   16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD. 17 They say still unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.*23.17 imagination: or, stubbornness 21 I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.

   to congregations with no taste for God,

   Their ‘Nothing Bad Will Ever Happen to You’ sermon

   to people who are set in their own ways.

   21,22 "I never sent these prophets,

   but they ran anyway.

   I never spoke to them,

   but they preached away.

   If they’d have bothered to sit down and meet with me,

   they’d have preached my Message to my people.

   They’d have gotten them back on the right track,

   gotten them out of their evil ruts.
