1 O Senhor me disse o seguinte:

2 — Homem mortal, você está pronto para julgar a cidade que está cheia de assassinos? Mostre a ela todas as coisas vergonhosas que tem feito. 3 Conte a ela aquilo que eu, o Senhor Deus, estou dizendo: "Você, cidade assassina, matou muitas pessoas do seu próprio povo e se tornou impura fazendo ídolos e os adorando, e por isso o tempo do seu castigo está cada vez mais perto. 4 Você é culpada dessas mortes e se tornou impura por causa dos ídolos que fabricou, e por isso o seu dia está chegando, o seu tempo acabou. Foi por isso que deixei as outras nações caçoarem e zombarem de você. 5 Países de perto e de longe caçoam de você por ter fama de cidade de desordeiros. 6 Todas as autoridades de Israel confiam na sua própria força e cometem assassinatos. 7 Na cidade, ninguém honra o pai nem a mãe. Vocês maltratam os estrangeiros que moram no meio de vocês e exploram viúvas e órfãos. 8 Vocês não respeitam os lugares sagrados, nem guardam o sábado. 9 Uns dizem mentiras a respeito dos outros, que por causa disso são mortos. Alguns comem sacrifícios oferecidos aos ídolos. Outros estão sempre satisfazendo as suas paixões. 10 Outros têm relações sexuais com a mulher do seu próprio pai. Outros ainda obrigam mulheres que estão menstruadas a terem relações com eles. 11 Cometem adultério e seduzem as suas noras ou as suas meias-irmãs. 12 Alguns dos seus moradores matam por dinheiro. Outros emprestam dinheiro a juros e ficam ricos explorando os seus próprios irmãos israelitas. Eles esqueceram de mim. Sou eu, o Senhor Deus, quem está falando.

13 — "Vou acabar com as suas roubalheiras e com os seus crimes de morte. 14 Vocês pensam que ainda terão alguma coragem ou força bastante para levantar a mão quando eu acabar de agir contra vocês? Eu, o Senhor, estou falando e mantenho a minha palavra. 15 Espalharei o seu povo por todos os países e nações e porei um fim em todas as suas más ações. 16 Assim as outras nações olharão com nojo para vocês, e vocês saberão que eu sou o Senhor."

17 O Senhor me disse o seguinte:

18 — Homem mortal, os israelitas não têm valor para mim. Eles são como a mistura de cobre, estanho, ferro e chumbo que sobra depois que a prata é refinada na fornalha. 19 Agora, eu, o Senhor Deus, estou lhes dizendo que eles são tão inúteis como essa mistura. Reunirei todos em Jerusalém, 20 como se fossem minério de prata, cobre, ferro, chumbo e estanho jogados numa fornalha de refinação. A minha ira e o meu furor os derreterão assim como o fogo derrete o minério. 21 Sim! Eu os ajuntarei em Jerusalém, porei fogo debaixo deles e os derreterei com a minha ira. 22 Eles se derreterão em Jerusalém assim como a prata é derretida na fornalha e aí ficarão sabendo que eu, o Senhor, derramei sobre eles a minha ira.

23 O Senhor falou comigo de novo. Ele disse:

24 — Homem mortal, diga aos israelitas que a terra deles é impura e que eu os estou castigando por causa da minha ira. 25 As suas autoridades são como leões rugindo em cima dos animais que mataram. Matam as pessoas, tiram as suas propriedades e as suas riquezas e, por causa dos seus crimes de morte, deixam viúvas muitas mulheres. 26 Os sacerdotes desobedecem à minha Lei e não têm respeito por aquilo que é santo. Não fazem diferença entre o que é santo e o que não é. Não ensinam a diferença entre as coisas puras e as impuras e não respeitam o sábado. Como resultado disso, o povo de Israel não me respeita. 27 As autoridades são como lobos que despedaçam os animais que mataram. Matam para enriquecer. 28 Os profetas escondem esses pecados como quem pinta de branco uma parede. Eles têm visões falsas e fazem falsas profecias. Afirmam que falam a palavra do Senhor Deus, mas eu, o Senhor, não falei com eles. 29 Os ricos enganam e roubam. Eles maltratam os pobres e exploram estrangeiros.

30 — Procurei alguém que construísse uma muralha, alguém que ficasse nos lugares onde as muralhas desmoronaram e que defendesse a terra a fim de que a minha ira não a destruísse; porém não encontrei ninguém. 31 Por isso, farei cair o fogo da minha ira sobre eles e os destruirei como castigo pelo que eles têm feito. Eu, o Senhor Deus, falei.

1 Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying,2 "You, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? Then cause her to know all her abominations.3 You shall say, 'Thus says the Lord God: "A city that sheds blood in the midst of her, that her time may come, and that makes idols against herself to defile her!4 You have become guilty in your blood that you have shed, and are defiled in your idols which you have made; and you have caused your days to draw near, and have come even to your years: therefore have I made you a reproach to the nations, and a mocking to all the countries.5 Those who are near, and those who are far from you, shall mock you, you infamous one and full of tumult.6 "'"Behold, the princes of Israel, everyone according to his power, have been in you to shed blood.7 In you have they set light by father and mother; in the midst of you have they dealt by oppression with the foreigner; in you have they wronged the fatherless and the widow.8 You have despised my holy things, and have profaned my Sabbaths.9 Slanderous men have been in you to shed blood; and in you they have eaten on the mountains: in the midst of you they have committed lewdness.10 In you have they uncovered their fathers' nakedness; in you have they humbled her who was unclean in her impurity.11 One has committed abomination with his neighbor's wife; and another has lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law; and another in you has humbled his sister, his father's daughter.12 In you have they taken bribes to shed blood; you have taken interest and increase, and you have greedily gained of your neighbors by oppression, and have forgotten me,' says the Lord God.13 "'"Behold, therefore, I have struck my hand at your dishonest gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in the midst of you.14 Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with you? I, the Lord, have spoken it, and will do it.15 I will scatter you among the nations, and disperse you through the countries; and I will consume your filthiness out of you.16 You shall be profaned in yourself, in the sight of the nations; and you shall know that I am the Lord."'"17 The word of the Lord came to me, saying,18 "Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to me: all of them are brass and tin and iron and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are the dross of silver.19 Therefore thus says the Lord God: 'Because you have all become dross, therefore, behold, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.20 As they gather silver and brass and iron and lead and tin into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire on it, to melt it; so will I gather you in my anger and in my wrath, and I will lay you there, and melt you.21 Yes, I will gather you, and blow on you with the fire of my wrath, and you shall be melted in its midst.22 As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so you will be melted in its midst; and you will know that I, the Lord, have poured out my wrath on you.'"23 The word of the Lord came to me, saying,24 "Son of man, tell her, 'You are a land that is not cleansed, nor rained on in the day of indignation.'25 There is a conspiracy of her prophets in its midst, like a roaring lion ravening the prey: they have devoured souls; they take treasure and precious things; they have made her widows many in its midst.26 Her priests have done violence to my law, and have profaned my holy things: they have made no distinction between the holy and the common, neither have they caused men to discern between the unclean and the clean, and have hidden their eyes from my Sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.27 Her princes in its midst are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, that they may get dishonest gain.28 Her prophets have plastered for them with whitewash, seeing false visions, and divining lies to them, saying, 'Thus says the Lord God,' when the Lord has not spoken.29 The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery; yes, they have troubled the poor and needy, and have oppressed the foreigner wrongfully.30 "I sought for a man among them, who should build up the wall, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found none.31 Therefore have I poured out my indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I brought on their heads, says the Lord God."
