Romans 15:8-13

NIV New International Version

8 For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews15:8 Greek circumcision on behalf of God’s truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed 9 and, moreover, that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written:

"Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles;

I will sing the praises of your name."15:9 2 Samuel 22:50; Psalm 18:49

10 Again, it says,

"Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people."15:10 Deut. 32:43

11 And again,

"Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles;

let all the peoples extol him."15:11 Psalm 117:1

12 And again, Isaiah says,

"The Root of Jesse will spring up,

one who will arise to rule over the nations;

in him the Gentiles will hope."15:12 Isaiah 11:10 (see Septuagint)

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

    I will sing praises to your name."15:9 Ps 18:49.

    "Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles.

    Praise him, all you people of the earth."15:11 Ps 117:1.

    12 And in another place Isaiah said,

    and he will rule over the Gentiles.

    They will place their hope on him."15:12b Isa 11:10 (Greek version).

    13 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

  8. MSG The Message

    7-13 So reach out and welcome one another to God’s glory. Jesus did it; now you do it! Jesus, staying true to God’s purposes, reached out in a special way to the Jewish insiders so that the old ancestral promises would come true for them. As a result, the non-Jewish outsiders have been able to experience mercy and to show appreciation to God. Just think of all the Scriptures that will come true in what we do! For instance:

    Then I’ll join outsiders in a hymn-sing;

    I’ll sing to your name!

    And this one:

    Outsiders and insiders, rejoice together!

    And again:

    People of all nations, celebrate God!

    All colors and races, give hearty praise!

    And Isaiah’s word:

    There’s the root of our ancestor Jesse,

    breaking through the earth and growing tree tall,

    Tall enough for everyone everywhere to see and take hope!

    Oh! May the God of green hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope!
