Isaías 14

1 O Senhor terá compaixão de Jacó

e voltará a escolher Israel,

estabelecendo-os na sua própria terra.

Os estrangeiros se juntarão a eles

e farão parte da descendência de Jacó.

2 Povos os apanharão

e os levarão ao seu próprio lugar.

E a descendência de Israel possuirá os povos

como servos e servas na terra do Senhor.

Farão prisioneiros os seus captores

e dominarão sobre os seus opressores.

3 No dia em que o Senhor der descanso do sofrimento, da perturbação e da cruel escravidão que sobre você foi imposta, 4 você pronunciará esta sátira sobre o rei da Babilônia:

Como chegou ao fim o opressor!

A sua arrogância*14.4 Conforme os manuscritos do mar Morto, a Septuaginta e a Versão Siríaca. acabou!

5 O Senhor quebrou a vara dos ímpios,

o cetro dos governantes,

6 que, irados, feriram os povos

com golpes incessantes

e, enfurecidos, subjugaram as nações

com perseguição implacável.

7 Toda a terra descansa tranquila.

Todos irrompem em gritos de alegria.

8 Até os juníperos e os cedros do Líbano

se alegram por sua causa e dizem:

"Agora que você foi derrubado,

nenhum lenhador vem nos derrubar!".

9 Nas profundezas, o Sheol*14.9 Essa palavra também pode ser traduzida por sepultura, profundezas ou morte; também nos versículos 11 e 15. se agita

para receber você quando chegar.

Por sua causa, ele desperta o espírito dos mortos,

todos os governantes da terra.*14.9 A Septuaginta traz todos os gigantes que governaram a terra.

Ele faz que se levantem do trono

todos os reis dos povos.

10 Todos responderão e dirão:

"Você também perdeu as forças como nós

e tornou-se como um de nós!".

11 A sua soberba foi lançada na sepultura,

com o som das suas liras;

a sua cama é de larvas,

e a sua coberta, de vermes.

12 Como você caiu dos céus,

ó estrela da manhã, filho da alvorada!

Como foi atirado à terra,

você, que derrubava as nações!

13 Você, que dizia no seu coração:

"Subirei aos céus,

erguerei o meu trono

acima das estrelas de Deus;

eu me assentarei no monte da assembleia,

no ponto mais elevado do monte santo.*14.13 Ou alto do norte. Hebraico: zafon.

14 Subirei acima das mais altas nuvens;

serei como o Altíssimo".

15 Mas à sepultura você será lançado

e às profundezas da cova!

16 Os que olham para você admiram-se da sua situação

e a seu respeito ponderam:

"É esse o homem que fazia a terra tremer

e que abalava os reinos?

17 O homem que fazia do mundo um deserto

que arrasava cidades

e não deixava que os seus prisioneiros voltassem para casa?".

18 Todos os reis das nações, todos eles, jazem honrosamente,

cada um no seu túmulo.

19 Mas você é atirado fora do seu túmulo,

como um renovo repugnante;

você está coberto com os mortos,

com os que foram feridos à espada;

como os que descem às pedras da cova.

Como um cadáver pisoteado,

20 você não se unirá a eles na sepultura,

porque destruiu a sua própria terra

e matou o seu próprio povo.

Nunca se mencione

a descendência dos malfeitores!

21 Preparem um local para matar os filhos dele

por causa da iniquidade dos seus antepassados;

para que eles não se levantem para herdar a terra

e encham o mundo de cidades.

22 "Eu me levantarei contra eles",

declara o Senhor dos Exércitos.

"Eliminarei da Babilônia o seu nome e os seus sobreviventes,

a sua prole e os seus descendentes",

declara o Senhor.

23 "Farei dela um lugar para corujas

e uma terra pantanosa;

vou varrê-la com a vassoura da destruição",

declara o Senhor dos Exércitos.

Profecia contra a Assíria

24 O Senhor dos Exércitos jurou:

"Certamente, como planejei, assim acontecerá,

e, como pensei, assim será.

25 Esmagarei a Assíria na minha terra;

nos meus montes, a pisotearei.

O seu jugo será tirado do meu povo,

e o seu fardo, dos ombros dele".

26 Este é o plano estabelecido para toda a terra;

esta é a mão estendida sobre todas as nações.

27 Porque este é o propósito do Senhor dos Exércitos;

quem pode impedi-lo?

A sua mão está estendida;

quem pode fazê-la recuar?

Profecia contra os filisteus

28 Esta advertência veio no ano em que o rei Acaz morreu:

29 Vocês, filisteus, todos vocês, não se alegrem

porque a vara que os feria está quebrada!

Da raiz da cobra brotará uma víbora,

e o seu fruto será uma serpente veloz.

30 O mais pobre dos pobres achará pastagem,

e os necessitados descansarão em segurança.

Mas eu matarei de fome a raiz de vocês,

e ela matará os seus sobreviventes.

31 Lamente, ó porta! Clame, ó cidade!

Derretam-se todos vocês, filisteus!

Do norte vem uma nuvem de fumaça,

e ninguém desertou das suas fileiras.

32 Que resposta se dará

aos emissários daquela nação?

Esta: "O Senhor estabeleceu Sião,

e nela encontrarão refúgio os aflitos do seu povo".

1 For Jehovah will have compassion on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the sojourner shall join himself with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob. 2 And the peoples shall take them, and bring them to their place; and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of Jehovah for servants and for handmaids: and they shall take them captive whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.

3 And it shall come to pass in the day that Jehovah shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy trouble, and from the hard service wherein thou wast made to serve, 4 that thou shalt take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased! 5 Jehovah hath broken the staff of the wicked, the sceptre of the rulers; 6 that smote the peoples in wrath with a continual stroke, that ruled the nations in anger, with a persecution that none restrained. 7 The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing. 8 Yea, the fir-trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid low, no hewer is come up against us. 9 Sheol from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming; it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10 All they shall answer and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? 11 Thy pomp is brought down to Sheol, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and worms cover thee.

12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O day-star, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, that didst lay low the nations! 13 And thou saidst in thy heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; and I will sit upon the mount of congregation, in the uttermost parts of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to Sheol, to the uttermost parts of the pit. 16 They that see thee shall gaze at thee, they shall consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; 17 that made the world as a wilderness, and overthrew the cities thereof; that let not loose his prisoners to their home? 18 All the kings of the nations, all of them, sleep in glory, every one in his own house. 19 But thou art cast forth away from thy sepulchre like an abominable branch, clothed with the slain, that are thrust through with the sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a dead body trodden under foot. 20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, thou hast slain thy people; the seed of evil-doers shall not be named for ever.

21 Prepare ye slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers, that they rise not up, and possess the earth, and fill the face of the world with cities. 22 And I will rise up against them, saith Jehovah of hosts, and cut off from Babylon name and remnant, and son and son’s son, saith Jehovah. 23 I will also make it a possession for the porcupine, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith Jehovah of hosts.

24 Jehovah of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely, as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: 25 that I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulder. 26 This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth; and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations. 27 For Jehovah of hosts hath purposed, and who shall annul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

28 In the year that king Ahaz died was this burden.

29 Rejoice not, O Philistia, all of thee, because the rod that smote thee is broken; for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth an adder, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent. 30 And the first-born of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety; and I will kill thy root with famine, and thy remnant shall be slain. 31 Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou art melted away, O Philistia, all of thee; for there cometh a smoke out of the north, and there is no straggler in his ranks.

32 What then shall one answer the messengers of the nation? That Jehovah hath founded Zion, and in her shall the afflicted of his people take refuge.
