1 — Os sacerdotes levitas e toda a tribo de Levi não terão parte nem herança em Israel; comerão das ofertas queimadas ao Senhor e daquilo que lhes é devido. 2 Não terão herança no meio de seus compatriotas; o Senhor é a herança deles, como ele mesmo lhes prometeu. 3 Será este, pois, o direito devido aos sacerdotes, da parte do povo, dos que oferecerem sacrifício, seja gado ou rebanho: devem dar ao sacerdote a espádua, as queixadas e o estômago. 4 Vocês devem dar-lhes as primícias do cereal, do vinho e do azeite e as primícias da tosquia das ovelhas. 5 Porque o Senhor, o Deus de vocês, escolheu os levitas e os filhos deles do meio de todas as tribos de Israel para ministrarem em nome do Senhor, todos os dias.

6 — Se um levita que estiver morando em qualquer das cidades de todo o Israel vier com todo o desejo da sua alma ao lugar que o Senhor escolheu, 7 e ministrar em nome do Senhor, o Deus de vocês, como fazem todos os outros levitas que ali ministram diante do Senhor, 8 ele deverá receber porção igual à dos outros levitas para comer, além das vendas do seu patrimônio.

9 — Quando vocês entrarem na terra que o Senhor, seu Deus, lhes der, não aprendam os costumes abomináveis daqueles povos. 10 Que não exista entre vocês ninguém que queime o seu filho ou a sua filha em sacrifício, nem que seja adivinho, prognosticador, agoureiro, feiticeiro, 11 encantador, necromante, praticante de magia, ou alguém que consulte os mortos, 12 pois todo aquele que faz tal coisa é abominação ao Senhor; e por estas abominações o Senhor, o Deus de vocês, está expulsando esses povos de diante de vocês. 13 Sejam perfeitos para com o Senhor, seu Deus. 14 Porque as nações dessa terra que vocês vão possuir ouvem os prognosticadores e os adivinhos, mas o Senhor, o Deus de vocês, não permitiu que vocês fizessem tal coisa.

15 — O Senhor, seu Deus, fará com que do meio de vocês, do meio dos seus irmãos, se levante um profeta semelhante a mim; a ele vocês devem ouvir. 16 Porque isso foi o que vocês pediram ao Senhor, seu Deus, em Horebe, no dia em que o povo estava reunido. Vocês disseram: "Não nos faça ouvir de novo a voz do Senhor, nosso Deus, nem ver este grande fogo, para que não morramos." 17 Então o Senhor me disse: "Eles estão corretos naquilo que disseram. 18 Farei com que se levante do meio de seus irmãos um profeta semelhante a você, em cuja boca porei as minhas palavras, e ele lhes falará tudo o que eu lhe ordenar. 19 De todo aquele que não ouvir as minhas palavras, que ele falar em meu nome, disso lhe pedirei contas."

20 — Porém o profeta que tiver a presunção de falar alguma palavra em meu nome, algo que eu não mandei que falasse, ou o que falar em nome de outros deuses, esse profeta deve ser morto. 21 Se vocês pensarem: "Como conheceremos a palavra que o Senhor não falou?", 22 saibam que, quando esse profeta falar em nome do Senhor, e a palavra dele não se cumprir, nem acontecer o que ele profetizou, esta é uma palavra que o Senhor não falou. Tal profeta falou isso com presunção; não tenham medo dele.

1 The priests and the Levites—all the tribe of Levi—shall have no portion nor inheritance with Israel. They shall eat the offerings of Yahweh made by fire and his portion. 2 They shall have no inheritance among their brothers. Yahweh is their inheritance, as he has spoken to them. 3 This shall be the priests’ due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep, that they shall give to the priest: the shoulder, the two cheeks, and the inner parts. 4 You shall give him the first fruits of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep. 5 For Yahweh your God has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand to minister in Yahweh’s name, him and his sons forever.

6 If a Levite comes from any of your gates out of all Israel where he lives, and comes with all the desire of his soul to the place which Yahweh shall choose, 7 then he shall minister in the name of Yahweh his God, as all his brothers the Levites do, who stand there before Yahweh. 8 They shall have like portions to eat, in addition to that which comes from the sale of his family possessions.

9 When you have come into the land which Yahweh your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who tells fortunes, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, 11 or a charmer, or someone who consults with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12 For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh. Because of these abominations, Yahweh your God drives them out from before you. 13 You shall be blameless with Yahweh your God. 14 For these nations that you shall dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery and to diviners; but as for you, Yahweh your God has not allowed you so to do. 15 Yahweh your God will raise up to you a prophet from among you, of your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him. 16 This is according to all that you desired of Yahweh your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, "Let me not hear again Yahweh my God’s voice, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I not die."

17 Yahweh said to me, "They have well said that which they have spoken. 18 I will raise them up a prophet from among their brothers, like you. I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him. 19 It shall happen, that whoever will not listen to my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. 20 But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die."

21 You may say in your heart, "How shall we know the word which Yahweh has not spoken?" 22 When a prophet speaks in Yahweh’s name, if the thing doesn’t follow, nor happen, that is the thing which Yahweh has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You shall not be afraid of him.
