1 Tendo terminado de dizer tudo isso ao povo, Jesus entrou em Cafarnaum.2 Ali estava doente, quase à morte, o servo de um centurião, a quem seu senhor estimava muito.3 Ele ouviu falar de Jesus e enviou-lhe alguns líderes religiosos dos judeus, pedindo-lhe que fosse curar o seu servo.4 Chegando-se a Jesus, suplicaram-lhe com insistência: "Este homem merece que lhe faças isso,5 porque ama a nossa nação e construiu a nossa sinagoga".6 Jesus foi com eles. Já estava perto da casa quando o centurião mandou amigos dizerem a Jesus: "Senhor, não te incomodes, pois não mereço receber-te debaixo do meu teto.7 Por isso, nem me considerei digno de ir ao teu encontro. Mas dize uma palavra, e o meu servo será curado.8 Pois eu também sou homem sujeito a autoridade, e com soldados sob o meu comando. Digo a um: ‘Vá’, e ele vai; e a outro: ‘Venha’, e ele vem. Digo a meu servo: ‘Faça isto’, e ele faz".9 Ao ouvir isso, Jesus admirou-se dele e, voltando-se para a multidão que o seguia, disse: "Eu lhes digo que nem em Israel encontrei tamanha fé".10 Então os homens que haviam sido enviados voltaram para casa e encontraram o servo restabelecido.11 Logo depois, Jesus foi a uma cidade chamada Naim, e com ele iam os seus discípulos e uma grande multidão.12 Ao se aproximar da porta da cidade, estava saindo o enterro do filho único de uma viúva; e uma grande multidão da cidade estava com ela.13 Ao vê-la, o Senhor se compadeceu dela e disse: "Não chore".14 Depois, aproximou-se e tocou no caixão, e os que o carregavam pararam. Jesus disse: "Jovem, eu lhe digo, levante-se! "15 Ele se levantou, sentou-se e começou a conversar, e Jesus o entregou à sua mãe.16 Todos ficaram cheios de temor e louvavam a Deus. "Um grande profeta se levantou entre nós", diziam eles. "Deus interveio em favor do seu povo".17 Essas notícias sobre Jesus espalharam-se por toda a Judéia e regiões circunvizinhas.18 Os discípulos de João contaram-lhe todas essas coisas. Um profeta? Sim, eu lhes digo, e mais que profeta.27 Este é aquele a respeito de quem está escrito: ‘Enviarei o meu mensageiro à tua frente; ele preparará o teu caminho diante de ti’.28 Eu lhes digo que entre os que nasceram de mulher não há ninguém maior do que João; todavia, o menor no Reino de Deus é maior do que ele".29 Todo o povo, até os publicanos, ouvindo as palavras de Jesus, reconheceram que o caminho de Deus era justo, sendo batizados por João.30 Mas os fariseus e os peritos na lei rejeitaram o propósito de Deus para eles, não sendo batizados por João.31 "A que posso, pois, comparar os homens desta geração? ", prosseguiu Jesus. "Com que se parecem?32 São como crianças que ficam sentadas na praça e gritam umas às outras: ‘Nós lhes tocamos flauta, mas vocês não dançaram; cantamos um lamento, mas vocês não choraram’.33 Pois veio João Batista, que jejua e não bebe vinho, e vocês dizem: ‘Ele tem demônio’.34 Veio o Filho do homem, comendo e bebendo, e vocês dizem: ‘Aí está um comilão e beberrão, amigo de publicanos e "pecadores" ’.35 Mas a sabedoria é comprovada por todos os seus discípulos".36 Convidado por um dos fariseus para jantar, Jesus foi à casa dele e reclinou-se à mesa.37 Ao saber que Jesus estava comendo na casa do fariseu, certa mulher daquela cidade, uma ‘pecadora’, trouxe um frasco de alabastro com perfume,38 e se colocou atrás de Jesus, a seus pés. Chorando, começou a molhar-lhe os pés com as suas lágrimas. Depois os enxugou com seus cabelos, beijou-os e os ungiu com o perfume.39 Ao ver isso, o fariseu que o havia convidado disse a si mesmo: "Se este homem fosse profeta, saberia quem nele está tocando e que tipo de mulher ela é: uma ‘pecadora’ ".40 Respondeu-lhe Jesus: "Simão, tenho algo a lhe dizer". "Dize, Mestre", disse ele.41 "Dois homens deviam a certo credor. Um lhe devia quinhentos denários e o outro, cinqüenta.42 Nenhum dos dois tinha com que lhe pagar, por isso perdoou a dívida a ambos. Qual deles o amará mais? "43 Simão respondeu: "Suponho que aquele a quem foi perdoada a dívida maior". "Você julgou bem", disse Jesus.44 Em seguida, virou-se para a mulher e disse a Simão: "Vê esta mulher? Entrei em sua casa, mas você não me deu água para lavar os pés; ela, porém, molhou os meus pés com as suas lágrimas e os enxugou com os seus cabelos.45 Você não me saudou com um beijo, mas esta mulher, desde que entrei aqui, não parou de beijar os meus pés.46 Você não ungiu a minha cabeça com óleo, mas ela derramou perfume nos meus pés.47 Portanto, eu lhe digo, os muitos pecados dela lhe foram perdoados, pelo que ela amou muito. And I say to this man, Go, and he goes, and to another, Come, and he comes, and to my bondman, Do this, and he does.9 And when Jesus heard these things, he marveled him, and having turned around to the multitude who followed him, he said, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.10 And those who were sent, having returned to the house, found the bondman who was feeble, being well.11 And it came