1 Naquele tempo, Abias, filho de Jeroboão, adoeceu. 2 Então Jeroboão disse à sua mulher:

— Levante-se, ponha um disfarce para que não saibam que você é a mulher de Jeroboão e vá até Siló. Eis que lá está o profeta Aías, que disse a meu respeito que eu seria rei sobre este povo. 3 Leve com você dez pães, alguns bolos e um pote de mel e vá falar com ele. Ele lhe dirá o que vai acontecer com este menino.

4 A mulher de Jeroboão fez o que lhe foi pedido: levantou-se, foi até Siló e entrou na casa de Aías. Este já não podia ver, porque os seus olhos já não se moviam, por causa da velhice. 5 Porém o Senhor disse a Aías:

— Eis que a mulher de Jeroboão está vindo para lhe perguntar a respeito do filho dela, que está doente. Assim e assim você deve falar com ela. Ao chegar, ela vai estar disfarçada.

6 Quando ela estava entrando pela porta, Aías ouviu o ruído de seus pés e disse:

— Entre, mulher de Jeroboão. Por que você veio disfarçada? Estou encarregado de lhe dar más notícias. 7 Vá e diga a Jeroboão: Assim diz o Senhor, Deus de Israel: "Eu tirei você do meio do povo e fiz com que você se tornasse chefe sobre o meu povo de Israel. 8 Tirei o reino da casa de Davi e o entreguei a você. Mas você não foi como o meu servo Davi, que guardou os meus mandamentos e me seguiu de todo o coração, fazendo somente o que é reto aos meus olhos. 9 Pelo contrário, você fez o mal, pior do que todos os reis que vieram antes de você. Fez outros deuses e imagens de fundição, para provocar-me à ira, e me virou as costas. 10 Portanto, eis que trarei o mal sobre a casa de Jeroboão, e eliminarei de Jeroboão todo e qualquer indivíduo do sexo masculino, tanto o escravo como o livre, e lançarei fora os descendentes da casa de Jeroboão como se lança fora o esterco, até que, de todo, ela se acabe. 11 Se alguém da casa de Jeroboão morrer na cidade, os cães o comerão; e se alguém morrer no campo, as aves do céu o comerão, porque o Senhor o disse."

12 — Quanto a você, mulher de Jeroboão, levante-se e volte para casa. Quando você puser os pés na cidade, o menino morrerá. 13 Todo o Israel o pranteará e o sepultará. Ele será o único da casa de Jeroboão que será sepultado, porque nele se achou alguma coisa boa para com o Senhor, Deus de Israel, na casa de Jeroboão. 14 O Senhor, porém, levantará para si um rei sobre Israel, que eliminará, no seu dia, a casa de Jeroboão. Quando será? Já está acontecendo. 15 O Senhor ferirá Israel para que se agite como a cana se agita nas águas. Vai arrancar Israel desta boa terra que ele deu aos seus pais e o espalhará para além do Eufrates, porque fizeram postes da deusa Aserá, provocando o Senhor à ira. 16 Entregará Israel por causa dos pecados que Jeroboão cometeu e pelos que fez Israel cometer.

17 Então a mulher de Jeroboão se levantou, foi e chegou a Tirza. Quando ela chegou à soleira da porta, o menino morreu. 18 Sepultaram-no, e todo o Israel o pranteou, segundo a palavra do Senhor, anunciada por meio do profeta Aías, seu servo.

19 Quanto aos demais atos de Jeroboão, como guerreou e como reinou, está tudo escrito no Livro da História dos Reis de Israel. 20 Foi de vinte e dois anos o tempo que Jeroboão reinou. Ele morreu, e Nadabe, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.

21 Roboão, filho de Salomão, reinou em Judá. Ele tinha quarenta e um anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou dezessete anos em Jerusalém, na cidade que o Senhor havia escolhido de todas as tribos de Israel, para estabelecer ali o seu nome. A mãe de Roboão se chamava Naamá, e era amonita.

22 Judá fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor, e, com os pecados que cometeu, despertou o seu ciúme, mais do que os seus pais haviam feito. 23 Porque também os de Judá edificaram altos, estátuas, colunas e postes da deusa Aserá sobre todas as colinas e debaixo de todas as árvores frondosas. 24 Havia também na terra prostitutos cultuais. Fizeram segundo todas as coisas abomináveis das nações que o Senhor havia expulsado de diante dos filhos de Israel.

