1 Wisdom built her house. She carved her seven pillars.2 She prepared her food and mixed her wine. She furnished her table.3 She sent her maidens. She cried on the highest places of the city,4 »Who is simple? Let him turn in here! He who lacks understanding,« she says to him,5 »Come eat my bread, and drink the wine that I have mixed.6 »Forsake the foolish, and live. Travel in the way of understanding.«7 Correct a scoffer and get dishonor for yourself. Rebuke a wicked man and receive insults.8 Correct a scoffer mockerscorner and he will hate you. Reprove a wise man and he will love you.9 Give instruction to a wise man and he will become even wiser. Teach a righteous man, and he will increase his learning insight.10 Respect for Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom. Knowledge of the holy One is understanding discernmenttruthwisdom.11 I will increase your days. I will add more years to your life.12 When you are wise you are wise for yourself. When you scoff you bear it alone.13 A foolish woman is noisy. She has no sense at all.14 She sits at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,15 to call those who pass by who go straight on their way:16 »Let the inexperienced naïve one come in here,« and to the person who lacks understanding she says:17 »Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.«18 He does not know the dead are there. Her guests are in the depths of the grave.

1 A sabedoria já edificou a sua casa, já lavrou as suas sete colunas;2 já imolou as suas vítimas, misturou o seu vinho, e preparou a sua mesa.3 Já enviou as suas criadas a clamar sobre as alturas da cidade, dizendo:4 Quem é simples, volte-se para cá. Aos faltos de entendimento diz:5 Vinde, comei do meu pão, e bebei do vinho que tenho misturado.6 Deixai a insensatez, e vivei; e andai pelo caminho do entendimento.7 O que repreende ao escarnecedor, traz afronta sobre si; e o que censura ao ímpio, recebe a sua mancha.8 Não repreendas ao escarnecedor, para que não te odeie; repreende ao sábio, e amar-te-á.9 Instrui ao sábio, e ele se fará mais, sábio; ensina ao justo, e ele crescerá em entendimento.10 O temor do Senhor é o princípio sabedoria; e o conhecimento do Santo é o entendimento.11 Porque por mim se multiplicam os teus dias, e anos de vida se te acrescentarão.12 Se fores sábio, para ti mesmo o serás; e, se fores escarnecedor, tu só o suportarás.13 A mulher tola é alvoroçadora; é insensata, e não conhece o pudor.14 Senta-se à porta da sua casa ou numa cadeira, nas alturas da cidade,15 chamando aos que passam e seguem direitos o seu caminho:16 Quem é simples, volte-se para cá! E aos faltos de entendimento diz:17 As águas roubadas são doces, e o pão comido às ocultas é agradável.18 Mas ele não sabe que ali estão os mortos; que os seus convidados estão nas profundezas do Seol.
