59 Quando o menino estava com oito dias, vieram circuncidá-lo e queriam lhe dar o nome do pai, isto é, Zacarias. 60 Mas a sua mãe disse:

— Não. O nome dele vai ser João.

61 Então disseram:

— Mas você não tem nenhum parente com esse nome!

62 Aí fizeram sinais ao pai, perguntando que nome ele queria pôr no menino. 63 Zacarias pediu uma tabuinha de escrever e escreveu: "O nome dele é João." E todos ficaram muito admirados. 64 Nesse momento Zacarias pôde falar novamente e começou a louvar a Deus.

59 And it came to pass that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they called him Zacharias after the name of his father.

60 And his mother answered and said, Not [so], but he shall be called John.

61 And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.

62 And they communicated with signs to his father, [asking] how he would have him called.

63 And he asked for a writing table and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they all marvelled.

64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue [loosed], and he spoke blessing God.