25 No quinto ano do reinado de Roboão, Sisaque, rei do Egito, atacou Jerusalém. 26 Levou embora os tesouros da Casa do Senhor e os tesouros do palácio real. Levou tudo, inclusive todos os escudos de ouro que Salomão tinha feito. 27 Em lugar destes, o rei Roboão fez escudos de bronze e os entregou nas mãos dos capitães da guarda, que guardavam o portão do palácio real. 28 Toda vez que o rei entrava na Casa do Senhor, os da guarda usavam os escudos e depois os devolviam à câmara da guarda.

29 Quanto aos demais atos de Roboão e a tudo o que ele fez, não está tudo escrito no Livro da História dos Reis de Judá? 30 Roboão e Jeroboão estiveram sempre em guerra. 31 Roboão morreu e foi sepultado nos túmulos de seus pais, na Cidade de Davi. A mãe dele se chamava Naamá, e era amonita. E Abias, filho de Roboão, reinou em seu lugar.

1 At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam became sick. 2 Jeroboam said to his wife, "Please get up and disguise yourself, so that you won’t be recognized as Jeroboam’s wife. Go to Shiloh. Behold, Ahijah the prophet is there, who said that I would be king over this people. 3 Take with you ten loaves of bread, some cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him. He will tell you what will become of the child."

4 Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose and went to Shiloh, and came to Ahijah’s house. Now Ahijah could not see, for his eyes were set by reason of his age. 5 Yahweh said to Ahijah, "Behold, Jeroboam’s wife is coming to inquire of you concerning her son, for he is sick. Tell her such and such; for it will be, when she comes in, that she will pretend to be another woman."

6 So when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet as she came in at the door, he said, "Come in, Jeroboam’s wife! Why do you pretend to be another? For I am sent to you with heavy news. 7 Go, tell Jeroboam, ‘Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: "Because I exalted you from among the people, and made you prince over my people Israel, 8 and tore the kingdom away from David’s house, and gave it you; and yet you have not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in my eyes, 9 but have done evil above all who were before you, and have gone and made for yourself other gods, molten images, to provoke me to anger, and have cast me behind your back, 10 therefore, behold, I will bring evil on the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam everyone who urinates on a wall, he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel, and will utterly sweep away the house of Jeroboam, as a man sweeps away dung until it is all gone. 11 The dogs will eat he who belongs to Jeroboam who dies in the city; and the birds of the sky will eat he who dies in the field, for Yahweh has spoken it."’ 12 Arise therefore, and go to your house. When your feet enter into the city, the child will die. 13 All Israel will mourn for him and bury him; for he only of Jeroboam will come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward Yahweh, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam. 14 Moreover Yahweh will raise up a king for himself over Israel who will cut off the house of Jeroboam. This is the day! What? Even now. 15 For Yahweh will strike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water; and he will root up Israel out of this good land which he gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their Asherah poles, provoking Yahweh to anger. 16 He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he has sinned, and with which he has made Israel to sin."

17 Jeroboam’s wife arose and departed, and came to Tirzah. As she came to the threshold of the house, the child died. 18 All Israel buried him and mourned for him, according to Yahweh’s word, which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the prophet.

19 The rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he fought and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel. 20 The days which Jeroboam reigned were twenty two years; then he slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his place.

21 Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. His mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonitess. 22 Judah did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, above all that their fathers had done. 23 For they also built for themselves high places, sacred pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree. 24 There were also sodomites in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations which Yahweh drove out before the children of Israel.

25 In the fifth year of king Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem; 26 and he took away the treasures of Yahweh’s house and the treasures of the king’s house. He even took away all of it, including all the gold shields which Solomon had made. 27 King Rehoboam made shields of bronze in their place, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who kept the door of the king’s house. 28 It was so, that as often as the king went into Yahweh’s house, the guard bore them, and brought them back into the guard room.

29 Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 30 There was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually. 31 Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in David’s city. His mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonitess. Abijam his son reigned in his place.
