Ezekiel 42

The Rooms for the Priests

1 Then the man led me northward into the outer court and brought me to the rooms opposite the temple courtyard and opposite the outer wall on the north side. 2 The building whose door faced north was a hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide.*42:2 That is, about 175 feet long and 88 feet wide or about 53 meters long and 27 meters wide3 Both in the section twenty cubits*42:3 That is, about 35 feet or about 11 meters from the inner court and in the section opposite the pavement of the outer court, gallery faced gallery at the three levels. 4 In front of the rooms was an inner passageway ten cubits wide and a hundred cubits*42:4 Septuagint and Syriac; Hebrew and one cubit long.*42:4 That is, about 18 feet wide and 175 feet long or about 5.3 meters wide and 53 meters long Their doors were on the north. 5 Now the upper rooms were narrower, for the galleries took more space from them than from the rooms on the lower and middle floors of the building. 6 The rooms on the top floor had no pillars, as the courts had; so they were smaller in floor space than those on the lower and middle floors. 7 There was an outer wall parallel to the rooms and the outer court; it extended in front of the rooms for fifty cubits. 8 While the row of rooms on the side next to the outer court was fifty cubits long, the row on the side nearest the sanctuary was a hundred cubits long. 9 The lower rooms had an entrance on the east side as one enters them from the outer court.

10 On the south side*42:10 Septuagint; Hebrew Eastward along the length of the wall of the outer court, adjoining the temple courtyard and opposite the outer wall, were rooms 11 with a passageway in front of them. These were like the rooms on the north; they had the same length and width, with similar exits and dimensions. Similar to the doorways on the north 12 were the doorways of the rooms on the south. There was a doorway at the beginning of the passageway that was parallel to the corresponding wall extending eastward, by which one enters the rooms.

13 Then he said to me, "The north and south rooms facing the temple courtyard are the priests’ rooms, where the priests who approach the Lord will eat the most holy offerings. There they will put the most holy offerings—the grain offerings, the sin offerings*42:13 Or purification offerings and the guilt offerings—for the place is holy. 14 Once the priests enter the holy precincts, they are not to go into the outer court until they leave behind the garments in which they minister, for these are holy. They are to put on other clothes before they go near the places that are for the people."

15 When he had finished measuring what was inside the temple area, he led me out by the east gate and measured the area all around: 16 He measured the east side with the measuring rod; it was five hundred cubits.*42:16 See Septuagint of verse 17; Hebrew rods; also in verses 18 and 19.*42:16 Five hundred cubits equal about 875 feet or about 265 meters; also in verses 17, 18 and 19.17 He measured the north side; it was five hundred cubits*42:17 Septuagint; Hebrew rods by the measuring rod. 18 He measured the south side; it was five hundred cubits by the measuring rod. 19 Then he turned to the west side and measured; it was five hundred cubits by the measuring rod. 20 So he measured the area on all four sides. It had a wall around it, five hundred cubits long and five hundred cubits wide, to separate the holy from the common.

Por isso, a área deles era menor do que a dos quartos dos andares inferior e intermediário, desde o piso. 7 Havia uma parede externa paralela aos quartos e ao pátio externo; a sua extensão era de cinquenta côvados, na frente dos quartos. 8 A fileira de quartos junto ao pátio interno tinha cinquenta côvados de comprimento, e a que ficava mais próxima do pátio central tinha cem côvados de comprimento. 9 Os quartos de baixo tinham entrada pelo lado leste, quando se vem do pátio externo.

10 No lado sul, ao longo da parede do pátio externo, adjacentes ao pátio do templo e no lado oposto do muro externo, havia quartos 11 com uma passagem na frente deles. Eram como os quartos do lado norte; tinham o mesmo comprimento e a mesma largura, com saídas e dimensões semelhantes. As portas do lado norte 12 eram semelhantes às portas dos quartos do lado sul. Havia uma entrada no início do corredor paralelo ao muro correspondente que se estendia a leste; esse corredor dava acesso aos quartos.

13 Depois, o homem me disse:

— Os quartos do norte e do sul que dão para o pátio do templo são os quartos em que os sacerdotes que se aproximam do Senhor comerão e guardarão as ofertas santíssimas, isto é, as ofertas de cereal, as ofertas pelo pecado e as ofertas pela culpa, pois o local é santo. 14 Assim que os sacerdotes entrarem nos recintos sagrados, só poderão ir para o pátio externo depois de tirarem as vestes com as quais ministram, pois elas são santas. Porão outras vestes antes de se aproximarem dos lugares reservados para o povo.

15 Quando ele acabou de medir o que havia dentro da área do templo, levou-me para fora pela porta Leste e mediu a área ao redor. 16 Mediu o lado leste com a vara de medir; tinha quinhentos côvados.*42.16 Isto é, cerca de 265 metros.
