1 I will stand at my guard post at the tower on the wall. I will watch and wait to see what he will say to me and what I will answer when I am reproved.2 Jehovah answered me: »Write the vision. Record it on tablets that he who reads it may run.3 »The vision is yet for the appointed time. It moves quickly to the end. It will not lie! If it delays, wait for it for it will surely come. It will not be late!4 »Behold, he is proud. He is not righteous. The righteous will live by faith.5 »Wine is treacherous and never allows an arrogant man to rest. He never stays home. He has a large appetite like the grave. Like death he is never satisfied. He gathers all nations and collects all the people.6 »Will they all taunt him by directing clever sayings and riddles at him? They will say: How horrible it will be for the one who makes himself rich with what is not his own by extortion and makes himself wealthy on loans. How long will this go on?7 »Will your creditors and collection agents suddenly arise and make you tremble? Then you will become their prize.8 »The people who remain will plunder you because you have plundered many nations. It is because of the blood you shed and the violence you brought on the land, the city and all who dwell there.9 »He who receives a dishonest profit for his house will have trouble. He may set his nest on high in order to be delivered from the hand of evil!10 »You have purposed a shameful thing for your house. You have sinned against yourself by destroying many people.11 »The stones will cry out from the wall. The beams out of the woodwork will answer it.12 »Woe to him who builds a town with bloodshed and establishes a city with iniquity!13 »Is it for Jehovah of Hosts that the peoples labor for the fire? Do the nations weary themselves for vanity?14 »The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Jehovah, as the waters cover the sea.15 »Woe to anyone who gives his neighbors drink and empties his bottle. He makes them drunk and then looks on their nakedness.16 »You are filled with shame and not glory. You drink also as one who is uncircumcised. The cup of Jehovah's right strong hand will come around to you. Intense shame will tarnish your glory.17 »The violence done to Lebanon will overwhelm you. The destruction of the animals and shedding of blood will frighten you. The violence done to the inhabitants of the land and the city will terrify you.18 »What is an idol worth after the carver is done? It is merely a false god. Why trust a speechless image made by human hands from wood or metal?19 »Woe to anyone who says to an idol of wood or stone get up! You can learn nothing from idols covered with silver or gold? They cannot breathe or talk.20 »Jehovah is in his Holy Temple. Let all the earth be silent before him.«

1 Sobre a minha torre de vigia me colocarei e sobre a fortaleza me apresentarei e vigiarei, para ver o que me dirá, e o que eu responderei no tocante, a minha queixa.2 Então o Senhor me respondeu , e disse: Escreve a visão e torna-se bem legível sobre tábuas, para que a possa ler quem passa correndo.3 Pois a visão é ainda para o tempo determinado, e até o fim falará, e não mentirá. Ainda que se demore, espera-o; porque certamente virá, não tardará.4 Eis o soberbo! A sua alma não é reta nele; mas o justo pela sua fé viverá.5 Além disso, o vinho é traidor; o homem soberbo não permanece. Ele alarga como o Seol o seu desejo; como a morte, nunca se pode fartar, mas ajunta a si todas as nações, e congrega a si todos os povos.6 Não levantarão, pois, todos estes contra ele um provérbio e um dito zombador? E dirão: Ai daquele que acumula o que não é seu! {até quando?} e daquele que se carrega a si mesmo de penhores!7 Não se levantarão de repente os teus credores? e não despertarão os que te farão tremer? Então lhes servirás tu de despojo.8 Visto como despojaste muitas nações, os demais povos te despojarão a ti, por causa do sangue dos homens, e da violência para com á terra, a cidade, e todos os que nela habitam.9 Ai daquele que adquire para a sua casa lucros criminosos, para pôr o seu ninho no alto, a fim de se livrar das garras da calamidade!10 Vergonha maquinaste para a tua casa; destruindo tu a muitos povos, pecaste contra a tua alma.11 pois a pedra clamará da parede, e a trave lhe responderá do madeiramento.12 Ai daquele que edifica a cidade com sangue, e que funda a cidade com iniqüidade!13 Acaso não procede do Senhor dos exércitos que os povos trabalhem para o fogo e as nações se cansem em vão?14 Pois a terra se encherá do conhecimento da glória do Senhor, como as águas cobrem o mar.15 Ai daquele que da de beber ao seu próximo, adicionando à bebida o seu furor, e que o embebeda para ver a sua nudez!16 Serás farto de ignomínia em lugar de honra; bebe tu também, e sê como um incurcunciso; o cálice da mão direita do Senhor se chegará a ti, e ignomínia cairá sobre a tua glória.17 Pois a violência cometida contra o Líbano te cobrirá, e bem assim a destruição das feras te amedrontará por causa do sangue dos homens, e da violência para com a terra, a cidade e todos os que nele habitam.18 Que aproveita a imagem esculpida, tendo-a esculpido o seu artífice? a imagem de fundição, que ensina a mentira? Pois o artífice confia na sua própria obra, quando forma ídolos mudos.19 Ai daquele que diz ao pau: Acorda; e à pedra muda: Desperta! Pode isso ensinar? Eis que está coberto de ouro e de prata, e dentro dele não há espírito algum.20 Mas o Senhor está no seu santo templo; cale-se diante dele toda a terra; cale-se diante dele toda a terra.
