1 A rainha de Sabá ouviu falar da fama de Salomão e foi até Jerusalém a fim de pô-lo à prova com perguntas difíceis. 2 Ela chegou com um grande grupo de servidores e também com camelos carregados de especiarias, pedras preciosas e uma grande quantidade de ouro. Quando se encontrou com Salomão, ela lhe fez todas as perguntas que pôde imaginar. 3 Ele respondeu a todas; não houve nenhuma que fosse difícil demais para ele responder. 4 A rainha de Sabá ouviu a sabedoria de Salomão e viu o palácio que ele havia construído. 5 Ela viu a comida que era servida na mesa dele, viu os apartamentos dos seus altos funcionários, a organização do pessoal que trabalhava no palácio e os uniformes que eles usavam. Viu os empregados que o serviam nas festas e os sacrifícios que ele oferecia no Templo. Isso tudo a deixou de boca aberta e muito admirada. 6 Então ela disse ao rei Salomão:

— Tudo aquilo que eu ouvi no meu país a respeito de você e da sua sabedoria é, de fato, verdade. 7 Porém eu não pude acreditar até que vim e vi com os meus próprios olhos. Acontece que não tinham me contado nem a metade. A sua sabedoria e a sua riqueza são muito maiores do que ouvi dizer. 8 Como são felizes as suas esposas! Que sorte têm os seus servidores, que estão sempre ao seu lado e têm o privilégio de ouvir os seus sábios provérbios! 9 Bendito seja o Senhor, seu Deus, que ficou tão contente com você, que o tornou rei de Israel! O amor dele por Israel é eterno; por isso, ele o tornou rei de Israel, para que você possa manter a lei e a justiça.

10 Ela entregou ao rei os presentes que havia trazido: mais de quatro mil quilos de ouro e uma grande quantidade de especiarias e pedras preciosas. Nunca mais veio uma quantidade tão grande de especiarias como a que a rainha de Sabá deu a Salomão.

11 (Os navios de Hirão, que haviam trazido ouro da terra de Ofir, também trouxeram de lá uma grande quantidade de madeira de sândalo e pedras preciosas. 12 Salomão usou a madeira para fazer corrimãos para o Templo e para o palácio e também fez harpas e liras para os músicos. Foi a primeira vez que se viu essa madeira em Israel, e até hoje nunca mais se viu ali madeira igual àquela.)

13 O rei Salomão deu à rainha de Sabá tudo o que ela quis e pediu, além de todos os outros presentes de costume. Então a rainha e os seus servidores voltaram para Sabá, a sua terra.

14 Todos os anos o rei Salomão recebia mais ou menos vinte e três mil quilos de ouro, 15 além dos impostos pagos pelos comerciantes, dos lucros do comércio e dos impostos pagos pelos reis árabes e pelos administradores dos vários distritos do país.

16 Salomão fez duzentos grandes escudos e mandou folhear cada um com quase sete quilos de ouro. 17 Também fez trezentos escudos menores e folheou cada um com quase dois quilos de ouro. Ele mandou colocar todos esses escudos no Salão da Floresta do Líbano .

18 Salomão também mandou fazer um grande trono, revestido de marfim e de ouro puro. 19,20 O trono tinha seis degraus, com a figura de um leão nas pontas de cada degrau, isto é, havia doze leões ao todo. Atrás do trono havia uma figura de cabeça de touro e no lado de cada um dos dois braços do trono havia a figura de um leão. Nunca havia existido em outro reino um trono como esse.

21 Todas as taças que o rei Salomão usava para beber eram de ouro, e todos os objetos do Salão da Floresta do Líbano eram de ouro puro. Não se usou prata porque no tempo de Salomão esse metal era considerado sem valor. 22 Salomão tinha uma frota de navios que viajava junto com a frota de Hirão. Cada três anos a sua frota voltava trazendo ouro, prata, marfim, macacos e micos.

23 O rei Salomão era mais rico e mais sábio do que qualquer outro rei, 24 e pessoas do mundo inteiro queriam ir ouvir a sabedoria que Deus lhe tinha dado. 25 Todos aqueles que chegavam traziam um presente para ele: objetos de prata e de ouro, roupas, armas, especiarias, cavalos e mulas. E foi assim ano após ano.

26 Salomão ajuntou mil e quatrocentos carros de guerra e doze mil cavalos de cavalaria. Espalhou uma parte deles por várias cidades e deixou o resto em Jerusalém. 27 Em Jerusalém, durante o seu reinado, a prata era tão comum como as pedras, e havia tantos cedros como as figueiras bravas que existem nas planícies de Judá. 28 Os agentes do rei controlavam a importação de cavalos de Musri e da Cilícia 29 e a importação de carros de guerra do Egito. Esses agentes forneciam cavalos e carros de guerra para os reis heteus e sírios, vendendo cada carro por seiscentas barras de prata e cada cavalo por cento e cinquenta barras de prata.

1 When the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the Lord, she came to prove him with hard questions.2 She came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bore spices, and very much gold, and precious stones; and when she had come to Solomon, she talked with him of all that was in her heart.3 Solomon told her all her questions: there was not anything hidden from the king which he did not tell her.4 When the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built,5 and the food of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their clothing, and his cup bearers, and his ascent by which he went up to the house of the Lord; there was no more spirit in her.6 She said to the king, "It was a true report that I heard in my own land of your acts, and of your wisdom.7 However I did not believe the words, until I came, and my eyes had seen it. Behold, the half was not told me! Your wisdom and prosperity exceed the fame which I heard.8 Happy are your men, happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you, who hear your wisdom.9 Blessed is the Lord your God, who delighted in you, to set you on the throne of Israel. Because the Lord loved Israel forever, therefore made he you king, to do justice and righteousness."10 She gave the king one hundred twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones. There came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.11 The navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of almug trees and precious stones.12 The king made of the almug trees pillars for the house of the Lord, and for the king's house, harps also and stringed instruments for the singers: there came no such almug trees, nor were seen, to this day.13 King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatever she asked, besides that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned, and went to her own land, she and her servants.14 Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred sixty-six talents of gold,15 besides that which the traders brought, and the traffic of the merchants, and of all the kings of the mixed people, and of the governors of the country.16 King Solomon made two hundred bucklers of beaten gold; six hundred shekels of gold went to one buckler.17 He made three hundred shields of beaten gold; three minas of gold went to one shield: and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.18 Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with the finest gold.19 There were six steps to the throne, and the top of the throne was round behind; and there were stays on either side by the place of the seat, and two lions standing beside the stays.20 Twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other on the six steps: there was nothing like it made in any kingdom.21 All king Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold: none were of silver; it was nothing accounted of in the days of Solomon.22 For the king had at sea a navy of Tarshish with the navy of Hiram: once every three years came the navy of Tarshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.23 So king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom.24 All the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.25 They brought every man his tribute, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and clothing, and armor, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.26 Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, that he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.27 The king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycamore trees that are in the lowland, for abundance.28 The horses which Solomon had were brought out of Egypt; and the king's merchants received them in droves, each drove at a price.29 A chariot came up and went out of Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for one hundred fifty; and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, they brought them out by their means.
