1 "Os deuses Bel e Nebo se inclinam e caem no chão.

Esses ídolos são colocados nas costas de animais de carga;

são um peso enorme para os animais cansados.

2 Os deuses se inclinam e caem;

eles não podem se salvar

e são levados pelos inimigos.

3 "Escute, povo de Israel;

escutem, todos os descendentes de Jacó que ficaram vivos!

Desde que vocês nasceram, eu os tenho carregado;

sempre cuidei de vocês.

4 E, quando ficarem velhos, eu serei o mesmo Deus;

cuidarei de vocês quando tiverem cabelos brancos.

Eu os criei e os carregarei;

eu os ajudarei e salvarei.

5 "Com quem é que vocês podem me comparar?

Quem é parecido comigo?

6 Há gente que pega uma boa porção do seu ouro

e uma enorme quantidade da sua prata

e paga um ourives para que com esse ouro e com essa prata

ele faça um deus.

E depois se ajoelham diante desse deus e o adoram.

7 Então carregam a imagem nas costas

e a colocam no seu lugar;

e ali ela fica, sem poder se mexer.

Se pedirem socorro à imagem, ela não atende;

ela não pode livrá-los das suas dificuldades.

8 "Pecadores, lembrem disso:

pensem bem e tenham juízo.

9 Lembrem do que aconteceu no passado

e reconheçam que só eu sou Deus,

que não há nenhum outro como eu.

10 Desde o princípio, anunciei as coisas do futuro;

há muito tempo, eu disse o que ia acontecer.

Afirmei que o meu plano seria cumprido,

que eu faria tudo o que havia resolvido fazer.

11 Estou chamando um homem para que venha do Oriente;

de um país distante, ele vem rápido como uma águia

para fazer o que eu ordeno.

Vou cumprir o que prometi;

vou fazer o que planejei.

12 "Gente teimosa, escute aqui!

Vocês pensam que a sua salvação vai demorar.

13 Mas eu vou fazer chegar logo a salvação que prometi;

ela não vai demorar,

e em breve eu conseguirei a vitória.

Eu salvarei os moradores de Sião

e repartirei com o povo de Israel a minha grandeza."

1 Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your loads were heavy; they were a burden to the weary beast.2 They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but themselves have gone into captivity.3 Hearken to me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the birth, which are carried from the womb:4 And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoary hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.5 To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?6 They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yes, they worship.7 They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove: yes, one shall cry to him, yet he cannot answer, nor save him out of his trouble.8 Remember this, and show yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors.9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:11 Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yes, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also perform it.12 Hearken to me, ye stout-hearted, that are far from righteousness:13 I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not delay: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.
