A sunamita recebe de volta a sua propriedade

1 Eliseu tinha prevenido a mãe do menino que ele havia ressuscitado: "Saia do país com a sua família e vá morar onde puder, pois o Senhor determinou para esta terra uma fome que durará sete anos". 2 A mulher seguiu o conselho do homem de Deus, partiu com a família e passou sete anos na terra dos filisteus.

3 Ao final dos sete anos, ela voltou da terra dos filisteus e fez um apelo ao rei para readquirir a sua casa e as suas terras. 4 O rei estava conversando com Geazi, servo do homem de Deus, e disse:

— Conte-me todas as grandes realizações de Eliseu.

5 Enquanto Geazi contava ao rei como Eliseu havia ressuscitado o menino, a própria mãe chegou para apresentar a sua petição ao rei a fim de readquirir a sua casa e as suas terras.

Geazi disse:

— Esta é a mulher, ó rei, meu senhor, e este é o filho dela, a quem Eliseu ressuscitou.

6 O rei pediu que ela contasse o ocorrido, e esta relatou os fatos.

Então, ele designou um oficial para cuidar do caso da mulher e lhe ordenou:

— Devolva tudo o que pertencia a ela, incluindo toda a renda das colheitas, desde o dia em que saiu do país até hoje.

A morte de Ben-Hadade

7 Certa ocasião, Eliseu foi a Damasco. Ben-Hadade, rei de Arã, estava doente. Quando disseram ao rei: "O homem de Deus está na cidade", 8 ele ordenou a Hazael:

— Vá encontrar-se com o homem de Deus e leve-lhe um presente. Consulte o Senhor por meio dele; pergunte-lhe se vou me recuperar desta doença.

9 Hazael foi encontrar-se com Eliseu levando consigo tudo o que havia de melhor em Damasco, um presente carregado por quarenta camelos. Ao chegar diante dele, Hazael disse:

— O teu filho Ben-Hadade, rei de Arã, enviou-me para perguntar se ele vai se recuperar da sua doença.

10 Eliseu respondeu:

— Vá e diga-lhe: "Com certeza, você se recuperará". No entanto, o Senhor*8.10 Ou "Com certeza, você não viverá" . Pois o Senhor. me revelou que de fato ele morrerá.

11 Eliseu ficou olhando fixamente para Hazael até deixá-lo constrangido. Então, o homem de Deus começou a chorar.

12 Hazael perguntou:

— Por que o meu senhor está chorando?

Ele respondeu:

— Porque sei das coisas terríveis que você fará aos israelitas. Você incendiará as suas fortalezas, matará os seus jovens à espada, esmagará as crianças e rasgará o ventre das mulheres grávidas.

13 Hazael disse:

— Como poderia teu servo, que não passa de um cão, realizar algo assim?

Eliseu respondeu:

— O Senhor me mostrou que você se tornará rei de Arã.

14 Então, Hazael saiu dali e voltou para o seu senhor. Quando Ben-Hadade perguntou: "O que Eliseu disse a você?", Hazael respondeu:

— Ele me falou que certamente te recuperarás.

15 No dia seguinte, ele apanhou um cobertor, encharcou-o e com ele sufocou o rei até matá-lo. Assim, Hazael reinou em seu lugar.

O reinado de Jeorão, rei de Judá

16 No quinto ano de Jorão, filho de Acabe, rei de Israel, sendo ainda Josafá rei de Judá, Jeorão, o seu filho, começou a reinar em Judá. 17 Ele tinha trinta e dois anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou oito anos em Jerusalém. 18 Andou nos caminhos dos reis de Israel, como a família de Acabe havia feito, pois se casou com uma filha de Acabe e fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor. 19 Entretanto, por amor ao seu servo Davi, o Senhor não quis destruir Judá. Ele havia prometido manter para sempre uma lâmpada para Davi e os seus descendentes.

20 Nos dias de Jeorão, os edomitas rebelaram-se contra o domínio de Judá, proclamando o seu próprio rei. 21 Por isso, Jeorão foi a Zair com todos os seus carros de guerra. Lá os edomitas cercaram Jeorão e os comandantes dos seus carros de guerra, mas ele os atacou de noite e rompeu o cerco inimigo, e o seu exército conseguiu fugir para casa. 22 Desde então, Edom continua em rebelião contra Judá. Nessa mesma época, a cidade de Libna se revoltou.

23 Os demais acontecimentos do reinado de Jeorão, e tudo o que realizou, constam nos registros históricos dos reis de Judá. 24 Jeorão descansou com os seus antepassados e foi sepultado junto deles na Cidade de Davi, e Acazias, o seu filho, sucedeu-o como rei.

