Job 37

1 "At this my heart pounds

and leaps from its place.

2 Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice,

to the rumbling that comes from his mouth.

3 He unleashes his lightning beneath the whole heaven

and sends it to the ends of the earth.

4 After that comes the sound of his roar;

he thunders with his majestic voice.

When his voice resounds,

he holds nothing back.

5 God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways;

he does great things beyond our understanding.

6 He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’

and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’

7 So that everyone he has made may know his work,

he stops all people from their labor.*37:7 Or work, / he fills all people with fear by his power

8 The animals take cover;

they remain in their dens.

9 The tempest comes out from its chamber,

the cold from the driving winds.

10 The breath of God produces ice,

and the broad waters become frozen.

11 He loads the clouds with moisture;

he scatters his lightning through them.

12 At his direction they swirl around

over the face of the whole earth

to do whatever he commands them.

13 He brings the clouds to punish people,

or to water his earth and show his love.

14 "Listen to this, Job;

stop and consider God’s wonders.

15 Do you know how God controls the clouds

and makes his lightning flash?

16 Do you know how the clouds hang poised,

those wonders of him who has perfect knowledge?

17 You who swelter in your clothes

when the land lies hushed under the south wind,

18 can you join him in spreading out the skies,

hard as a mirror of cast bronze?

19 "Tell us what we should say to him;

we cannot draw up our case because of our darkness.

20 Should he be told that I want to speak?

Would anyone ask to be swallowed up?

21 Now no one can look at the sun,

bright as it is in the skies

after the wind has swept them clean.

22 Out of the north he comes in golden splendor;

God comes in awesome majesty.

23 The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power;

in his justice and great righteousness, he does not oppress.

24 Therefore, people revere him,

for does he not have regard for all the wise in heart?*37:24 Or for he does not have regard for any who think they are wise."

1 "Diante disso, o meu coração bate aceleradamente

e salta do lugar.

2 Ouça! Escute o estrondo da sua voz,

o trovejar da sua boca.

3 Ele solta relâmpagos por baixo de toda a extensão do céu

e os manda para os confins da terra.

4 Depois, vem o som do seu grande estrondo:

ele troveja com a sua majestosa voz.

Quando a sua voz ressoa,

nada o faz recuar.

5 A voz de Deus troveja maravilhosamente;

ele faz coisas grandiosas, acima do nosso entendimento.

6 Ele diz à neve: ‘Caia sobre a terra’,

e à chuva: ‘Seja um forte aguaceiro’.

7 Ele paralisa o trabalho de toda a humanidade,

a fim de que todos reconheçam as obras dele.*37.7 Ou a fim de que todos os que ele criou o reconheçam.

8 Os animais vão para os seus esconderijos

e ficam nas suas tocas.

9 A tempestade sai da sua câmara,

e dos vendavais do norte vem o frio.

10 O sopro de Deus produz gelo,

e as vastas águas se congelam.

11 Também carrega de umidade as nuvens

e entre elas espalha os seus relâmpagos.

12 Ele as faz girar, circulando sobre a superfície de toda a terra,

para fazerem tudo o que ele lhes ordenar.

13 Ele traz as nuvens,

ora para castigar os homens,

ora para regar a sua terra*37.13 Ou para favorecê-los.

e lhes mostrar o seu amor.

14 "Escute isto, Jó;

pare e reflita nas maravilhas de Deus.

15 Acaso você sabe como Deus comanda as nuvens

e faz brilhar os seus relâmpagos?

16 Você sabe como ele suspende as nuvens,

esse ato maravilhoso daquele que tem perfeito conhecimento?

17 Você, que na sua roupa desfalece de calor

quando a terra fica amortecida sob o vento sul,

18 pode ajudá-lo a estender os céus,

sólidos como espelho de bronze?

19 "Diga-nos o que devemos dizer a ele;

não podemos elaborar a nossa defesa por causa das nossas trevas.

20 Deveria Deus ser avisado de que desejo falar com ele?

Quem pediria para ser devorado?

21 Ninguém pode olhar para o fulgor do sol nos céus

depois que o vento os deixa limpos.

22 Do norte vem luz dourada;

Deus vem em temível majestade.

23 Fora do nosso alcance está o Todo-poderoso,*37.23 Hebraico: Shadai. exaltado em poder;

contudo, na sua justiça e retidão, não oprime ninguém.

24 Por isso, os homens o temem;

não dá ele atenção a todos os sábios de coração?".*37.24 Ou pois ele não tem consideração por ninguém que se ache sábio.
