1 Eu, que também sou presbítero, dou agora conselhos aos outros presbíteros que estão entre vocês. Sou uma testemunha dos sofrimentos de Cristo e vou tomar parte na glória que será revelada. 2 Aconselho que cuidem bem do rebanho que Deus lhes deu e façam isso de boa vontade, como Deus quer, e não de má vontade. Não façam o seu trabalho para ganhar dinheiro, mas com o verdadeiro desejo de servir. 3 Não procurem dominar os que foram entregues aos cuidados de vocês, mas sejam um exemplo para o rebanho. 4 E, quando o Grande Pastor aparecer, vocês receberão a coroa gloriosa, que nunca perde o seu brilho.

5 E vocês, jovens, sejam obedientes aos mais velhos. Que todos prestem serviços uns aos outros com humildade, pois as Escrituras Sagradas dizem: "Deus é contra os orgulhosos, mas é bondoso com os humildes!" 6 Portanto, sejam humildes debaixo da poderosa mão de Deus para que ele os honre no tempo certo. 7 Entreguem todas as suas preocupações a Deus, pois ele cuida de vocês.

8 Estejam alertas e fiquem vigiando porque o inimigo de vocês, o Diabo, anda por aí como um leão que ruge, procurando alguém para devorar. 9 Fiquem firmes na fé e enfrentem o Diabo porque vocês sabem que no mundo inteiro os seus irmãos na fé estão passando pelos mesmos sofrimentos. 10 Mas, depois de sofrerem por um pouco de tempo, o Deus que tem por nós um amor sem limites e que chamou vocês para tomarem parte na sua eterna glória, por estarem unidos com Cristo, ele mesmo os aperfeiçoará e dará firmeza, força e verdadeira segurança. 11 A ele seja o poder para sempre! Amém!

12 Escrevo para vocês esta pequena carta com a ajuda de Silas, a quem eu considero um fiel irmão na fé. Quero animá-los e dar o meu testemunho de que as bênçãos que vocês têm recebido são uma prova verdadeira da graça de Deus. Continuem firmes, pois, nessa graça.

13 A igreja que está em Babilônia , escolhida também por Deus, manda saudações. O meu filho Marcos também manda saudações. 14 Cumprimentem uns aos outros com um beijo de irmão.

Que a paz esteja com todos vocês que pertencem a Cristo!

1 The elders who are among you I exhort (I am also an elder with them and a witness of the afflictions of the Christ, and also a participant of the glory that shall be revealed).

2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, caring for her, not by force, but willingly; not for shameful lucre, but with willing desire;

3 and not as having lordship over the heritage of the Lord, but in such a manner as to be examples of the flock.

4 And when the great Prince of the pastors shall appear, ye shall receive the incorruptible crown of glory.

5 Likewise, young people, be subject to the elders in such a manner that you are all subject to one another. Be clothed with humility of will, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time,

7 casting all your cares upon him, for he cares for you.

8 Be temperate and vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour,

9 resist him steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are to be accomplished in the company of your brethren that are in the world.

10 But the God of all grace, who has called us unto his eternal glory by Jesus, the Christ, after ye have suffered a little while, he himself perfects, confirms, strengthens, and establishes [you].

11 To him [be] glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother; (according to my reckoning) I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which ye stand.

13 The [church that is] at Babylon, chosen together with [you], salutes you and [so does] Mark, my son.

14 Greet one another with a kiss of charity. Peace [be] with you all that are in Jesus, the Christ. Amen.:
