1 O Senhor Deus disse a Moisés:

2 — Separe para mim todo primeiro filho. Todo primeiro filho homem dos israelitas e todo primeiro filhote macho dos animais domésticos são meus.

3 Moisés disse ao povo:

— Lembrem deste dia, o dia em que vocês saíram do Egito, onde eram escravos. Este é o dia em que o Senhor os tirou de lá pelo seu grande poder. Portanto, não comam pão feito com fermento. 4 Vocês estão saindo do Egito neste dia, no primeiro mês, o mês de abibe. 5 O Senhor jurou aos seus antepassados que daria a vocês a terra dos cananeus, dos heteus, dos amorreus, dos heveus e dos jebuseus. É uma terra boa e rica. Quando ele os levar para aquela terra, vocês deverão comemorar essa festa religiosa no primeiro mês de cada ano. 6 Durante sete dias vocês comerão pão sem fermento; e no sétimo dia haverá uma festa religiosa em honra do Senhor. 7 Nesses sete dias vocês comerão pão sem fermento. Em toda a sua terra não deverá haver fermento, nem pão feito com fermento. 8 Nesse dia vocês contarão aos seus filhos que estão fazendo isso por causa daquilo que o Senhor fez por vocês quando saíram do Egito. 9 Essa festa será como um sinal para vocês, como se fosse uma coisa amarrada na mão ou na testa, e os ajudará a lembrarem de recitar e de estudar a lei de Deus, o Senhor; pois com grande poder ele os tirou do Egito. 10 Portanto, comemorem essa festa religiosa no dia certo, todos os anos.

11 — O Senhor Deus fará com que vocês entrem na terra dos cananeus, conforme ele jurou a vocês e aos seus antepassados. Quando ele lhes der essa terra, 12 vocês darão ao Senhor todo primeiro filho homem. Todo primeiro filhote macho também pertencerá a ele. 13 Mas, se quiserem ficar com o primeiro filhote macho de uma jumenta, ofereçam a Deus um carneiro; se não quiserem, quebrem o pescoço do jumentinho. Fiquem com todo primeiro filho homem de vocês, pagando por ele o preço determinado . 14 No futuro, quando os seus filhos perguntarem o que isso quer dizer, vocês responderão: "Com grande poder o Senhor nos tirou do Egito, onde éramos escravos. 15 Quando o rei do Egito teimou em não nos deixar sair, o Senhor matou todos os primeiros filhos no Egito, tanto das pessoas como dos animais. É por isso que oferecemos ao Senhor em sacrifício todo primeiro filhote macho. Mas pagamos o preço determinado para ficar com os nossos primeiros filhos. 16 Isso será como uma lembrança, como alguma coisa amarrada nas mãos ou na testa. E nos fará lembrar que com o seu grande poder o Senhor nos tirou do Egito."

17 Quando o rei deixou que o povo israelita saísse do Egito, Deus não os levou pelo caminho que vai pelo país dos filisteus, embora fosse o mais curto. Deus pensou assim: "Não quero que os israelitas mudem de ideia e voltem para o Egito, quando virem que terão de guerrear." 18 Por isso Deus fez com que o povo desse uma volta pelo caminho do deserto, na direção do mar Vermelho. Os israelitas saíram do Egito armados para guerrear. 19 Moisés levou o corpo de José, pois José havia feito os israelitas jurarem que fariam isso. Ele tinha dito: "Quando Deus os libertar, levem daqui o meu corpo."

20 Os israelitas saíram de Sucote e acamparam em Etã, onde começa o deserto. 21 Durante o dia o Senhor ia na frente deles numa coluna de nuvem, para lhes mostrar o caminho. Durante a noite ele ia na frente deles numa coluna de fogo, para iluminar o caminho, a fim de que pudessem andar de dia e de noite. 22 A coluna de nuvem sempre ia adiante deles durante o dia, e a coluna de fogo ia durante a noite.

1 FOR behold, the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem, and from Judah, the stay and the staff, the whole staff of bread, and the whole stay of water-2 The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient;3 The captain of fifty, and the honorable man, and the counselor, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator.4 And I will give children unto them to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.5 And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbor; the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honorable.6 When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, and shall say: Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let not this ruin come under thy hand-7 In that day shall he swear, saying: I will not be a healer; for in my house there is neither bread nor clothing; make me not a ruler of the people.8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen, because their tongues and their doings have been against the Lord, to provoke the eyes of his glory.9 The show of their countenance doth witness against them, and doth declare their sin to be even as Sodom, and they cannot hide it. Wo unto their souls, for they have rewarded evil unto themselves!10 Say unto the righteous that it is well with them; for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.11 Wo unto the wicked, for they shall perish; for the reward of their hands shall be upon them!12 And my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they who lead thee cause thee to err and destroy the way of thy paths.13 The Lord standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people.14 The Lord will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people and the princes thereof; for ye have eaten up the vineyard and the spoil of the poor in your houses.15 What mean ye? Ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor, saith the Lord God of Hosts.16 Moreover, the Lord saith: Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched-forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet-17 Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover their secret parts.18 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments, and cauls, and round tires like the moon;19 The chains and the bracelets, and the mufflers;20 The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the ear-rings;21 The rings, and nose jewels;22 The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping-pins;23 The glasses, and the fine linen, and hoods, and the veils.24 And it shall come to pass, instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle, a rent; and instead of well set hair, baldness; and instead of a stomacher, a girding of sackcloth; burning instead of beauty.25 Thy men shall fall by the sword and thy mighty in the war.26 And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she shall be desolate, and shall sit upon the ground.
