1 Por aquele tempo, num sábado, Jesus passou pelas searas. Estando os seus discípulos com fome, começaram a colher espigas e a comer. 2 Os fariseus, vendo isso, disseram a Jesus:

— Olhe! Os seus discípulos estão fazendo o que não é lícito fazer num sábado.

3 Mas Jesus lhes disse:

— Vocês não leram o que Davi fez quando ele e os seus companheiros tiveram fome? 4 Como entrou na Casa de Deus, e comeram os pães da proposição, os quais não era lícito comer, nem a ele nem aos que estavam com ele, mas exclusivamente aos sacerdotes? 5 Ou vocês não leram na Lei que, aos sábados, os sacerdotes no templo profanam o sábado e ficam sem culpa? 6 Pois eu lhes digo que aqui está quem é maior do que o templo. 7 Mas, se vocês soubessem o que significa: "Quero misericórdia, e não sacrifício", não teriam condenado inocentes. 8 Porque o Filho do Homem é senhor do sábado.

9 Tendo Jesus saído dali, entrou na sinagoga deles. 10 Achava-se ali um homem que tinha uma das mãos ressequida. Então, a fim de o acusar, perguntaram a Jesus:

— É lícito curar no sábado?

11 Ao que lhes respondeu:

— Quem de vocês será o homem que, tendo uma ovelha, e, num sábado, esta cair numa cova, não fará todo o esforço para tirá-la dali? 12 Ora, quanto mais vale um homem do que uma ovelha! Logo, é lícito nos sábados fazer o bem.

13 Então Jesus disse ao homem:

— Estenda a mão.

O homem estendeu a mão, e ela foi restaurada e ficou sã como a outra. 14 Mas os fariseus, saindo dali, conspiravam contra ele, procurando ver como o matariam.

15 Mas Jesus, sabendo disto, afastou-se dali. Muitos o seguiram, e a todos ele curou, 16 advertindo-lhes, porém, que não o expusessem à publicidade. 17 Isso aconteceu para se cumprir o que foi dito por meio do profeta Isaías:

18 "Eis aqui o meu servo,

que escolhi,

o meu amado, em quem

a minha alma se agrada.

Farei repousar sobre ele

o meu Espírito,

e ele anunciará juízo aos gentios.

19 Não entrará em discussões,

nem gritará,

nem fará ouvir nas praças

a sua voz.

20 Não esmagará a cana quebrada,

nem apagará o pavio que fumega,

até que faça vencedor o juízo.

21 E no seu nome os gentios

colocarão a sua esperança."

22 Então trouxeram a Jesus um endemoniado, cego e mudo. Jesus o curou, e o homem passou a falar e a ver. 23 E toda a multidão se admirava e dizia:

— Não seria este, por acaso, o Filho de Davi?

24 Mas os fariseus, ouvindo isto, diziam:

— Este não expulsa demônios senão pelo poder de Belzebu, o maioral dos demônios.

25 Mas Jesus, sabendo o que eles pensavam, disse-lhes:

— Todo reino dividido contra si mesmo ficará deserto, e toda cidade ou casa dividida contra si mesma não subsistirá. 26 Se Satanás expulsa Satanás, está dividido contra si mesmo; como, então, o seu reino subsistirá? 27 E, se eu expulso os demônios por Belzebu, por quem os filhos de vocês os expulsam? Por isso, eles mesmos serão os juízes de vocês. 28 Se, porém, eu expulso os demônios pelo Espírito de Deus, certamente é chegado o Reino de Deus sobre vocês. 29 Ou como pode alguém entrar na casa do valente e roubar-lhe os bens sem primeiro amarrá-lo? E só então saqueará a casa dele.

30 — Quem não é por mim é contra mim; e quem comigo não ajunta espalha. 31 Por isso, digo a vocês que todo pecado e blasfêmia serão perdoados aos homens; mas a blasfêmia contra o Espírito não será perdoada. 32 Se alguém disser alguma palavra contra o Filho do Homem, isso lhe será perdoado; mas, se alguém falar contra o Espírito Santo, isso não lhe será perdoado, nem neste mundo nem no porvir.

33 — Tornem a árvore boa e o seu fruto será bom, ou tornem a árvore má e o seu fruto será mau; porque pelo fruto se conhece a árvore. 34 Raça de víboras! Como vocês podem falar coisas boas, sendo maus? Porque a boca fala do que está cheio o coração. 35 A pessoa boa tira do tesouro bom coisas boas; mas a pessoa má do mau tesouro tira coisas más.

36 — Digo a vocês que, no Dia do Juízo, as pessoas darão conta de toda palavra inútil que proferirem; 37 porque, pelas suas palavras, você será justificado e, pelas suas palavras, você será condenado.

