1 Solomon was king over all Israel.2 His high officials were as follows: The priest: Azariah son of Zadok,3 the court secretaries: Elihoreph and Ahijah, sons of Shisha In charge of the records: Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud.4 Commander of the army: Benaiah son of Jehoiada. Priests: Zadok and Abiathar.5 Chief of the district governors: Azariah son of Nathan Royal Adviser: the priest Zabud son of Nathan.6 In charge of the palace servants: Ahishar In charge of the forced labor: Adoniram son of Abda.7 Solomon appointed twelve men as district governors in Israel. They provided food from their districts for the king and his household, each man being responsible for one month out of the year.8 The following are the names of these twelve officers and the districts they were in charge of: Benhur: the mountains of Ephraim,9 Bendeker: the cities of Makaz, Shaalbim, Beth Shemesh, Elon, and Beth Hanan,10 Benhesed: the cities of Arubboth and Socoh and all the territory of Hepher,11 Benabinadab, who was married to Solomon's daughter Taphath: the whole region of Dor.12 Baana son of Ahilud: the cities of Taanach, Megiddo, and all the region near Beth Shan, near the town of Zarethan, south of the town of Jezreel, as far as the city of Abel Meholah and the city of Jokmeam.13 Bengeber: the city of Ramoth in Gilead, and the villages in Gilead belonging to the clan of Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, and the region of Argob in Bashan, sixty large towns in all, fortified with walls and with bronze bars on the gates.14 Ahinadab son of Iddo: the district of Mahanaim.15 Ahimaaz, who was married to Basemath, another of Solomon's daughters: the territory of Naphtali.16 Baana son of Hushai: the region of Asher and the town of Bealoth.17 Jehoshaphat son of Paruah: the territory of Issachar.18 Shimei son of Ela: the territory of Benjamin.19 Geber son of Uri: the region of Gilead, which had been ruled by King Sihon of the Amorites and King Og of Bashan. Besides these twelve, there was one governor over all the land.20 The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the grains of sand on the seashore. They ate and drank and were very happy.21 Solomon's kingdom included all the nations from the Euphrates River to Philistia and the Egyptian border. They paid him taxes and were subject to him all his life.22 The supplies Solomon needed each day were one hundred and fifty bushels of fine flour and three hundred bushels of meal.23 Also needed were ten stall-fed cattle, twenty pasture-fed cattle, and one hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fowl cuckoo.24 Solomon ruled over all the land west of the Euphrates River, from Tiphsah on the Euphrates as far west as the city of Gaza. All the kings west of the Euphrates were subject to him. He was at peace with all the neighboring countries.25 As long as he lived, the people throughout Judah and Israel lived in safety. Each family had its own grapevines and fig trees.26 Solomon had forty thousand stalls for his chariot horses and twelve thousand cavalry horses.27 His twelve governors supplied the food King Solomon needed for all who ate in the palace. They always supplied everything needed, each one in the month assigned.28 Each governor also supplied his share of barley and straw as needed for the chariot horses and the work animals.29 God gave Solomon great wisdom and insight, and knowledge too great to be measured.30 Solomon was wiser than the wise men of the East or the wise men of Egypt.31 He was the wisest of all men. He was wiser than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, Calcol, and Darda, and the sons of Mahol. His fame spread throughout all the neighboring countries.32 He wrote three thousand proverbs and more than a thousand songs.33 He spoke of trees and plants, from the Lebanon cedars to the hyssop that grows on walls. He talked about animals, birds, reptiles, and fish.34 Kings all over the world heard of his wisdom and sent people to listen to the Wisdom of Solomon.

