1 Dias depois, Jesus entrou de novo em Cafarnaum, e logo se ouviu dizer que ele estava em casa. 2 Muitos se reuniram ali, a ponto de não haver lugar nem mesmo junto à porta. E Jesus anunciava-lhes a palavra. 3 Trouxeram-lhe, então, um paralítico, carregado por quatro homens. 4 E, não podendo aproximar-se de Jesus, por causa da multidão, removeram o telhado no ponto correspondente ao lugar onde Jesus se encontrava e, pela abertura, desceram o leito em que o paralítico estava deitado. 5 Vendo-lhes a fé, Jesus disse ao paralítico:

— Filho, os seus pecados estão perdoados.

6 Alguns escribas estavam sentados ali e pensavam em seu coração:

7 — Como ele se atreve a falar assim? Isto é blasfêmia! Quem pode perdoar pecados, a não ser um, que é Deus?

8 E Jesus, percebendo imediatamente em seu espírito que eles assim pensavam, disse-lhes:

— Por que vocês estão pensando essas coisas em seu coração? 9 O que é mais fácil? Dizer ao paralítico: "Os seus pecados estão perdoados", ou dizer: "Levante-se, tome o seu leito e ande"? 10 Mas isto é para que vocês saibam que o Filho do Homem tem autoridade sobre a terra para perdoar pecados.

E disse ao paralítico:

11 — Eu digo a você: Levante-se, pegue o seu leito e vá para casa.

12 Ele se levantou e, no mesmo instante, pegando o leito, retirou-se à vista de todos, a ponto de todos se admirarem e darem glória a Deus, dizendo:

— Jamais vimos coisa assim!

13 De novo, Jesus foi para junto do mar, e toda a multidão vinha ao encontro dele, e ele os ensinava. 14 Quando ia passando, viu Levi, filho de Alfeu, sentado na coletoria e lhe disse:

— Siga-me!

Ele se levantou e o seguiu.

15 Achando-se Jesus à mesa, na casa de Levi, estavam junto com ele e com os seus discípulos muitos publicanos e pecadores; porque estes eram muitos e também o seguiam. 16 Os escribas dos fariseus, vendo Jesus comer em companhia dos pecadores e publicanos, perguntavam aos discípulos dele:

— Por que ele come e bebe com os publicanos e pecadores?

17 Tendo ouvido isto, Jesus lhes respondeu:

— Os sãos não precisam de médico, e sim os doentes; eu não vim chamar justos, e sim pecadores.

18 Ora, os discípulos de João e os fariseus estavam jejuando. Algumas pessoas foram perguntar a Jesus:

— Por que os discípulos de João e os discípulos dos fariseus jejuam, mas os seus discípulos não jejuam?

19 Jesus respondeu:

— Como podem os convidados para o casamento jejuar enquanto o noivo está com eles? Durante o tempo em que o noivo estiver presente, não podem jejuar. 20 No entanto, virão dias em que o noivo lhes será tirado, e então, naquele dia, eles vão jejuar. 21 Ninguém costura um remendo de pano novo em roupa velha; porque o remendo novo tira um pedaço da roupa velha, e o buraco fica ainda maior. 22 E ninguém põe vinho novo em odres velhos, porque, se fizer isso, o vinho romperá os odres e se perdem tanto o vinho como os odres. Mas põe-se vinho novo em odres novos.

23 Aconteceu que, num sábado, Jesus atravessava as searas, e os seus discípulos, ao passar, começaram a colher espigas. 24 Então os fariseus disseram a Jesus:

— Olhe! Por que eles estão fazendo o que não é lícito aos sábados?

25 Ele lhes respondeu:

— Vocês nunca leram o que Davi fez quando se viu em necessidade e teve fome, ele e os seus companheiros? 26 Como entrou na Casa de Deus, no tempo do sumo sacerdote Abiatar, e comeu os pães da proposição, os quais só aos sacerdotes era lícito comer, e ainda deu esses pães aos seus companheiros?

27 E Jesus acrescentou:

— O sábado foi estabelecido por causa do homem, e não o homem por causa do sábado. 28 Assim, o Filho do Homem é senhor também do sábado.

1 Several days later Jesus returned to Capernaum. The word spread that he was home.2 So many people gathered that there was no room left even by the door. Jesus was speaking God’s word to them.3 Men came to him carrying a paralyzed man.4 They could not bring him to Jesus because of the crowd. So they removed the roof over the place where Jesus was. Then they lowered the cot on which the paralyzed man was lying.5 When Jesus saw their faith, he told the man: »Friend your sins are forgiven.«6 Some of the scribes sitting there reasoned in their hearts:7 »Why does this man speak this way? He blasphemes for only God is the one who can forgive sins.«8 Jesus immediately discerned in his spirit that they reasoned within themselves. He asked them: »Why reason these things in your hearts?9 »Which is easier to say to the sick man your sins are forgiven or take your bed and walk?10 »So you may see that the Son of man has authority to forgive sins on earth,« he said to the man:11 »Get up and take your bed, and go to your house.«12 He got up, took the bed and went out before them all. They were all filled with wonder. They gave glory to God and said we have never seen anything like this.13 Again he went to the seaside and all the people followed him. So he taught them.14 He saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, seated at the place where taxes were collected. He said to him: »Come with me.« And he got up and went with him.15 He was reclining at the meal in his house. Several tax collectors and sinners were at the table with Jesus and his disciples. There were a great number of them, and they came after him.16 When the scribes of the Pharisees saw he was eating with the tax collectors and sinners they asked his disciples: »Why does he take food and drink with such men?«17 Jesus heard this. He said to them: »Those who are well have no need of a medical man but those who are ill do. I have come to care for sinners not the upright.«18 John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. They came to him and asked: »Why do John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast but your disciples do not?«19 Jesus replied: »Will the friends of a newly married man practice fasting while he is with them? As long as they have him with them they will not go without food.20 »But the days will come when the husband will be taken away from them. Then they will fast.21 »No man puts a patch of new cloth on an old coat. The new, by pulling away from the old, makes a worse hole.22 »No man puts new wine into old wineskins. The skins will burst and the wine and the skins will be wasted. New wine has to be put into new wine skins.«23 Jesus went through the grain fields on the Sabbath day. While they walked his disciples took the heads of grain.24 The Pharisees said: »Why are they doing what it is not right to do on the Sabbath?«25 He said: »Do you not know of what David did when he needed food for himself and his companions?26 »He went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest. David took the holy bread for food and gave to his companions. Only the priests may take the holy bread.27 »The Sabbath was made for man, said Jesus, and not man for the Sabbath.28 »The Son of man is lord even of the Sabbath.«
