O reinado de Azarias, rei de Judá

1 No vigésimo sétimo ano do reinado de Jeroboão, rei de Israel, Azarias,*15.1 Também chamado Uzias. filho de Amazias, rei de Judá, começou a reinar. 2 Tinha dezesseis anos de idade quando se tornou rei e reinou cinquenta e dois anos em Jerusalém. A mãe dele chamava-se Jecolias e era de Jerusalém. 3 Ele fez o que é justo aos olhos do Senhor, tal como Amazias, o seu pai. 4 Contudo, os santuários locais não foram removidos; o povo continuava a oferecer sacrifícios e a queimar incenso neles.

5 O Senhor feriu o rei com lepra,*15.5 A palavra hebraica era utilizada para designar vários tipos de doença de pele, não somente lepra. até o dia da sua morte. Durante todo esse tempo, morou em uma casa separada.*15.5 Ou casa onde estava desobrigado das suas responsabilidades. Jotão, filho do rei, tomava conta do palácio e governava o povo da terra.

O reinado de Zacarias, rei de Israel

8 No trigésimo oitavo ano do reinado de Azarias, rei de Judá, Zacarias, filho de Jeroboão, tornou-se rei de Israel em Samaria e reinou seis meses. 9 Ele fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor, como os seus antepassados haviam feito. Não se desviou dos pecados que Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, tinha levado Israel a cometer.

10 Salum, filho de Jabes, conspirou contra Zacarias. O reinado de Salum, rei de Israel

13 Salum, filho de Jabes, começou a reinar no trigésimo nono ano do reinado de Uzias, rei de Judá, e reinou um mês em Samaria. 14 Então, Menaém, filho de Gadi, foi de Tirza a Samaria e atacou Salum, filho de Jabes, assassinou-o e reinou em seu lugar. 15 Os demais acontecimentos do reinado de Salum, e a conspiração que liderou, constam nos registros históricos dos reis de Israel.

16 Naquela ocasião, Menaém, partindo de Tirza, atacou Tifsa e todos os que estavam na cidade e nos seus arredores, porque eles se recusaram a abrir as portas da cidade. Atacou Tifsa e rasgou ao meio todas as mulheres grávidas.

O reinado de Menaém, rei de Israel

17 No trigésimo nono ano do reinado de Azarias, rei de Judá, Menaém, filho de Gadi, tornou-se rei de Israel e reinou dez anos em Samaria. 18 Ele fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor. Durante todo o seu reinado, não se desviou dos pecados que Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, tinha levado Israel a cometer.

19 Então, Pul,*15.19 Também chamado Tiglate-Pileser III. rei da Assíria, invadiu o país, e Menaém lhe deu mil talentos*15.19 Isto é, cerca de 34 toneladas. de prata para obter o seu apoio e manter-se no trono. 20 Menaém cobrou essa quantia de Israel. O reinado de Pecaías, rei de Israel

23 No quinquagésimo ano do reinado de Azarias, rei de Judá, Pecaías, filho de Menaém, tornou-se rei de Israel em Samaria e reinou dois anos. 24 Pecaías fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor. Não se desviou dos pecados que Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, tinha levado Israel a cometer. 25 Um dos seus oficiais, Peca, filho de Remalias, conspirou contra ele. Levando consigo cinquenta homens de Gileade, assassinou Pecaías e também Argobe e Arié, na cidadela do palácio real em Samaria. Assim, Peca matou Pecaías e reinou em seu lugar.

O reinado de Peca, rei de Israel

27 No quinquagésimo segundo ano do reinado de Azarias, rei de Judá, Peca, filho de Remalias, tornou-se rei de Israel em Samaria e reinou vinte anos. 28 Ele fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor. Não se desviou dos pecados que Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, tinha levado Israel a cometer.

29 Durante o reinado de Peca, Tiglate-Pileser, rei da Assíria, invadiu e conquistou Ijom, Abel-Bete-Maaca, Janoa, Quedes e Hazor. Tomou Gileade e a Galileia, incluindo toda a terra de Naftali, e deportou o povo para a Assíria. 30 Então, Oseias, filho de Elá, conspirou contra Peca, filho de Remalias. Ele o atacou e o assassinou, tornando-se rei em seu lugar no vigésimo ano do reinado de Jotão, filho de Uzias.

