O dom de línguas e o de profecia

1 Sigam o amor e busquem com dedicação os dons espirituais, principalmente o de profecia. 2 Pois quem fala em línguas*14.2 Ou outros idiomas; também em todo o capítulo 14. não fala por intermédio de homens, mas de Deus. De fato, ninguém o entende; pelo espírito, fala mistérios. 3 Mas quem profetiza o faz para edificação, encorajamento e consolação dos homens. 4 Quem fala em línguas edifica a si mesmo, mas quem profetiza edifica a igreja. 5 Desejo que todos vocês falem em línguas, mas prefiro que profetizem. Quem profetiza é maior do que aquele que fala em línguas, a não ser que as interprete, para que a igreja seja edificada.

6 Agora, irmãos, se eu for visitá-los e falar em línguas, em que serei útil a vocês, a não ser que leve alguma revelação, ou conhecimento, ou profecia, ou ensino? 7 Até no caso de coisas inanimadas que emitem sons, tais como a flauta ou a harpa, como alguém reconhecerá o que está sendo tocado se os sons não forem distintos? 8 Além disso, se a trombeta não emitir um som claro, quem se preparará para a batalha? 9 Assim acontece com vocês. Se não proferirem palavras compreensíveis com a língua, como alguém saberá o que está sendo dito? Vocês estarão simplesmente falando ao ar. 10 Sem dúvida, há diversos idiomas no mundo, e nenhum deles é sem sentido. 11 Portanto, se eu não entender o significado do que alguém fala, serei estrangeiro para quem fala, e ele será estrangeiro para mim. 12 Assim acontece com vocês. Visto que estão ansiosos por terem dons espirituais, procurem crescer naqueles que trazem edificação para a igreja.

13 Por isso, quem fala em línguas ore para que possa interpretá-las. 14 Pois, se oro em línguas, o meu espírito ora, mas a minha mente fica infrutífera. 15 Então, que farei? Orarei com o espírito, mas também orarei com o entendimento; cantarei com o espírito, mas também cantarei com o entendimento. 16 Se você estiver louvando a Deus em espírito, como poderá aquele que está entre os não instruídos dizer "amém" à sua ação de graças, visto que não sabe o que você está dizendo? 17 Nesse caso, você dá graças corretamente, mas o outro não é edificado.

18 Dou graças a Deus por falar em línguas mais do que todos vocês. 19 No entanto, na igreja prefiro falar cinco palavras compreensíveis para instruir os outros a falar dez mil palavras em línguas.

20 Irmãos, não sejam como crianças no modo de pensar. Com respeito ao mal, sejam como as crianças, mas, quanto ao modo de pensar, sejam maduros. 21 Pois está escrito na lei:

"Por meio de homens de outras línguas

e por meio de lábios de estrangeiros

falarei a este povo,

mas, mesmo assim, eles não me ouvirão",*14.21 Is 28.11,12.

diz o Senhor.

22 Portanto, as línguas são um sinal de condenação para os descrentes, não para os que creem; a profecia, porém, é para os que creem, não para os descrentes. 23 Assim, se toda a igreja se reunir e falar em línguas, e alguns não instruídos ou descrentes entrarem, não dirão que vocês estão loucos? 24 Mas, quando todos estiverem profetizando e entrar ali algum descrente ou não instruído, ele será convencido do pecado e julgado por todos, 25 e os segredos do seu coração serão expostos. Assim, ele se prostrará e adorará a Deus, exclamando: "Deus realmente está entre vocês!".

Ordem no culto

26 Portanto, que diremos, irmãos? Quando vocês se reúnem, um tem salmo, um tem ensino, um tem revelação, um fala em línguas e um tem a interpretação. Tudo seja feito para a edificação da igreja. 27 Se, porém, alguém falar em línguas, devem falar dois, no máximo três, um de cada vez, e alguém deve interpretar. 28 Se não houver intérprete, fique calado na igreja, falando consigo mesmo e com Deus.

29 Quanto aos profetas, que falem dois ou três, e os outros julguem cuidadosamente o que foi dito. 30 Se vier uma revelação a alguém que está sentado, cale-se o primeiro. 31 Pois vocês todos podem profetizar, cada um por sua vez, de forma que todos sejam instruídos e encorajados. 32 O espírito dos profetas está sujeito aos profetas. 33 Pois Deus não é Deus de desordem, mas de paz.

Como em todas as congregações dos santos, 34 que as mulheres permaneçam em silêncio nas igrejas, pois não lhes é permitido falar; antes, permaneçam em submissão, como diz a lei. 35 Se quiserem aprender alguma coisa, que perguntem ao próprio marido em casa, pois é vergonhoso uma mulher falar na igreja.

36 Acaso a palavra de Deus procedeu de vocês? São vocês os únicos alcançados por ela? 37 Se alguém pensa que é profeta ou espiritual, reconheça que é mandamento do Senhor o que estou escrevendo a vocês. 38 Mas, se alguém ignorar isso, ele mesmo será ignorado.*14.38 Há manuscritos que trazem Mas, se ele ignora isso, deixe-o ignorar.

39 Portanto, meus irmãos, busquem com dedicação o profetizar e não proíbam que se fale em línguas. 40 Tudo, porém, deve ser feito com decência e ordem.

1 Follow after love; yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. 2 For he that speaketh in a tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God; for no man understandeth; but in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men edification, and exhortation, and consolation. 4 He that speaketh in a tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. 5 Now I would have you all speak with tongues, but rather that ye should prophesy: and greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying. 6 But now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophesying, or of teaching? 7 Even things without life, giving a voice, whether pipe or harp, if they give not a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? 8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain voice, who shall prepare himself for war? 9 So also ye, unless ye utter by the tongue speech easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye will be speaking into the air. 10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and no kind is without signification. 11 If then I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be to him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh will be a barbarian unto me. 12 So also ye, since ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may abound unto the edifying of the church. 13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in a tongue pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 16 Else if thou bless with the spirit, how shall he that filleth the place of the unlearned say the Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he knoweth not what thou sayest? 17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified. 18 I thank God, I speak with tongues more than you all: 19 howbeit in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

20 Brethren, be not children in mind: yet in malice be ye babes, but in mind be men. 21 In the law it is written, By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers will I speak unto this people; and not even thus will they hear me, saith the Lord. 22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to the unbelieving: but prophesying is for a sign, not to the unbelieving, but to them that believe. 23 If therefore the whole church be assembled together and all speak with tongues, and there come in men unlearned or unbelieving, will they not say that ye are mad? 24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one unbelieving or unlearned, he is reproved by all, he is judged by all; 25 the secrets of his heart are made manifest; and so he will fall down on his face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed.

26 What is it then, brethren? When ye come together, each one hath a psalm, hath a teaching, hath a revelation, hath a tongue, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. 27 If any man speaketh in a tongue, let it be by two, or at the most three, and that in turn; and let one interpret: 28 but if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. 29 And let the prophets speak by two or three, and let the others discern. 30 But if a revelation be made to another sitting by, let the first keep silence. 31 For ye all can prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be exhorted; 32 and the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets; 33 for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace.

As in all the churches of the saints, 34 let the women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as also saith the law. 35 And if they would learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home: for it is shameful for a woman to speak in the church. 36 What? was it from you that the word of God went forth? or came it unto you alone?

37 If any man thinketh himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him take knowledge of the things which I write unto you, that they are the commandment of the Lord. 38 But if any man is ignorant, let him be ignorant.

39 Wherefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. 40 But let all things be done decently and in order.