1 Assim foi Salomão rei sobre todo o Israel.2 E estes eram os príncipes que tinha: Azarias, filho de Zadoque, era sacerdote;3 Eliorefe e Aías, filhos de Sisa, secretários; Jeosafá, filho de Ailude, cronista;4 Benaías, filho de Jeoiada, estava sobre o exército; Zadoque e Abiatar eram sacerdotes;5 Azarias, filho de Natã, estava sobre os intendentes; Zabude, filho de Natã, era o oficial-mor, amigo do rei;6 Aisar, o mordomo; e Adonirão, filho de Abda, estava sobre a gente de trabalhos forçados.7 Salomão tinha doze intendentes sobre todo o Israel, que proviam de mantimentos ao rei e à sua casa; e cada um tinha que prover mantimentos para um mês no ano.8 São estes os seus nomes: Ben-Hur, na região montanhosa de Efraim.9 Ben-Dequer, em Macaz, Saalabim, Bete-Semes e Elom-Bete-Hanã;10 Ben-Hesede, em Arubote; também este tinha Socó e toda a terra de Jefer;11 Ben-Abinadabe, em toda a região alta de Dor; tinha este a Tafate, filha de Salomão, por mulher;12 Baaná, filho de Ailude, em Taanaque e Megido, e em toda a Bete-Seã, que está junto a Zaretã, abaixo de Jizreel, desde Bete-Seã até Abel-Meolá, para além de Jocmeão;13 o filho de Geber, em Ramote-Gileade; tinha este as aldeias de Jair, filho de Manassés, as quais estão em Gileade; também tinha a região de Argobe, o qual está em Basã, sessenta grandes cidades com muros e ferrolhos de bronze:14 Ainadabe, filho de Ido, em Maanaim;15 Aimaaz, em Naftali; também este tomou a Basemate, filha de Salomão, por mulher;16 Baaná, filho de Hasai, em Aser e em Alote;17 Jeosafá, filho de Paruá, em Issacar;18 Simei, filho de Elá, em Benjamim;19 Geber, filho de Uri, na terra de Gileade, a terra de Siom, rei dos amorreus, e de Ogue, rei de Basã; havia um só intendente naquela terra.20 Eram, pois, os de Judá e Israel numerosos, como a areia que está à beira do mar; e, comendo e bebendo, se alegravam.21 E dominava Salomão sobre todos os reinos, desde o rio até a terra dos filisteus e até o termo do Egito; eles pagavam tributo, e serviram a Salomão todos os dias da sua vida.22 O provimento diário de Salomão era de trinta coros de flor de farinha, e sessenta coros e farinha;23 dez bois cevados, vinte bois de pasto e cem ovelhas, afora os veados, gazelas, cabras montesas e aves cevadas.24 Pois dominava ele sobre toda a região e sobre todos os reis daquém do rio, desde Tifsa até Gaza; e tinha paz por todos os lados em redor.25 Judá e Israel habitavam seguros, desde Dã até Berseba, cada um debaixo da sua videira, e debaixo da sua figueira, por todos os dias de Salomão.26 Salomão tinha também quarenta mil manjedouras para os cavalos dos seus carros, e doze mil cavaleiros.27 Aqueles intendentes, pois, cada um no seu mês, proviam de mantimentos o rei Salomão e todos quantos se chegavam à sua mesa; coisa nenhuma deixavam faltar.28 Também traziam, cada um segundo seu cargo, a cevada e a palha para os cavalos e os ginetes, para o lugar em que estivessem.29 Ora, Deus deu a Salomão sabedoria, e muitíssimo entendimento, e conhecimentos múltiplos, como a areia que está na praia do mar.30 A sabedoria de Salomão era maior do que a de todos os do Oriente e do que toda a sabedoria dos egípcios.31 Era ele ainda mais sábio do que todos os homens, mais sábio do que Etã, o ezraíta, e do que Hemã, Calcol e Darda, filhos de Maol; e a sua fama correu por todas as nações em redor.32 Proferiu ele três mil provérbios, e foram os seus cânticos mil e cinco.33 Dissertou a respeito das árvores, desde o cedro que está no Líbano até o hissopo que brota da parede; também dissertou sobre os animais, as aves, os répteis e os peixes.34 De todos os povos vinha gente para ouvir a sabedoria de Salomão, e da parte de todos os reis da terra que tinham ouvido da sua sabedoria.