O reinado de Acazias, rei de Judá

25 No décimo segundo ano do reinado de Jorão, filho de Acabe, rei de Israel, Acazias, filho de Jeorão, rei de Judá, começou a reinar. 26 Acazias tinha vinte e dois*8.26 Conforme alguns manuscritos da Septuaginta e a Versão Siríaca. O Texto Massorético traz quarenta e dois. Veja 2Cr 22.2. anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou um ano em Jerusalém. A mãe dele chamava-se Atalia e era neta de Onri, rei de Israel. 27 Ele andou nos caminhos da família de Acabe e fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor, como a família de Acabe havia feito, pois se casou com uma mulher da família de Acabe.

28 Acazias aliou-se a Jorão, filho de Acabe, e saiu para guerrear contra Hazael, rei de Arã, em Ramote-Gileade. Jorão foi ferido pelos arameus 29 e voltou a Jezreel para recuperar-se dos ferimentos sofridos em Ramote,*8.29 Hebraico: Ramá, variante de Ramote. na batalha contra Hazael, rei de Arã.

Acazias, rei de Judá, foi a Jezreel visitar Jorão, filho de Acabe, pois Jorão se recuperava dos ferimentos.

The Shunammite’s Land Restored

1 Now Elisha had said to the woman whose son he had restored to life, "Go away with your family and stay for a while wherever you can, because the Lord has decreed a famine in the land that will last seven years." 2 The woman proceeded to do as the man of God said. She and her family went away and stayed in the land of the Philistines seven years.

3 At the end of the seven years she came back from the land of the Philistines and went to appeal to the king for her house and land. 4 The king was talking to Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, and had said, "Tell me about all the great things Elisha has done." 5 Just as Gehazi was telling the king how Elisha had restored the dead to life, the woman whose son Elisha had brought back to life came to appeal to the king for her house and land.

Gehazi said, "This is the woman, my lord the king, and this is her son whom Elisha restored to life." 6 The king asked the woman about it, and she told him.

Then he assigned an official to her case and said to him, "Give back everything that belonged to her, including all the income from her land from the day she left the country until now."

Hazael Murders Ben-Hadad

7 Elisha went to Damascus, and Ben-Hadad king of Aram was ill. When the king was told, "The man of God has come all the way up here," 8 he said to Hazael, "Take a gift with you and go to meet the man of God. Consult the Lord through him; ask him, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’ "

9 Hazael went to meet Elisha, taking with him as a gift forty camel-loads of all the finest wares of Damascus. He went in and stood before him, and said, "Your son Ben-Hadad king of Aram has sent me to ask, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’ "

10 Elisha answered, "Go and say to him, ‘You will certainly recover.’ Nevertheless,*8:10 The Hebrew may also be read Go and say, ‘You will certainly not recover,’ for. the Lord has revealed to me that he will in fact die." 11 He stared at him with a fixed gaze until Hazael was embarrassed. Then the man of God began to weep.

12 "Why is my lord weeping?" asked Hazael.

"Because I know the harm you will do to the Israelites," he answered. "You will set fire to their fortified places, kill their young men with the sword, dash their little children to the ground, and rip open their pregnant women."

13 Hazael said, "How could your servant, a mere dog, accomplish such a feat?"

"The Lord has shown me that you will become king of Aram," answered Elisha.

14 Then Hazael left Elisha and returned to his master. When Ben-Hadad asked, "What did Elisha say to you?" Hazael replied, "He told me that you would certainly recover." 15 But the next day he took a thick cloth, soaked it in water and spread it over the king’s face, so that he died. Then Hazael succeeded him as king.

Jehoram King of Judah

16 In the fifth year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, when Jehoshaphat was king of Judah, Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat began his reign as king of Judah. 17 He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. 18 He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. 19 Nevertheless, for the sake of his servant David, the Lord was not willing to destroy Judah. He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever.

20 In the time of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against Judah and set up its own king. 21 So Jehoram*8:21 Hebrew Joram, a variant of Jehoram; also in verses 23 and 24 went to Zair with all his chariots. The Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, but he rose up and broke through by night; his army, however, fled back home. 22 To this day Edom has been in rebellion against Judah. Libnah revolted at the same time.

23 As for the other events of Jehoram’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 24 Jehoram rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.

Ahaziah King of Judah

25 In the twelfth year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign. 26 Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother’s name was Athaliah, a granddaughter of Omri king of Israel. 27 He followed the ways of the house of Ahab and did evil in the eyes of the Lord, as the house of Ahab had done, for he was related by marriage to Ahab’s family.

28 Ahaziah went with Joram son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth Gilead. The Arameans wounded Joram; 29 so King Joram returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him at Ramoth*8:29 Hebrew Ramah, a variant of Ramoth in his battle with Hazael king of Aram.

Then Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to Jezreel to see Joram son of Ahab, because he had been wounded.
