Advertência a prestar atenção
1 Por isso, é preciso que prestemos maior atenção no que temos ouvido, para que jamais nos desviemos. 2 Pois, uma vez que a mensagem transmitida por meio dos anjos era válida e toda transgressão e desobediência recebeu a devida punição, 3 como escaparemos nós se negligenciarmos tão grande salvação? Essa salvação, primeiramente anunciada pelo Senhor, foi-nos confirmada pelos que a ouviram. 4 Deus também deu testemunho dela por meio de sinais, maravilhas, diversos milagres e dons do Espírito Santo distribuídos de acordo com a sua vontade.
Jesus é feito semelhante aos seus irmãos
5 Pois não foi a anjos que ele sujeitou o mundo que há de vir, a respeito do qual estamos falando, 6 mas alguém em certo lugar testemunhou, dizendo:
"Que é o homem, para que com ele te importes?
E o filho do homem, para que com ele te preocupes?
7 Tu o fizeste um2.7 Ou por um. pouco menor do que os anjos
e o coroaste com glória e com honra;
8 sujeitaste todas as coisas debaixo dos seus pés".2.6-8 Sl 8.4-6.
Ao lhe sujeitar todas as coisas, nada deixou que não lhe estivesse sujeito. Agora, porém, ainda não vemos todas as coisas sujeitas a ele. 9 Vemos, todavia, aquele que por um pouco foi feito menor do que os anjos, Jesus, coroado com honra e glória por ter sofrido a morte, para que, pela graça de Deus, experimentasse a morte em favor de todos.
10 Para levar muitos filhos à glória, convinha que Deus — para quem e por meio de quem tudo existe — aperfeiçoasse por meio do sofrimento o autor da salvação deles. 11 Ora, tanto o que santifica quanto os que são santificados provêm de um só. Por isso, Jesus não se envergonha de chamá-los irmãos. 12 Ele diz:
"Proclamarei o teu nome aos meus irmãos;
no meio da assembleia te louvarei".2.12 Sl 22.22.
13 E também:
"Eu porei a minha confiança nele".2.13 Is 8.17.
Novamente diz:
"Aqui estou, com os filhos que Deus me deu".2.13 Is 8.18.
14 Portanto, visto que os filhos são pessoas de carne e sangue, ele também participou dessa condição humana, para que, por meio da morte, derrotasse aquele que tem o poder da morte, isto é, o Diabo, 15 e libertasse aqueles que durante toda a vida estiveram escravizados pelo medo da morte. 16 Pois é claro que não veio para ajudar os anjos, mas os descendentes de Abraão. 17 Por essa razão, ele deveria ser semelhante aos seus irmãos em todos os aspectos, para se tornar sumo sacerdote misericordioso e fiel com relação a Deus e fazer expiação pelos pecados do povo. 18 Porque, tendo em vista o que ele mesmo sofreu quando foi tentado, é capaz de socorrer aqueles que também estão sendo tentados.
Warning to Pay Attention
1 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2 For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
Jesus Made Fully Human
5 It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6 But there is a place where someone has testified:
"What is mankind that you are mindful of them,
a son of man that you care for him?
7 You made them a little2:7 Or them for a little while lower than the angels;
you crowned them with glory and honor
8 and put everything under their feet."2:6-8 Psalm 8:4-62:7,8 Or 7 You made him a little lower than the angels; / you crowned him with glory and honor / 8 and put everything under his feet."
In putting everything under them,2:8 Or him God left nothing that is not subject to them.2:8 Or him Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them.2:8 Or him9 But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
10 In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered. 11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.2:11 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family; also in verse 12; and in 3:1, 12; 10:19; 13:22.12 He says,
"I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters;
in the assembly I will sing your praises."2:12 Psalm 22:22
13 And again,
"I will put my trust in him."2:13 Isaiah 8:17
And again he says,
"Here am I, and the children God has given me."2:13 Isaiah 8:18
14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants. 17 For this reason he had to be made like them,2:17 Or like his brothers fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
