1 Portanto, se existe alguma exortação em Cristo, alguma consolação de amor, alguma comunhão do Espírito, se há profundo afeto e sentimento de compaixão, 2 então completem a minha alegria, tendo o mesmo modo de pensar, tendo o mesmo amor e sendo unidos de alma e mente. 3 Não façam nada por interesse pessoal ou vaidade, mas por humildade, cada um considerando os outros superiores a si mesmo, 4 não tendo em vista somente os seus próprios interesses, mas também os dos outros.

5 Tenham entre vocês o mesmo modo de pensar de Cristo Jesus, 6 que, mesmo existindo na forma de Deus, não considerou o ser igual a Deus algo que deveria ser retido a qualquer custo. 7 Pelo contrário, ele se esvaziou, assumindo a forma de servo, tornando-se semelhante aos seres humanos. E, reconhecido em figura humana, 8 ele se humilhou, tornando-se obediente até a morte, e morte de cruz. 9 Por isso também Deus o exaltou sobremaneira e lhe deu o nome que está acima de todo nome, 10 para que ao nome de Jesus se dobre todo joelho, nos céus, na terra e debaixo da terra, 11 e toda língua confesse que Jesus Cristo é Senhor, para glória de Deus Pai.

12 Assim, meus amados, como vocês sempre obedeceram, não só na minha presença, porém, muito mais agora, na minha ausência, desenvolvam a sua salvação com temor e tremor, 13 porque Deus é quem efetua em vocês tanto o querer como o realizar, segundo a sua boa vontade. 14 Façam tudo sem murmurações nem discussões, 15 para que sejam irrepreensíveis e puros, filhos de Deus inculpáveis no meio de uma geração pervertida e corrupta, na qual vocês brilham como luzeiros no mundo, 16 preservando a palavra da vida. Assim, no Dia de Cristo, poderei me gloriar de que não corri em vão, nem me esforcei inutilmente. 17 Entretanto, mesmo que eu seja oferecido como libação sobre o sacrifício e serviço da fé que vocês têm, fico contente e me alegro com todos vocês. 18 Assim, também vocês, pela mesma razão, fiquem contentes e se alegrem comigo.

19 Espero no Senhor Jesus enviar-lhes Timóteo o mais breve possível, a fim de que eu me sinta animado também ao receber notícias de vocês. 20 Porque não tenho ninguém com esse mesmo sentimento e que se preocupe tão sinceramente por vocês. 21 Todos os outros buscam os seus próprios interesses e não os de Jesus Cristo. 22 Quanto a Timóteo, vocês conhecem o seu caráter provado, pois serviu ao evangelho, junto comigo, como um filho trabalha ao lado do pai. 23 Portanto, este é quem espero enviar, tão logo eu saiba como vai ficar a minha situação. 24 Mas confio no Senhor que também eu mesmo em breve irei até aí.

25 No entanto, julguei necessário enviar-lhes Epafrodito, meu irmão, cooperador e companheiro de lutas, e, da parte de vocês, mensageiro e auxiliar nas minhas necessidades. 26 Ele tinha muita saudade de todos vocês e estava angustiado porque vocês ficaram sabendo que ele adoeceu. 27 De fato, adoeceu e estava à beira da morte. Mas Deus se compadeceu dele — e não somente dele, mas também de mim —, para que eu não tivesse tristeza sobre tristeza. 28 Por isso, tanto mais me apresso em mandá-lo, para que, vendo-o novamente, vocês fiquem alegres e eu tenha menos tristeza. 29 Recebam-no, pois, no Senhor, com toda a alegria, e honrem sempre os que são como ele. 30 Porque, por causa da obra de Cristo, ele quase morreu, arriscando a própria vida, para suprir a ajuda que vocês não podiam me dar pessoalmente.

1 If there is therefore any exhortation in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any tender mercies and compassions, 2 make full my joy, that ye be of the same mind, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind; 3 doing nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself; 4 not looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others. 5 Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 who, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men; 8 and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name; 10 that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

12 So then, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who worketh in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure. 14 Do all things without murmurings and questionings: 15 that ye may become blameless and harmless, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom ye are seen as lights in the world, 16 holding forth the word of life; that I may have whereof to glory in the day of Christ, that I did not run in vain neither labor in vain. 17 Yea, and if I am offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all: 18 and in the same manner do ye also joy, and rejoice with me.

19 But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state. 20 For I have no man likeminded, who will care truly for your state. 21 For they all seek their own, not the things of Jesus Christ. 22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a child serveth a father, so he served with me in furtherance of the gospel. 23 Him therefore I hope to send forthwith, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me: 24 but I trust in the Lord that I myself also shall come shortly. 25 But I counted it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow-worker and fellow-soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need; 26 since he longed after you all, and was sore troubled, because ye had heard that he was sick: 27 for indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, that I might not have sorrow upon sorrow. 28 I have sent him therefore the more diligently, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful. 29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all joy; and hold such in honor: 30 because for the work of Christ he came nigh unto death, hazarding his life to supply that which was lacking in your service toward me.
