1 Moisés disse ao povo:

— Tenham o cuidado de obedecer a todas as leis que hoje eu estou dando a vocês, para que vocês vivam e se tornem mais numerosos, e entrem e tomem posse da terra que o Senhor Deus jurou dar aos nossos antepassados. 2 Lembrem como o nosso Deus guiou vocês pelo deserto esses quarenta anos. Durante essa longa caminhada, Deus os humilhou e os pôs à prova para saber se estavam resolvidos ou não a obedecer aos seus mandamentos. 3 Ele os deixou passar fome e depois lhes deu para comer o maná, uma comida que nem vocês nem os seus antepassados conheciam. Deus fez isso para que soubessem que o ser humano não vive só de pão, mas vive de tudo o que o Senhor Deus diz. 4 Durante esses quarenta anos as roupas que vocês vestiam não ficaram gastas, e os seus pés não ficaram inchados. 5 Fiquem sabendo que o Senhor, nosso Deus, os corrige como um pai corrige o filho. 6 Obedeçam, pois, aos seus mandamentos, vivam de acordo com os seus ensinamentos e temam o Senhor, seu Deus. 7 Pois ele os está levando para uma terra boa, cheia de rios, e ribeirões, e de fontes que jorram água pelos vales e pelas montanhas. 8 É uma terra que produz trigo e cevada, uvas, figos e romãs, azeite e mel. 9 É uma terra onde nunca faltará comida ou qualquer outra coisa para vocês, uma terra onde as pedras têm ferro e as montanhas têm minas de cobre. 10 Vocês terão toda a comida que precisarem e louvarão o Senhor, nosso Deus, pela boa terra que lhes deu.

11 — Nunca esqueçam o Senhor, nosso Deus, e tenham o cuidado de obedecer aos seus mandamentos e às suas leis, que hoje eu estou dando a vocês. 12 Naquela terra vocês terão toda a comida que quiserem; construirão casas boas, onde morarão; 13 o seu gado e os seus rebanhos aumentarão; vocês ajuntarão mais prata e ouro e terão tudo de sobra. 14 Então, tomem cuidado para não ficarem orgulhosos e esquecerem o Senhor, nosso Deus, que os tirou do Egito, onde vocês eram escravos. 15 Ele os levou por aquele enorme e perigoso deserto, cheio de cobras venenosas e de escorpiões, e onde não havia água. Mas no deserto Deus fez sair água da rocha bruta, para vocês beberem, 16 e lhes deu para comer o maná, uma comida que os seus antepassados não conheciam. Ele fez tudo isso para humilhá-los e para fazê-los passar por provas a fim de abençoá-los mais tarde.

17 — Portanto, não pensem que foi com a sua própria força e com o seu trabalho que vocês conseguiram todas essas riquezas. 18 Lembrem do Senhor, nosso Deus, pois é ele quem lhes dá força para poderem conseguir riquezas. Vocês estão vendo que assim ele está cumprindo a aliança feita por meio de juramento com os nossos antepassados. 19 Mas, se vocês esquecerem o Senhor, e adorarem e servirem outros deuses, eu aviso hoje que vocês certamente morrerão. 20 Se não obedecerem ao Senhor, nosso Deus, então vocês morrerão, como vão morrer os povos que Deus vai destruir na presença de vocês.

1 You shall observe to do all the commandment which I command you this day, that you may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the Lord swore to your fathers.2 You shall remember all the way which the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, to prove you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or not.3 He humbled you, and allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you did not know, neither did your fathers know; that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth God shall man live.4 Your clothing did not grow old on you, neither did your foot swell, these forty years.5 You shall consider in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you.6 You shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.7 For the Lord your God brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of springs, and underground water flowing into valleys and hills;8 a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig trees and pomegranates; a land of olive trees and honey;9 a land in which you shall eat bread without scarceness, you shall not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig copper.10 You shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which he has given you.11 Beware lest you forget the Lord your God, in not keeping his commandments, and his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command you this day:12 lest, when you have eaten and are full, and have built goodly houses, and lived therein;13 and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied;14 then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;15 who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty ground where there was no water; who brought you forth water out of the rock of flint;16 who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know; that he might humble you, and that he might prove you, to do you good at your latter end:17 and lest you say in your heart, "My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth."18 But you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth; that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as at this day.19 It shall be, if you shall forget the Lord your God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish.20 As the nations that the Lord makes to perish before you, so you shall perish; because you wouldn't listen to the voice of the Lord your God.
