1 O rei Salomão amou muitas mulheres estrangeiras, além da filha do faraó. Eram mulheres moabitas, amonitas, edomitas, sidônias e hititas.2 Elas eram das nações sobre as quais o Senhor tinha dito aos israelitas: "Vocês não poderão tomar mulheres dentre essas nações, porque elas os farão desviar-se para seguir os seus deuses". No entanto, Salomão apegou-se amorosamente a elas.3 Casou com setecentas princesas e trezentas concubinas, e as suas mulheres o levaram a desviar-se.4 À medida que Salomão foi envelhecendo, suas mulheres o induziram a voltar-se para outros deuses, e o seu coração já não era totalmente dedicado ao Senhor, o seu Deus, como fora o coração do seu pai Davi.5 Ele seguiu os postes sagrados, a deusa dos sidônios, e Moloque, o repugnante deus dos amonitas.6 Dessa forma Salomão fez o que o Senhor reprova; não seguiu completamente o Senhor, como o seu pai Davi.7 No monte que fica a leste de Jerusalém, Salomão construiu um altar para Camos, o repugnante deus de Moabe, e para Moloque, o repugnante deus dos amonitas.8 Também fez altares para os deuses de todas as suas outras mulheres estrangeiras, que queimavam incenso e ofereciam sacrifícios a eles.9 O Senhor irou-se contra Salomão por ter-se desviado do Senhor, o Deus de Israel, que lhe havia aparecido duas vezes.10 Embora ele tivesse proibido Salomão de seguir outros deuses, Salomão não obedeceu à ordem do Senhor.11 Então o Senhor disse a Salomão: "Já que essa é a sua atitude e você não obedeceu à minha aliança e aos meus decretos, os quais lhe ordenei, certamente lhe tirarei o reino e o darei a um dos seus servos.12 No entanto, por amor a Davi, seu pai, não farei isso enquanto você viver. Eu o tirarei da mão do seu filho.13 Mas, não tirarei dele o reino inteiro, eu lhe darei uma tribo por amor de Davi, meu servo, e por amor de Jerusalém, a cidade que escolhi".14 Então o Senhor levantou contra Salomão um adversário, o edomita Hadade, da linhagem real de Edom.15 Anteriormente, quando Davi estava lutando contra Edom, Joabe, o comandante do exército, que tinha ido para lá enterrar os mortos, exterminara todos os homens de Edom.16 Joabe e todo o exército israelita permaneceram lá seis meses, até matarem todos os edomitas.17 Mas Hadade, sendo ainda um menino, fugiu para o Egito com alguns dos oficiais edomitas que tinham servido a seu pai.18 Partiram de Midiã e foram a Parã. Lá reuniram alguns homens e foram ao Egito, até o faraó, rei do Egito, que deu uma casa e terras a Hadade e lhe forneceu alimento.19 O faraó acolheu bem a Hadade, a ponto de dar-lhe em casamento uma irmã de sua própria mulher, a rainha Tafnes.20 A irmã de Tafnes deu-lhe um filho, chamado Genubate, que fora criado por Tafnes no palácio real. Ali Genubate viveu com os próprios filhos do faraó.21 Enquanto estava no Egito, Hadade soube que Davi tinha descansado com seus antepassados e que Joabe, o comandante do exército, também estava morto. Então Hadade disse ao faraó: "Deixa-me voltar para a minha terra".22 "O que lhe falta aqui para que você queira voltar para a sua terra? ", perguntou o faraó. "Nada me falta", respondeu Hadade, "mas deixa-me ir! "23 E Deus fez um outro adversário levantar-se contra Salomão: Rezom, filho de Eliada, que tinha fugido do seu senhor, Hadadezer, rei de Zobá.24 Quando Davi destruiu o exército de Zobá, Rezom reuniu alguns homens e tornou-se líder de um bando de rebeldes. Eles foram para Damasco, onde se instalaram e assumiram o controle.25 Rezom foi adversário de Israel enquanto Salomão viveu, e trouxe-lhe muitos problemas, além dos causados por Hadade. Assim Rezom governou a Síria e foi hostil para com Israel.26 Também Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, rebelou-se contra o rei. Ele era um dos oficiais de Salomão, um efraimita de Zeredá, e a sua mãe era uma viúva chamada Zerua.27 E foi assim que ele se revoltou contra o rei: Salomão tinha construído o Milo e havia tapado a abertura no muro da cidade de Davi, seu pai.28 Ora, Jeroboão era homem capaz, e, quando Salomão viu como ele fazia bem o seu trabalho, encarregou-o de todos os que faziam trabalho forçado, pertencentes às tribos de José.29 Naquela ocasião, Jeroboão saiu de Jerusalém, e Aías, o profeta de Siló, que estava usando uma capa nova, encontrou-se com ele no caminho. Os dois estavam sozinhos no campo,30 e Aías segurou firmemente a capa que estava usando e a rasgou em doze pedaços.31 Então disse a Jeroboão: "Apanhe dez pedaços para você, pois assim diz o Senhor, o Deus de Israel: ‘Saiba que vou tirar o reino das mãos de Salomão e dar a você dez tribos.32 Mas, por amor ao meu servo Davi e à cidade de Jerusalém, a qual escolhi dentre todas as tribos de Israel, ele terá uma tribo.33 Farei isso porque eles me abandonaram e adoraram os postes sagrados, deusa dos sidônios, Camos, deus dos moabitas, e Moloque, deus dos amonitas, e não andaram nos meus caminhos, nem fizeram o que eu aprovo, nem obedeceram aos meus decretos e as minhas ordenanças, como fez Davi, pai de Salomão.34 " ‘Mas não tirarei o reino todo das mãos de Salomão; eu o fiz governante todos os dias de sua vida por amor ao meu servo Davi, a quem escolhi e que obedeceu aos meus mandamentos e aos meus decretos.35 Tirarei o reino das mãos do seu filho e darei dez tribos a você.36 Darei uma tribo ao seu filho a fim de que o meu servo Davi sempre tenha diante de mim um descendente no trono em Jerusalém, a cidade onde eu quis pôr o meu nome.37 Quanto a você, eu o farei governar tudo o que o seu coração desejar; você será rei de Israel.38 Se você fizer tudo o que eu lhe ordenar e andar nos meus caminhos e fizer o que eu aprovo, obedecendo aos meus decretos e aos meus mandamentos, como fez o meu servo Davi, estarei com você. Edificarei para você uma dinastia tão permanente quanto a que edifiquei para Davi, e darei Israel a você.39 Humilharei os descendentes de Davi por causa disso, mas não para sempre’ ".40 Salomão tentou matar Jeroboão, mas ele fugiu para o Egito, para o rei Sisaque, e lá permaneceu até a morte de Salomão.41 Os demais acontecimentos do reinado de Salomão, tudo o que fez e a sabedoria que teve, estão todos escritos nos registros históricos de Salomão.42 Salomão reinou quarenta anos em Jerusalém sobre todo o Israel.43 Então descansou com os seus antepassados e foi sepultado na cidade de Davi, seu pai. E o seu filho Roboão foi o seu sucessor.

