1 Eliseu falou àquela mulher cujo filho ele havia restaurado à vida, dizendo:

— Levante-se e saia daqui com os membros de sua casa e fique peregrinando onde você puder peregrinar, porque o Senhor determinou que haverá uma fome neste país, a qual irá durar sete anos.

2 A mulher se levantou e fez segundo a palavra do homem de Deus: saiu com os de sua casa e peregrinou durante sete anos na terra dos filisteus.

3 Ao final dos sete anos, a mulher voltou da terra dos filisteus e foi falar com o rei, para reclamar a sua casa e as suas terras. 4 O rei estava falando com Geazi, o servo do homem de Deus, dizendo:

— Conte-me todas as grandes obras que Eliseu tem feito.

5 Ele estava contando ao rei como Eliseu havia restaurado à vida um morto, quando a mulher cujo filho ele havia restaurado à vida chegou para reclamar a sua casa e as suas terras. Então Geazi disse:

— Ó rei, meu senhor, esta é a mulher, e este é o filho dela, a quem Eliseu restaurou à vida.

6 O rei interrogou a mulher, e ela lhe contou tudo. Então o rei colocou um oficial à disposição da mulher e lhe deu a seguinte ordem:

— Faça com que lhe seja restituído tudo o que era dela, inclusive todas as rendas do campo desde o dia em que deixou a terra até agora.

7 Eliseu foi a Damasco. Ben-Hadade, o rei da Síria, estava doente, e lhe anunciaram, dizendo:

— O homem de Deus chegou aqui.

8 Então o rei disse a Hazael:

— Pegue um presente e vá encontrar-se com o homem de Deus. Por meio dele, pergunte ao Senhor Deus se vou sarar desta doença.

9 Assim, Hazael foi encontrar-se com Eliseu, levando consigo um presente, a saber, quarenta camelos carregados de tudo o que era bom de Damasco. Ele chegou, apresentou-se diante dele e disse:

— O seu filho Ben-Hadade, rei da Síria, me enviou para perguntar se ele vai sarar da sua doença.

10 Eliseu lhe respondeu:

— Vá e diga ao rei que ele certamente vai sarar. Porém o Senhor me mostrou que ele certamente morrerá.

11 Eliseu olhou para Hazael e tanto lhe fitou os olhos, que este ficou envergonhado. E o homem de Deus chorou. 12 Então Hazael perguntou:

— Por que meu senhor está chorando?

Ele respondeu:

— Porque sei o mal que você vai fazer aos filhos de Israel. Você vai pôr fogo nas suas fortalezas, vai matar à espada os seus jovens, esmagar os seus pequeninos e rasgar o ventre das mulheres grávidas.

13 Hazael perguntou:

— Mas o que é este seu servo, este cão, para fazer tão grandes coisas?

Eliseu disse:

— O Senhor me mostrou que você será o rei da Síria.

14 Então Hazael deixou Eliseu e voltou para junto de seu senhor, o rei, que lhe perguntou:

— O que foi que Eliseu disse a você?

Hazael respondeu:

— Ele me disse que o senhor certamente vai sarar.

15 No dia seguinte, Hazael pegou um cobertor, molhou-o em água e o estendeu sobre o rosto do rei até que morreu; e Hazael reinou em seu lugar.

16 No quinto ano do reinado de Jorão, filho de Acabe, rei de Israel, quando Josafá ainda reinava em Judá, Jeorão, filho de Josafá, rei de Judá, começou a reinar. 17 Ele tinha trinta e dois anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou oito anos em Jerusalém. 18 Andou nos caminhos dos reis de Israel, como também fizeram os da casa de Acabe, porque era casado com uma filha dele. E Jeorão fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor. 19 Porém o Senhor não quis destruir Judá por amor a Davi, seu servo, segundo a promessa que lhe havia feito de dar uma lâmpada a ele e aos seus filhos para sempre.

20 Nos dias de Jeorão, os edomitas se revoltaram contra o poder de Judá e constituíram o seu próprio rei. 21 Por isso, Jeorão foi a Zair com todos os seus carros de guerra. Ele se levantou de noite e atacou os edomitas que o cercavam e os capitães dos carros de guerra; mas o povo de Jeorão fugiu para as suas tendas. 22 Assim, Edom se rebelou para se livrar do poder de Judá até o dia de hoje. Na mesma época a cidade de Libna também se rebelou.

23 Quanto aos demais atos de Jeorão e a tudo o que ele fez, não está tudo escrito no Livro da História dos Reis de Judá? 24 Jeorão morreu e foi sepultado nos túmulos de seus pais, na Cidade de Davi. E Acazias, filho de Jeorão, reinou em seu lugar.

25 No décimo segundo ano do reinado de Jorão, filho de Acabe, rei de Israel, Acazias, filho de Jeorão, rei de Judá, começou a reinar. 26 Acazias tinha vinte e dois anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou um ano em Jerusalém. A mãe dele, que era filha de Onri, rei de Israel, se chamava Atalia.

27 Acazias andou no caminho da casa de Acabe e fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor, como os da casa de Acabe, porque era casado com uma filha dele. 28 Acazias foi com Jorão, filho de Acabe, a Ramote-Gileade, para guerrear contra Hazael, rei da Síria; e os sírios feriram Jorão. 29 Então o rei Jorão voltou para Jezreel, para curar-se das feridas que os sírios lhe fizeram em Ramá, quando lutou contra Hazael, rei da Síria. E Acazias, filho de Jeorão, rei de Judá, foi a Jezreel para visitar Jorão, filho de Acabe, que estava doente.

1 Now Elisha had spoken unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thy household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for Jehovah hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years. 2 And the woman arose, and did according to the word of the man of God; and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years. 3 And it came to pass at the seven years’ end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land. 4 Now the king was talking with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done. 5 And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored to life him that was dead, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life. 6 And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.

7 And Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come hither. 8 And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in thy hand, and go, meet the man of God, and inquire of Jehovah by him, saying, Shall I recover of this sickness? 9 So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Benhadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this sickness? 10 And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, Thou shalt surely recover; howbeit Jehovah hath showed me that he shall surely die. 11 And he settled his countenance stedfastly upon him, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept. 12 And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strongholds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash in pieces their little ones, and rip up their women with child. 13 And Hazael said, But what is thy servant, who is but a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, Jehovah hath showed me that thou shalt be king over Syria. 14 Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou wouldest surely recover. 15 And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took the coverlet, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead.

16 And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign. 17 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife; and he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah. 19 Howbeit Jehovah would not destroy Judah, for David his servant’s sake, as he promised him to give unto him a lamp for his children alway.

20 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves. 21 Then Joram passed over to Zair, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites that compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots; and the people fled to their tents. 22 So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then did Libnah revolt at the same time. 23 And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 24 And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.

25 In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign. 26 Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri king of Israel. 27 And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, as did the house of Ahab; for he was the son-in-law of the house of Ahab. 28 And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-gilead: and the Syrians wounded Joram. 29 And king Joram returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
