A tentação de Jesus

1 Em seguida, Jesus foi levado pelo Espírito ao deserto para ser tentado pelo Diabo. 2 Depois de jejuar quarenta dias e quarenta noites, teve fome. 3 O tentador aproximou-se dele e disse:

— Se és o Filho de Deus, ordena que estas pedras se transformem em pães.

4 Jesus respondeu:

— Está escrito: "Nem só de pão viverá o homem, mas de toda palavra que procede da boca de Deus".*4.4 Dt 8.3.

5 Então, o Diabo o levou à cidade santa, colocou-o na parte mais alta do templo 6 e lhe disse:

— Se és o Filho de Deus, joga-te daqui para baixo. Pois está escrito:

"Ele dará ordem aos anjos dele a seu respeito;

com as mãos eles o segurarão,

para que você não tropece em alguma pedra".*4.6 Sl 91.11,12.

7 Jesus respondeu:

— Também está escrito: "Não ponha à prova o Senhor, o seu Deus".*4.7 Dt 6.16.

8 Depois, o Diabo o levou a um monte muito alto e mostrou-lhe todos os reinos do mundo e a glória deles. 9 Ele disse:

— Tudo isto te darei se, prostrado, me adorares.

10 Então, Jesus lhe disse:

— Retire-se, Satanás! Pois está escrito: "Adore ao Senhor, o seu Deus, e só a ele preste culto".*4.10 Dt 6.13.

11 Assim, o Diabo o deixou, e imediatamente os anjos vieram e o serviram.

Jesus começa a pregar

12 Quando Jesus ouviu que João tinha sido preso, retirou-se para a Galileia. 13 Deixando Nazaré, foi viver em Cafarnaum, que ficava junto ao mar, na região de Zebulom e Naftali, 14 para cumprir o que fora dito pelo profeta Isaías:

15 "Terra de Zebulom

e terra de Naftali,

caminho do mar,

além do Jordão,

Galileia dos gentios.*4.15 Isto é, os não judeus.

16 O povo que vivia nas trevas

viu uma grande luz;

sobre os que viviam

na terra da sombra da morte

raiou uma luz".*4.15,16 Is 9.1,2.

17 A partir desse dia, Jesus começou a pregar:

— Arrependam-se, pois o reino dos céus está próximo.

Jesus chama os primeiros discípulos

18 Enquanto andava às margens do mar da Galileia, Jesus viu dois irmãos: Simão, chamado Pedro, e André. Eles estavam lançando redes ao mar, pois eram pescadores. 19 Então, Jesus lhes disse:

— Sigam-me, e eu os farei pescadores de homens.

20 No mesmo instante, eles deixaram as redes e o seguiram.

21 Indo adiante, viu outros dois irmãos: Tiago e João, filhos de Zebedeu. Eles estavam no barco com Zebedeu, o seu pai, preparando as redes. Jesus os chamou, 22 e eles, deixando imediatamente o barco e o pai, o seguiram.

Jesus cura os enfermos

23 Jesus percorreu toda a região da Galileia, ensinando nas sinagogas, pregando o evangelho do reino e curando todas as enfermidades e doenças no meio do povo. 24 Notícias sobre ele se espalharam por toda a Síria, e o povo lhe trazia todos os que sofriam de vários males e tormentos: endemoniados, epiléticos e paralíticos; e ele os curava. 25 Grandes multidões o seguiam, vindas da Galileia, de Decápolis, de Jerusalém, da Judeia e da região do outro lado do Jordão.

1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he afterward hungered. 3 And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 5 Then the devil taketh him into the holy city; and he set him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and saith unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written,

He shall give his angels charge concerning thee:

and,

On their hands they shall bear thee up,

Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, Again it is written, Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God. 8 Again, the devil taketh him unto an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 and he said unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth him; and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

12 Now when he heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee; 13 and leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali: 14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,

15 The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,

Toward the sea, beyond the Jordan,

Galilee of the Gentiles,

16 The people that sat in darkness

Saw a great light,

And to them that sat in the region and shadow of death,

To them did light spring up.

17 From that time began Jesus to preach, and to say, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

18 And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brethren, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishers. 19 And he saith unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20 And they straightway left the nets, and followed him. 21 And going on from thence he saw two other brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. 22 And they straightway left the boat and their father, and followed him.

23 And Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness among the people. 24 And the report of him went forth into all Syria: and they brought unto him all that were sick, holden with divers diseases and torments, possessed with demons, and epileptic, and palsied; and he healed them. 25 And there followed him great multitudes from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judæa and from beyond the Jordan.