O reinado de Jotão, rei de Judá

32 No segundo ano do reinado de Peca, filho de Remalias, rei de Israel, Jotão, filho de Uzias, rei de Judá, começou a reinar. 33 Ele tinha vinte e cinco anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou dezesseis anos em Jerusalém. A mãe dele chamava-se Jerusa e era filha de Zadoque. 34 Ele fez o que é justo aos olhos do Senhor, tal como Uzias, o seu pai. 35 Contudo, os santuários locais não foram removidos; o povo continuava a oferecer sacrifícios e a queimar incenso neles. 36 Os demais acontecimentos do reinado de Jotão, e tudo o que realizou, constam nos registros históricos dos reis de Judá. 37 Naqueles dias, o Senhor começou a enviar Rezim, rei de Arã, e Peca, filho de Remalias, contra Judá. 38 Jotão descansou com os seus antepassados e foi sepultado junto deles na Cidade de Davi, o seu pai, e Acaz, o seu filho, sucedeu-o como rei.

Azariah King of Judah

1 In the twenty-seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Azariah*15:1 Also called Uzziah; also in verses 6, 7, 8, 17, 23 and 27 son of Amaziah king of Judah began to reign. 2 He was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. 6 As for the other events of Azariah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 7 Azariah rested with his ancestors and was buried near them in the City of David. And Jotham his son succeeded him as king.

Zechariah King of Israel

8 In the thirty-eighth year of Azariah king of Judah, Zechariah son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned six months. 9 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, as his predecessors had done. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit.

10 Shallum son of Jabesh conspired against Zechariah. He attacked him in front of the people,*15:10 Hebrew; some Septuagint manuscripts in Ibleam assassinated him and succeeded him as king. 11 The other events of Zechariah’s reign are written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel. 12 So the word of the Lord spoken to Jehu was fulfilled: "Your descendants will sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation."*15:12 2 Kings 10:30

Shallum King of Israel

13 Shallum son of Jabesh became king in the thirty-ninth year of Uzziah king of Judah, and he reigned in Samaria one month. 14 Then Menahem son of Gadi went from Tirzah up to Samaria. He attacked Shallum son of Jabesh in Samaria, assassinated him and succeeded him as king.

15 The other events of Shallum’s reign, and the conspiracy he led, are written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel.

16 At that time Menahem, starting out from Tirzah, attacked Tiphsah and everyone in the city and its vicinity, because they refused to open their gates. He sacked Tiphsah and ripped open all the pregnant women.

Menahem King of Israel

17 In the thirty-ninth year of Azariah king of Judah, Menahem son of Gadi became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria ten years. 18 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. During his entire reign he did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit.

19 Then Pul*15:19 Also called Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria invaded the land, and Menahem gave him a thousand talents*15:19 That is, about 38 tons or about 34 metric tons of silver to gain his support and strengthen his own hold on the kingdom. 20 Menahem exacted this money from Israel. Every wealthy person had to contribute fifty shekels*15:20 That is, about 1 1/4 pounds or about 575 grams of silver to be given to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria withdrew and stayed in the land no longer.

Pekahiah King of Israel

23 In the fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah, Pekahiah son of Menahem became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned two years. 24 Pekahiah did evil in the eyes of the Lord. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit. 25 One of his chief officers, Pekah son of Remaliah, conspired against him. Taking fifty men of Gilead with him, he assassinated Pekahiah, along with Argob and Arieh, in the citadel of the royal palace at Samaria. So Pekah killed Pekahiah and succeeded him as king.

26 The other events of Pekahiah’s reign, and all he did, are written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel.

Pekah King of Israel

27 In the fifty-second year of Azariah king of Judah, Pekah son of Remaliah became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned twenty years. 28 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit.

29 In the time of Pekah king of Israel, Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria came and took Ijon, Abel Beth Maakah, Janoah, Kedesh and Hazor. He took Gilead and Galilee, including all the land of Naphtali, and deported the people to Assyria. 30 Then Hoshea son of Elah conspired against Pekah son of Remaliah. He attacked and assassinated him, and then succeeded him as king in the twentieth year of Jotham son of Uzziah.

31 As for the other events of Pekah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

Jotham King of Judah

32 In the second year of Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel, Jotham son of Uzziah king of Judah began to reign. 33 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. His mother’s name was Jerusha daughter of Zadok. 34 He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father Uzziah had done. 35 The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there. Jotham rebuilt the Upper Gate of the temple of the Lord.

36 As for the other events of Jotham’s reign, and what he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 37 (In those days the Lord began to send Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah against Judah.) 38 Jotham rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David, the city of his father. And Ahaz his son succeeded him as king.