to pass on the next day that he went to a city called Nain, and a considerable number of his disciples went with him, also a large multitude.12 Now when he came near to the gate of the city, behold, an only begotten son who died was being carried out for his mother. And she was a widow, and a considerable crowd of the city were with her.13 And when the Lord saw her, he felt compassion toward her, and said to her, Weep not.14 And having come, he touched the coffin, and the men carrying it stood still. And he said, Young man, I say to thee, arise.15 And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.16 And fear seized all. And they glorified God, saying, A great prophet has been raised among us, and, God came to help his people.17 And this report about him went forth in the whole of Judea, and in all the region around.18 And the disciples of John informed him about all these things.19 And having summoned a certain two of his disciples, John sent them to Jesus, saying, Are thou he who comes, or do we look for another man?20 And when they came to him, they said, John the immerser has sent us to thee, saying, Are thou he who comes, or do we look for another man?21 And in the same hour he healed many from diseases and plagues and evil spirits. And he granted sight to many blind men.22 And having answered, Jesus said to them, After going, report to John the things that ye saw and heard: the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor are preached good-new23 And blessed is he, whoever will not be offended by me.24 And after John's messengers departed, he began to say to the multitudes about John, What did ye go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?25 But what did ye go out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, those in elegant clothing, and existing in luxury, are in kingly places.26 But what did ye go out to see? A prophet? Yea, I say to you, and much more than a prophet.27 This is he about whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who will prepare thy way before thee.28 For I say to you, among men born of women there is not one prophet greater than John the immerser, yet the smaller in the kingdom of God is greater than he.29 And all the people having heard, and the tax collectors who were immersed the immersion of John, justified God.30 But the Pharisees and the lawyers who were not immersed by him, rejected the purpose of God for themselves.31 To what, then will I compare the men of this generation, and to what are they like?32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace, and calling to each other, and saying, We piped to you, and ye did not dance. We mourned to you, and ye did not weep.33 For John the immerser has come neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and ye say, He has a demon.34 The Son of man has come eating and drinking, and ye say, Behold the man, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!35 And wisdom is justified from all her children.36 And a certain man of the Pharisees asked him that he would eat with him. And having entered into the Pharisee's house, he sat down.37 And behold, a woman in the city who was sinful. And when she knew that he sat in the Pharisee's house, having brought an alabaster cruse of ointment,38 and having stood behind near his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with the tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head. And she kissed his feet much, and anointed them with the ointment.39 But when the Pharisee who invited him saw it, he spoke within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would know who and what kind the woman is who touches him, that she is sinful.40 And having responded, Jesus said to him, Simon, I have something to say to thee. And he says, speak Teacher.41 There were two debtors to a certain creditor, the one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.42 And of them not having to repay, he forgave them both. Which of them therefore, do thou say, will love him more?43 And having answered, Simon said, I suppose that it was to whom he forgave more. And he said to him, Thou have judged correctly.44 And having turned to the woman, he said to Simon, See thou this woman? I entered into thy house; thou gave no water for my feet. But this woman has wet my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.45 Thou gave me no kiss, but this woman, since I came in, has not ceased kissing my feet much.46 Thou did not anoint my head with olive oil, but this woman has anointed my feet with ointment.47 For this reason I say to thee, her many sins are forgiven, because she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, loves little.48 And he said to her, Thy sins are forgiven.49 And those who sat together began to say within themselves, Who is this who even forgives sins?50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith has saved thee. Go in peace.
