1 Quando Davi já havia se estabelecido em seu palácio, mandou chamar o profeta Natã. Disse: "Veja, moro num palácio, uma casa de cedro, enquanto a arca da aliança do Senhor está lá fora, numa simples tenda".

2 Natã respondeu a Davi: "Faça o que tem em mente, pois Deus está com o rei".

3 Naquela mesma noite, porém, Deus disse a Natã:

4 "Vá e diga a meu servo Davi que assim diz o Senhor: ‘Não será você que construirá uma casa para eu habitar. 5 Desde o dia em que tirei os israelitas do Egito até hoje, nunca morei numa casa. Sempre acompanhei o povo de um lugar para o outro numa tenda, num tabernáculo. 6 E, no entanto, onde quer que tenha ido com os israelitas, nunca me queixei aos líderes de Israel, aos pastores de meu povo. Nunca lhes perguntei: Por que não construíram para mim um palácio, uma casa de cedro?’.

7 "Agora vá e diga a meu servo Davi que assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: ‘Eu o tirei das pastagens onde você cuidava das ovelhas e o escolhi para ser o líder de meu povo, Israel. 8 Estive com você por onde andou e destruí todos os seus inimigos diante de seus olhos. Agora, tornarei seu nome tão conhecido quanto o dos homens mais importantes da terra! 9 Providenciarei uma terra para meu povo, Israel, e os plantarei num lugar seguro, onde jamais serão perturbados. Nações perversas não os oprimirão como fizeram no passado, 10 desde o tempo em que nomeei juízes para governar meu povo, Israel. Também derrotarei todos os seus inimigos.

"‘Além disso, eu declaro que o Senhor fará uma casa para você, uma dinastia real! 11 Pois, quando você morrer e se reunir a seus antepassados, escolherei um de seus filhos, de sua própria descendência, e estabelecerei seu reino. 12 Ele é que construirá uma casa para mim, e estabelecerei seu trono para sempre. 13 Eu serei seu pai, e ele será meu filho. Jamais retirarei dele meu favor, como o retirei daquele que governou antes de você. 14 Eu o confirmarei para sempre como rei sobre minha casa e sobre meu reino, e seu trono será estabelecido para sempre’".

15 Natã voltou até Davi e contou ao rei tudo que o Senhor lhe tinha revelado.

16 Então o rei Davi entrou no santuário, pôs-se diante do Senhor e orou:

"Quem sou eu, ó Senhor Deus, e o que é minha família, para que me trouxesses até aqui? 17 E agora, ó Deus, como se isso não bastasse, dizes que dará a teu servo uma dinastia duradoura! Como alguém pode ser tão privilegiado, ó Senhor Deus?*17.17 O significado do hebraico é incerto.

18 "Que mais posso dizer sobre o modo como me honraste? Tu sabes como teu servo é de fato. 19 Por causa de teu servo, ó Senhor, e de acordo com tua vontade, fizeste todas estas grandes coisas e as tornaste conhecidas.

20 "Ó Senhor, não há ninguém igual a ti! Jamais ouvimos falar de outro Deus como tu! 21 Que outra nação na terra é como teu povo, Israel? Que outra nação, ó Deus, resgataste da escravidão para ser teu povo? Engrandeceste teu nome ao livrar teu povo do Egito. Realizaste milagres impressionantes e removeste as nações do caminho de teu povo. 22 Escolheste Israel para ser teu próprio povo para sempre, e tu, ó Senhor, te tornaste seu Deus.

23 "E agora, ó Senhor, sou teu servo; faze o que prometeste a meu respeito e de minha família. Confirma-o como uma promessa que durará para sempre. 24 Que o teu nome seja estabelecido e honrado para sempre, a fim de que todos digam: ‘O Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel, é Deus para Israel!’. E que a dinastia de teu servo Davi permaneça diante de ti para sempre.

25 "Ó Deus meu, tive a coragem de fazer-te esta oração porque revelaste a teu servo que farás uma casa para mim, uma dinastia real! 26 Pois tu és Deus, ó Senhor, e prometeste estas coisas boas a teu servo. 27 E agora, que seja do teu agrado abençoar a casa de teu servo, para que ela permaneça para sempre diante de ti. Pois, quando concedes uma bênção, ó Senhor, é uma bênção para sempre!".

1 Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains. 2 Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.

3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, 4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in: 5 For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.*17.5 have gone: Heb. have been 6 Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars? 7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:*17.7 from following: Heb. from after 8 And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth. 9 Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning, 10 And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house.

11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever. 13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee: 14 But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore. 15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

16 And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto? 17 And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God. 18 What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant. 19 O LORD, for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.*17.19 great…: Heb. greatnesses 20 O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 21 And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt? 22 For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God. 23 Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said. 24 Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee. 25 For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.*17.25 hast…: Heb. hast revealed the ear of thy servant 26 And now, LORD, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant: 27 Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O LORD, and it shall be blessed for ever.*17.27 let…: or, it hath pleased thee
