1 Poucos dias depois, tendo Jesus entrado novamente em Cafarnaum, o povo ouviu falar que ele estava em casa.2 Então muita gente se reuniu ali, de forma que não havia lugar nem junto à porta; e ele lhes pregava a palavra.3 Vieram alguns homens, trazendo-lhe um paralítico, carregado por quatro deles.4 Não podendo levá-lo até Jesus, por causa da multidão, removeram parte da cobertura do lugar onde Jesus estava e, através de uma abertura no teto, baixaram a maca em que estava deitado o paralítico.5 Vendo a fé que eles tinham, Jesus disse ao paralítico: "Filho, os seus pecados estão perdoados".6 Estavam sentados ali alguns mestres da lei, raciocinando em seu íntimo:7 "Por que esse homem fala assim? Está blasfemando! Quem pode perdoar pecados, a não ser somente Deus? "8 Jesus percebeu logo em seu espírito que era isso que eles estavam pensando e lhes disse: "Por que vocês estão remoendo essas coisas em seus corações?9 Que é mais fácil dizer ao paralítico: ‘Os seus pecados estão perdoados’, ou: ‘Levante-se, pegue a sua maca e ande’?10 Mas, para que vocês saibam que o Filho do homem tem na terra autoridade para perdoar pecados — disse ao paralítico —11 eu lhe digo: Levante-se, pegue a sua maca e vá para casa".12 Ele se levantou, pegou a maca e saiu à vista de todos. Estes ficaram atônitos e glorificaram a Deus, dizendo: "Nunca vimos nada igual! "13 Jesus saiu outra vez para beira-mar. Uma grande multidão aproximou-se, e ele começou a ensiná-los.14 Passando por ali, viu Levi, filho de Alfeu, sentado na coletoria, e disse-lhe: "Siga-me". Levi levantou-se e o seguiu.15 Durante uma refeição na casa de Levi, muitos publicanos e "pecadores" estavam comendo com Jesus e seus discípulos, pois havia muitos que o seguiam.16 Quando os mestres da lei que eram fariseus o viram comendo com "pecadores" e publicanos, perguntaram aos discípulos de Jesus: "Por que ele come com publicanos e ‘pecadores’? "17 Ouvindo isso, Jesus lhes disse: "Não são os que têm saúde que precisam de médico, mas sim os doentes. Eu não vim para chamar justos, mas pecadores".18 Os discípulos de João e os fariseus estavam jejuando. Algumas pessoas vieram a Jesus e lhe perguntaram: "Por que os discípulos de João e os dos fariseus jejuam, mas os teus não? "19 Jesus respondeu: "Como podem os convidados do noivo jejuar enquanto este está com eles? Não podem, enquanto o têm consigo.20 Mas virão dias quando o noivo lhes será tirado; e nesse tempo jejuarão.21 "Ninguém põe remendo de pano novo em roupa velha, pois o remendo forçará a roupa, tornando pior o rasgo.22 E ninguém põe vinho novo em vasilhas de couro velhas; se o fizer, o vinho rebentará as vasilhas, e tanto o vinho quanto as vasilhas se estragarão. Pelo contrário, põe-se vinho novo em vasilhas de couro novas".23 Certo sábado Jesus estava passando pelas lavouras de cereal. Enquanto caminhavam, seus discípulos começaram a colher espigas.24 Os fariseus lhe perguntaram: "Olha, por que eles estão fazendo o que não é permitido no sábado? "25 Ele respondeu: "Vocês nunca leram o que fez Davi quando ele e seus companheiros estavam necessitados e com fome?26 Nos dias de Abiatar, o sumo sacerdote, ele entrou na casa de Deus e comeu os pães da Presença, que apenas aos sacerdotes era permitido comer, e os deu também aos seus companheiros".27 E então lhes disse: "O sábado foi feito por causa do homem, e não o homem por causa do sábado.28 Assim, pois, o Filho do homem é Senhor até mesmo do sábado".

1 And when he entered again into Capernaum after some days, it was heard that he was at home.2 And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room [for them], no, not even about the door: and he spoke the word to them.3 And they come, bringing to him a man sick of the palsy, borne of four.4 And not being able to bring [the man] to him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed on which the sick of the palsy lay.5 And Jesus seeing their faith says to the sick of the palsy, Child, your sins are forgiven.6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,7 Why does this man thus speak? He blasphemes. Who can forgive sins but one, God?8 And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned to themselves, says to them, Why do you{+} reason these things in your{+} hearts?9 Which is easier, to say to the sick of the palsy, Your sins are forgiven; or to say, Arise, and take up your bed, and walk?10 But that you{+} may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins--he says to the sick of the palsy:11 I say to you, Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.12 And he arose, and immediately took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.13 And he went forth again by the seaside; and all the multitude resorted to him, and he taught them.14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the [son] of Alphaeus sitting at the place of toll, and he says to him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.15 And it comes to pass, that he was sitting at meat in his house, and many publicans and sinners sat down with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.16 And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with the sinners and publicans, said to his disciples, [How is it] that he eats with publicans and sinners?17 And when Jesus heard it, he says to them, Those who are whole have no need of a physician, but those who are sick: I didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners.18 And John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting: and they come and say to him, Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples don't fast?19 And Jesus said to them, Can the sons of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they can't fast.20 But the days will come, when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day.21 No man sews a piece of undressed cloth on an old garment: else that which should fill it up takes from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made.22 And no man puts new wine into old wineskins; else the wine will burst the skins, and the wine perishes, and the skins: but [they put] new wine into fresh wineskins.23 And it came to pass, that he was going on the Sabbath day through the grainfields; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears.24 And the Pharisees said to him, Look, why do they do on the Sabbath day that which is not lawful?25 And he says to them, Did you{+} never read what David did, when he had need, and was hungry, he, and those who were with him?26 How he entered into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the showbread, which it is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and gave also to those who were with him?27 And he said to them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath:28 so that the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.
