1 Hirão, rei de Tiro, enviou a Davi mensageiros com madeira de cedro, pedreiros e carpinteiros, para que lhe construíssem um palácio. 2 E Davi compreendeu que o Senhor o havia confirmado como rei sobre Israel e exaltado seu reino por causa de seu povo, Israel.

3 Em Jerusalém, Davi tomou para si outras mulheres, que lhe deram mais filhos e filhas. 4 Estes são os nomes dos filhos de Davi que nasceram em Jerusalém: Samua, Sobabe, Natã, Salomão, 5 Ibar, Elisua, Elpalete, 6 Nogá, Nefegue, Jafia, 7 Elisama, Eliada*14.7 Em hebraico, Beeliada, variação de Eliada; comparar com 3.8 e com o texto paralelo em 2Sm 5.16. e Elifelete.

8 Quando os filisteus souberam que Davi tinha sido ungido rei de Israel, mobilizaram suas tropas para capturá-lo. Davi, porém, foi informado disso e saiu para enfrentá-los. 9 Os filisteus chegaram e invadiram o vale de Refaim. 10 Então Davi perguntou a Deus: "Devo sair e lutar contra os filisteus? Tu os entregarás em minhas mãos?".

O Senhor respondeu a Davi: "Sim, vá, pois eu certamente os entregarei em suas mãos".

11 Então Davi e seus soldados foram a Baal-Perazim e ali derrotaram os filisteus. Davi exclamou: "Por meu intermédio, Deus irrompeu no meio de meus inimigos como uma violenta inundação!". Por isso, chamou aquele lugar de Baal-Perazim.*14.11 Baal-Perazim significa "o Senhor que irrompe". 12 Os filisteus haviam deixado seus ídolos ali, e Davi ordenou que fossem queimados.

13 Pouco tempo depois, os filisteus voltaram a invadir o vale. 14 Mais uma vez, Davi consultou a Deus. "Não os ataque pela frente", respondeu Deus. "Em vez disso, dê a volta por trás deles e ataque-os perto dos álamos.*14.14 Ou das amoreiras, ou dos bálsamos; também em 14.15. A identificação da árvore é incerta. 15 Quando ouvir um som como de pés marchando por cima dos álamos, saia e ataque! É o sinal de que Deus vai à sua frente para derrotar o exército filisteu." 16 Davi fez como Deus ordenou e derrotou os filisteus por todo o caminho, desde Gibeom até Gezer.

17 Assim, a fama de Davi se espalhou por toda parte, e o Senhor fez que todas as nações o temessem.

1 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house. 2 And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.

8 And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them. 9 And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. 10 And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand. 11 So they came up to Baal-perazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.*14.11 Baal-perazim: that is, A place of breaches 12 And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire. 13 And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley. 14 Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. 15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines. 16 David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.*14.16 Gibeon: also called, Geba 17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
