1 Paulo, apóstolo de Cristo Jesus pela vontade de Deus, e o irmão Timóteo, à igreja de Deus que está em Corinto, juntamente com todos os santos de toda a Acaia:2 A vocês, graça e paz da parte de Deus nosso Pai e do Senhor Jesus Cristo.3 Bendito seja o Deus e Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, Pai das misericórdias e Deus de toda consolação,4 que nos consola em todas as nossas tribulações, para que, com a consolação que recebemos de Deus, possamos consolar os que estão passando por tribulações.5 Pois assim como os sofrimentos de Cristo transbordam sobre nós, também por meio de Cristo transborda a nossa consolação.6 Se somos atribulados, é para consolação e salvação de vocês; se somos consolados, é para consolação de vocês, a qual lhes dá paciência para suportarem os mesmos sofrimentos que nós estamos padecendo.7 E a nossa esperança em relação a vocês está firme, porque sabemos que, da mesma forma como vocês participam dos nossos sofrimentos, participam também da nossa consolação.8 Irmãos, não queremos que vocês desconheçam as tribulações que sofremos na província da Ásia, as quais foram muito além da nossa capacidade de suportar, a ponto de perdermos a esperança da própria vida.9 De fato, já tínhamos sobre nós a sentença de morte, para que não confiássemos em nós mesmos, mas em Deus, que ressuscita os mortos.10 Ele nos livrou e continuará nos livrando de tal perigo de morte. Nele temos colocado a nossa esperança de que continuará a livrar-nos,11 enquanto vocês nos ajudam com as suas orações. Assim muitos darão graças por nossa causa, pelo favor a nós concedido em resposta às orações de muitos.12 Este é o nosso orgulho: A nossa consciência dá testemunho de que nos temos conduzido no mundo, especialmente em nosso relacionamento com vocês, com santidade e sinceridade provenientes de Deus, não de acordo com a sabedoria do mundo, mas de acordo com a graça de Deus.13 Pois nada lhes escrevemos que vocês não sejam capazes de ler ou entender. E espero que,14 assim como vocês nos entenderam em parte, venham a entender plenamente que podem orgulhar-se de nós, assim como nos orgulharemos de vocês no dia do Senhor Jesus.15 Confiando nisso, e para que vocês fossem duplamente beneficiados, planejava primeiro visitá-los16 em minha ida à Macedônia e voltar a vocês vindo de lá, para que me ajudassem em minha viagem para a Judéia.17 Quando planejei isso, será que o fiz levianamente? Ou será que faço meus planos de modo mundano, dizendo ao mesmo tempo "sim" e "não"?18 Todavia, como Deus é fiel, nossa mensagem a vocês não é "sim" e "não",19 pois o Filho de Deus, Jesus Cristo, pregado entre vocês por mim e também por Silvano e Timóteo, não foi "sim" e "não", mas nele sempre houve "sim";20 pois quantas forem as promessas feitas por Deus, tantas têm em Cristo o "sim". Por isso, por meio dele, o "Amém" é pronunciado por nós para a glória de Deus.21 Ora, é Deus que faz que nós e vocês permaneçamos firmes em Cristo. Ele nos ungiu,22 nos selou como sua propriedade e pôs o seu Espírito em nossos corações como garantia do que está por vir.23 Invoco a Deus como testemunha de que foi a fim de poupá-los que não voltei a Corinto.24 Não que tenhamos domínio sobre a sua fé, mas cooperamos com vocês para que tenham alegria, pois é pela fé que vocês permanecem firmes.

1 Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God–and our brother Timothy: To the Church of God in Corinth, with all God's people throughout Greece.2 May grace and peace be granted to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.3 Heartfelt thanks be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ–the Father who is full of compassion and the God who gives all comfort.4 He comforts us in our every affliction so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction by means of the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.5 For just as we have more than our share of suffering for the Christ, so also through the Christ we have more than our share of comfort.6 But if, on the one hand, we are enduring affliction, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if, on the other hand, we are receiving comfort, it is for your comfort which is produced within you through your patient fortitude under the same sufferings as those which we also are enduring.7 And our hope for you is stedfast; for we know that as you are partners with us in the sufferings, so you are also partners in the comfort.8 For as for our troubles which came upon us in the province of Asia, we would have you know, brethren, that we were exceedingly weighed down, and felt overwhelmed, so that we renounced all hope even of life.9 Nay, we had, as we still have, the sentence of death within our own selves, in order that our confidence may repose, not on ourselves, but on God who raised the dead to life.10 He it is who rescued us from so imminent a death, and will do so again; and we have a firm hope in Him that He will also rescue us in all the future,11 while you on your part lend us your aid in entreaty for us, so that from many lips thanksgivings may rise on our behalf for the boon granted to us at the intercession of many.12 For the reason for our boasting is this–the testimony of our own conscience that it was in holiness and with pure motives before God, and in reliance not on worldly wisdom but on the gracious help of God, that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and above all in our relations with you.13 For we are writing to you nothing different from what we have written before, or from what indeed you already recognize as truth and will, I trust, recognize as such to the very end;14 just as some few of you have recognized us as your reason for boasting, even as you will be ours, on the day of Jesus our Lord.15 It was because I entertained this confidence that I intended to visit you before going elsewhere –so that you might receive a twofold proof of God's favour–16 and to pass by way of Corinth into Macedonia. Then my plan was to return from Macedonia to you, and be helped forward by you to Judaea.17 Did I display any vacillation or caprice in this? Or the purposes which I form–do I form them on worldly principles, now crying »Yes, yes,« and now »No, no«?18 As certainly as God is faithful, our language to you is not now »Yes« and now »No.«19 For Jesus Christ the Son of God –He who was proclaimed among you by us, that is by Silas and Timothy and myself– did not show Himself a waverer between »Yes« and »No.« But it was and always is »Yes« with Him.20 For all the promises of God, whatever their number, have their confirmation in Him; and for this reason through Him also our »Amen« acknowledges their truth and promotes the glory of God through our faith.21 But He who is making us as well as you stedfast through union with the Anointed One, and has anointed us, is God,22 and He has also set His seal upon us, and has put His Spirit into our hearts as a pledge and foretaste of future blessing.23 But as for me, as my soul shall answer for it, I appeal to God as my witness, that it was to spare you pain that I gave up my visit to Corinth.24 Not that we want to lord it over you in respect of your faith –we do, however, desire to help your joy– for in the matter of your faith you are standing firm.