38 Então alguns escribas e fariseus disseram a Jesus:

— Mestre, queremos ver algum sinal feito pelo senhor.

39 Mas ele respondeu:

— Uma geração perversa e adúltera pede um sinal, mas nenhum sinal lhe será dado, senão o do profeta Jonas. 40 Porque assim como Jonas esteve três dias e três noites no ventre do grande peixe, assim o Filho do Homem estará três dias e três noites no coração da terra. 41 Ninivitas se levantarão, no Juízo, com esta geração e a condenarão, porque se arrependeram com a pregação de Jonas. E aqui está quem é maior do que Jonas. 42 A rainha do Sul se levantará, no Juízo, com esta geração e a condenará, porque veio dos confins da terra para ouvir a sabedoria de Salomão. E aqui está quem é maior do que Salomão.

43 — Quando o espírito imundo sai de uma pessoa, anda por lugares áridos procurando repouso, porém não encontra. 44 Por isso, diz: "Voltarei para a minha casa, de onde saí." E, voltando, ele a encontra vazia, varrida e arrumada. 45 Então vai e leva consigo outros sete espíritos, piores do que ele, e, entrando, habitam ali. E o último estado daquela pessoa se torna pior do que o primeiro. Assim também acontecerá a esta geração perversa.

46 Enquanto Jesus ainda falava ao povo, eis que a mãe e os irmãos dele estavam do lado de fora, procurando falar com ele. 47 E alguém lhe disse:

— A sua mãe e os seus irmãos estão lá fora e querem falar com o senhor.

48 Porém Jesus respondeu ao que lhe trouxe o aviso:

— Quem é a minha mãe e quem são os meus irmãos?

49 E, estendendo a mão para os discípulos, disse:

— Eis minha mãe e meus irmãos. 50 Portanto, aquele que fizer a vontade de meu Pai celeste, esse é meu irmão, minha irmã e minha mãe.

1 At that season Jesus went on the sabbath day through the grainfields; and his disciples were hungry and began to pluck ears and to eat. 2 But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do upon the sabbath. 3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was hungry, and they that were with him; 4 how he entered into the house of God, and ate the showbread, which it was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them that were with him, but only for the priests? 5 Or have ye not read in the law, that on the sabbath day the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are guiltless? 6 But I say unto you, that one greater than the temple is here. 7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. 8 For the Son of man is lord of the sabbath.

9 And he departed thence, and went into their synagogue: 10 and behold, a man having a withered hand. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? that they might accuse him. 11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be of you, that shall have one sheep, and if this fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? 12 How much then is a man of more value than a sheep! Wherefore it is lawful to do good on the sabbath day. 13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, as the other. 14 But the Pharisees went out, and took counsel against him, how they might destroy him.

15 And Jesus perceiving it withdrew from thence: and many followed him; and he healed them all, 16 and charged them that they should not make him known: 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,

18 Behold, my servant whom I have chosen;

My beloved in whom my soul is well pleased:

I will put my Spirit upon him,

And he shall declare judgment to the Gentiles.

19 He shall not strive, nor cry aloud;

Neither shall any one hear his voice in the streets.

20 A bruised reed shall he not break,

And smoking flax shall he not quench,

Till he send forth judgment unto victory.

21 And in his name shall the Gentiles hope.

22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a demon, blind and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the dumb man spake and saw. 23 And all the multitudes were amazed, and said, Can this be the son of David? 24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This man doth not cast out demons, but by Beelzebub the prince of the demons. 25 And knowing their thoughts he said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: 26 and if Satan casteth out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then shall his kingdom stand? 27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges. 28 But if I by the Spirit of God cast out demons, then is the kingdom of God come upon you. 29 Or how can one enter into the house of the strong man, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house. 30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. 31 Therefore I say unto you, Every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men; but the blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. 32 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him; but whosoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, nor in that which is to come. 33 Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by its fruit. 34 Ye offspring of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 The good man out of his good treasure bringeth forth good things: and the evil man out of his evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 And I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

38 Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying, Teacher, we would see a sign from thee. 39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet: 40 for as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, a greater than Jonah is here. 42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, a greater than Solomon is here. 43 But the unclean spirit, when he is gone out of the man, passeth through waterless places, seeking rest, and findeth it not. 44 Then he saith, I will return into my house whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. 45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man becometh worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this evil generation.

46 While he was yet speaking to the multitudes, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, seeking to speak to him. 47 And one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, seeking to speak to thee. 48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? 49 And he stretched forth his hand towards his disciples, and said, Behold, my mother and my brethren! 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.
