Psalm 147

Praise for Jerusalem’s Restoration and Prosperity.

For it is good to sing praises to our God;

For *147:1 Or He is delightfulit is pleasant and praise is *147:1 Or fittingbeautiful.

2 The Lord builds up Jerusalem;

He gathers the outcasts of Israel.

3 He heals the brokenhearted

And binds up their *147:3 Lit painswounds.

4 He counts the number of the stars;

He *147:4 Or calls them all by their namesgives names to all of them.

5 Great is our Lord and abundant in strength;

His understanding is *147:5 Lit innumerableinfinite.

6 The Lord*147:6 Or relievessupports the afflicted;

He brings the wicked down to the ground.

7 Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;

Sing praises to our God on the lyre;

8 It is He who covers the heavens with clouds,

Who provides rain for the earth,

Who makes grass sprout on the mountains.

9 It is He who gives an animal its food,

And feeds young ravens that cry.

10 He does not delight in *147:10 I.e., as a military assetthe strength of the horse;

He does not take pleasure in the *147:10 I.e., as a military assetlegs of a man.

11 The Lord favors those who fear Him,

Those who wait for His *147:11 Or mercyfaithfulness.

12 Praise the Lord, Jerusalem!

Praise your God, Zion!

13 For He has strengthened the bars of your gates;

He has blessed your sons among you.

14 He makes *147:14 Lit your borders peacepeace in your borders;

He satisfies you with the *147:14 Lit fatfinest of the wheat.

15 He sends His command to the earth;

His word runs very swiftly.

16 He *147:16 Lit givesshowers snow like wool;

He scatters the frost like ashes.

17 He hurls His ice as fragments;

Who can stand before His cold?

18 He sends His word and makes them melt;

He makes His wind blow, and the waters flow.

19 He declares His words to Jacob,

His statutes and His judgments to Israel.

20 He has not dealt this way with any other nation;

And as for His judgments, *147:20 I.e., the other nationsthey have not known them.
