1 O Senhor Deus disse a Moisés:

— Vá falar com o rei e diga que o Senhor, o Deus dos hebreus, diz o seguinte: "Deixe que o meu povo saia do país a fim de me adorar. 2 Pois, se você não deixar e continuar impedindo que ele vá, 3 eu o castigarei com uma doença horrível, que atacará todos os seus animais, isto é, os cavalos, os jumentos, os camelos, o gado, as ovelhas e as cabras. 4 Farei diferença entre os animais dos israelitas e os dos egípcios, e não morrerá nenhum animal dos israelitas. 5 Eu, o Senhor, marquei um prazo: farei isso amanhã."

6 No dia seguinte o Senhor fez como tinha dito, e todos os animais dos egípcios morreram; porém não morreu nenhum dos animais dos israelitas. 7 O rei mandou ver o que havia acontecido e foi informado de que não havia morrido nenhum animal dos israelitas. Apesar disso o rei continuou teimando e não deixou o povo ir.

8 Então o Senhor Deus disse a Moisés e a Arão:

— Peguem punhados de cinza de um forno, e que Moisés jogue essa cinza para o ar diante do rei do Egito. 9 Ela se espalhará como um pó fino sobre toda a terra do Egito, e em todos os lugares a cinza produzirá tumores que se abrirão em úlceras nas pessoas e nos animais.

10 Assim, Moisés e Arão pegaram cinza e ficaram de pé na frente do rei. Moisés jogou a cinza para cima, e ela produziu tumores, que viraram úlceras nas pessoas e nos animais. 11 Os mágicos não puderam aparecer diante de Moisés porque eles e todos os outros egípcios estavam cobertos de tumores. 12 Porém o Senhor Deus fez com que o rei continuasse teimando. E, como o Senhor tinha dito a Moisés, o rei não atendeu o pedido de Moisés e Arão.

13 O Senhor Deus disse a Moisés:

— Amanhã cedo vá se encontrar com o rei e diga-lhe que o Senhor, o Deus dos hebreus, diz o seguinte: "Deixe que o meu povo saia do país a fim de me adorar. 14 Pois desta vez eu vou fazer todas as minhas pragas caírem sobre você, sobre os seus funcionários e sobre o seu povo, para que você fique sabendo que em todo o mundo não há ninguém como eu. 15 Se eu tivesse atacado você e o seu povo com doenças, você já teria sido completamente destruído. 16 Mas estou deixando que você viva para mostrar a você o meu poder e para fazer com que o meu nome seja conhecido no mundo inteiro. 17 Você ainda continua orgulhoso e não quer deixar o meu povo ir. 18 Porém amanhã a esta hora eu vou fazer cair uma chuva de pedra tão forte como nunca houve igual em toda a história do Egito. 19 Portanto, agora mande recolher o seu gado e tudo o que você tem no campo. Se as pessoas e os animais que estiverem no campo não forem para casa, quando cair a chuva de pedra, todos eles morrerão."

20 Alguns funcionários do rei ficaram com medo daquilo que o Senhor tinha dito e levaram os seus escravos e os seus animais para os abrigos. 21 Mas os que não deram atenção ao que o Senhor tinha dito deixaram os seus escravos e os seus animais nos campos.

22 Então o Senhor Deus disse a Moisés:

— Levante a mão para o céu, e cairá chuva de pedra em toda a terra do Egito. Cairá sobre o povo, sobre os animais e sobre todas as plantas do campo.

23 Moisés levantou o bastão para o céu, e o Senhor mandou trovões, chuva de pedra e raios sobre o país. Ele fez cair 24 uma pesada chuva de pedra sobre todo o Egito, e a chuva e os raios caíram sem parar. Essa foi a pior tempestade que o Egito já teve em toda a sua história. 25 Em todo o Egito a chuva de pedra acabou com tudo o que estava no campo, incluindo as pessoas e os animais. Destruiu todas as plantas e quebrou todas as árvores. 26 Somente na região de Gosém, onde estavam os israelitas, a chuva de pedra não caiu.

27 Então o rei mandou chamar Moisés e Arão e disse:

— Desta vez eu pequei. O Senhor Deus é justo; eu e o meu povo somos culpados. 28 Orem ao Senhor. Chega de trovões e de chuva de pedra! Eu os deixarei ir; vocês não precisam esperar mais.

29 Moisés respondeu:

— Quando sair da cidade, eu levantarei as mãos em oração a Deus, o Senhor. Os trovões vão parar, e não haverá mais chuva de pedra. Isso para que o senhor, ó rei, fique sabendo que a terra é de Deus. 30 Mas eu sei que o senhor e os seus funcionários ainda não temem a Deus, o Senhor.

31 O linho e a cevada foram destruídos, pois a cevada já estava com espigas, e o linho estava em flor. 32 Porém o trigo e o centeio não foram destruídos, pois ainda não haviam brotado.

33 Depois de ter estado com o rei, Moisés saiu da cidade e levantou as mãos em oração a Deus, o Senhor. Aí os trovões, a chuva e a chuva de pedra pararam. 34,35 Porém, quando o rei viu que tinha parado de chover e que não trovejava mais, nem caía chuva de pedra, ele tornou a pecar. Ele e os seus funcionários continuaram teimando. E, como o Senhor tinha dito por meio de Moisés, o rei não deixou que os israelitas fossem embora.

1 Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus says the LORD God ofthe Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.2 For if you refuse to let them go, and will hold them still,3 Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon your cattle which are in the field, upon the horses, upon the donkeys, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep: there shall be a very grievous plague.4 And the LORD shall make distinction between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt: and there shall nothing die of all belonging to the children of Israel.5 And the LORD appointed a set time, saying, Tomorrow the LORD shall do this thing in the land.6 And the LORD did that thing the next day, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel not one died.7 And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the people go.8 And the LORD said unto Moses and unto Aaron, Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the heaven in the sight of Pharaoh.9 And it shall become small dust in all the land of Egypt, and shall be boils breaking forth with sores upon man, and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt.10 And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became boils breaking forth with sores upon man, and upon beast.11 And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boils were upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.12 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken unto Moses.13 And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus says the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.14 For I will at this time send all my plagues upon your heart, and upon your servants, and upon your people; that you may know that there is none like me in all the earth.15 For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may smite you and your people with pestilence; and you shall be cut off from the earth.16 And indeed for this very cause have I raised you up, to show in you my power; and that myname may be declared throughout all the earth.17 And yet exalt you yourself against my people, that you will not let them go?18 Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as has not been in Egypt since the foundation of it even until now.19 Send therefore now, and gather your cattle, and all that you have in the field; for upon every man and beast that shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.20 He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses:21 And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.22 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth your hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.23 And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.24 So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.25 And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field.26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.27 And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.28 Entreat the LORD (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer.29 And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will stretch forth my hands unto the LORD; and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that you may know that the earth is the LORD's.30 But as for you and your servants, I know that you will not yet fear the LORD God.31 And the flax and the barley was smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was in bud.32 But the wheat and the spelt were not smitten: for they were not yet grown up.33 And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and stretched forth his hands unto the LORD: and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth.34 And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.35 And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, neither would he let the children of Israel go; as the LORD had spoken by Moses.
