquilo que preservarem,

eu entregarei à espada.

15 Vocês irão semear,

mas não colherão nada;

vocês esmagarão as azeitonas,

mas não se ungirão com o azeite;

pisarão as uvas,

mas não beberão o vinho.

16 Vocês observaram

os estatutos de Onri

e todas as obras da casa de Acabe

e andaram nos conselhos deles.

Por isso, farei de Jerusalém

um lugar desolado,

e dos seus moradores

um objeto de vaias.

E vocês terão de suportar

a zombaria dos povos."

1 Hear ye now what LORD says: Arise, contend thou before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.2 Hear, O ye mountains, LORD's controversy, and ye enduring foundations of the earth, for LORD has a controversy with his people, and he will contend with Israel.3 O my people, what have I done to thee? And in what have I wearied thee? Testify against me.4 For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of bondage. And I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.5 O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab devised, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him. [Remember] from Shittim to Gilgal, that ye may know the righteous acts of LORD.6 Why shall I come before LORD, and bow myself before the high God? Shall I come before him with burnt-offerings, with calves a year old?7 Will LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, [or] with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?8 He has shown thee, O man, what is good. And what does LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with thy God?9 The voice of LORD cries to the city, and [the man of] wisdom will see thy name. Hear ye the rod, and who has appointed it.10 Are there yet treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and a scant measure that is abominable?11 Shall I be pure with wicked balances, and with a bag of deceitful weights?12 For the rich men of it are full of violence, and the inhabitants of it have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.13 Therefore I also have smitten thee with a grievous wound, I have made thee desolate because of thy sins.14 Thou shall eat, but not be satisfied, and thy humiliation shall be in the midst of thee. And thou shall put away, but shall not save, and that which thou save I will give up to the sword.15 Thou shall sow, but shall not reap, thou shall tread the olives, but shall not anoint thee with oil, and the vintage, but shall not drink the wine.16 For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels, that I may make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing. And ye shall bear the reproach of my people.