1 Now king Solomon loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites,2 of the nations concerning which LORD said to the sons of Israel, Ye shall not go among them, neither shall they come among you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods. Solomon clave to these in love.3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines. And his wives turned away his heart.4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods. And his heart was not perfect with LORD his God as was the heart of David his father.5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.6 And Solomon did that which was evil in the sight of LORD, and went not fully after LORD as did David his father.7 Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab on the mount that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the sons of Ammon.8 And so he did for all his foreign wives, who burnt incense and sacrificed to their gods.9 And LORD was angry with Solomon because his heart was turned away from LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,10 and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods. But he did not keep that which LORD commanded.11 Therefore LORD said to Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done by thee, and thou have not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.12 Notwithstanding I will not do it in thy days, for David thy father's sake, but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son.13 However I will not rend away all the kingdom, but I will give one tribe to thy son, for David my servant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen.14 And LORD raised up an adversary to Solomon, Hadad the Edomite. He was of the king's seed in Edom.15 For it came to pass, when David was in Edom, and Joab the captain of the army was gone up to bury the slain, and had smitten every male in Edom16 (for Joab and all Israel remained there six months until he had cut off every male in Edom),17 that Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites of his father's servants with him, to go into Egypt, Hadad being yet a little child.18 And they arose out of Midian, and came to Paran. And they took men with them out of Paran, and they came to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave him a house, and appointed him provisions, and gave him land.19 And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him to wife the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen.20 And the sister of Tahpenes bore him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh's house. And Genubath was in Pharaoh's house among the sons of Pharaoh.21 And when Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the army was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, Let me depart that I may go to my own country.22 Then Pharaoh said to him, But what have thou lacked with me, that, behold, thou seek to go to thine own country? And he answered, Nothing, however only let me depart.23 And God raised up [another] adversary to him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah.24 And he gathered men to him, and became captain over a troop when David killed them [of Zobah]. And they went to Damascus, and dwelt therein, and reigned in Damascus.25 And he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, besides the mischief that Hadad [did]. And he abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria.26 And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah, a servant of Solomon whose mother's name was Zeruah, a widow, he also lifted up his hand against the king.27 And this was the reason why he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breach of the city of David his father.28 And the man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor. And Solomon saw the young man that he was industrious, and he gave him charge over all the labor of the house of Joseph.29 And it came to pass at that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him in the way. Now [Ahijah] had clad himself with a new garment, and the two were alone in the field.30 And Ahijah laid hold of the new garment that was on him, and tore it in twelve pieces.31 And he said to Jeroboam, Take thee ten pieces, for thus says LORD, the God of Israel, Behold, I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to thee32 (but he shall have one tribe, for my servant David's sake and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel),33 because that they have forsaken me, and have worshipped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the sons of Ammon. And they have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in my34 However I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand, but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for David my servant's sake whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my statutes.35 But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand, and will give it to thee, even ten tribes.36 And I will give one tribe to his son, that David my servant may have a lamp always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for me to put my name there.37 And I will take thee, and thou shall reign according to all that thy soul desires, and shall be king over Israel.38 And it shall be, if thou will hearken to all that I command thee, and will walk in my ways, and do that which is right in my eyes, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did. That I will be with thee, and will39 And for this I will afflict the seed of David, but not forever.40 Solomon therefore sought to kill Jeroboam. But Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.41 Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon?42 And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.43 And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father. And Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.
