1 Pobre de mim!

Sinto-me como quem apanha frutas depois da colheita

e nada encontra para comer.

Não há um cacho de uvas sequer, nem um único figo novo

para saciar minha fome.

2 Os fiéis desapareceram;

não resta uma só pessoa honesta na terra.

São todos assassinos,

que preparam armadilhas até para os próprios irmãos;

3 suas mãos são hábeis para fazer o mal.

Governantes e juízes exigem subornos;

os mais influentes conseguem o que querem

e tramam juntos para perverter a justiça.

4 Até o melhor deles é como um espinheiro,

e o mais honesto é perigoso como uma cerca de espinhos.

Mas o dia anunciado se aproxima;

está chegando a hora de seu castigo, um tempo de confusão.

5 Não confie em ninguém,

nem mesmo em seu melhor amigo,

nem sequer em sua esposa.

6 Pois o filho despreza o pai,

a filha se rebela contra a mãe,

a nora se rebela contra a sogra;

seus inimigos estão em sua própria casa!

7 Quanto a mim, busco o Senhor

e espero confiante que Deus me salve;

certamente meu Deus me ouvirá!

8 Não se alegrem, meus inimigos;

pois, mesmo que eu caia, voltarei a me levantar.

Ainda que eu esteja em trevas,

o Senhor será minha luz.

9 Serei paciente enquanto o Senhor me castiga,

pois pequei contra ele.

Depois disso, ele defenderá minha causa

e fará o que é direito.

O Senhor me levará para a luz,

e verei sua justiça.

10 Então meus inimigos verão que o Senhor está do meu lado

e se envergonharão de ter dito:

"Onde está o Senhor,

seu Deus?".

Com os próprios olhos eu os verei cair;

serão pisados como lama nas ruas.

11 Naquele dia, Israel, seus muros serão reconstruídos,

e suas fronteiras, ampliadas.

12 Gente de muitas terras virá até você:

desde a Assíria até as cidades do Egito,

desde o Egito até o rio Eufrates,

e de mares e montes distantes.

13 A terra, porém, ficará vazia e desolada,

por causa da maldade dos que nela habitam.

14 Ó Senhor, protege teu povo com teu cajado de pastor;

conduz este rebanho que pertence a ti!

Embora vivam sozinhos num bosque

no alto do monte Carmelo,

leva-os para pastar nos campos verdes de Basã e Gileade,

como faziam muito tempo atrás.

15 "Sim, realizarei grandes milagres em seu favor,

como fiz quando os resgatei da terra do Egito."

16 Todas as nações ficarão admiradas

do que o Senhor fará por vocês.

Elas terão vergonha

de seu pequeno poder;

cobrirão a boca com as mãos

e taparão os ouvidos.

17 Como serpentes que rastejam para fora de seus esconderijos,

sairão ao encontro do Senhor, nosso Deus.

Terão muito temor dele

e tremerão em sua presença.

18 Que outro Deus há semelhante a ti,

que perdoas a culpa do remanescente

e esqueces os pecados dos que te pertencem?

Não permanecerás irado com teu povo para sempre,

pois tens prazer em mostrar teu amor.

19 Voltarás a ter compaixão de nós;

pisarás nossas maldades sob teus pés

e lançarás nossos pecados nas profundezas do mar.

20 Tu nos mostrarás tua fidelidade e teu amor

como prometeste há muito tempo

a Abraão e a Jacó, nossos antepassados.

1 Misery is mine!

Indeed, I am like one who gathers the summer fruits, as gleanings of the vineyard.

There is no cluster of grapes to eat.

My soul desires to eat the early fig.

2 The godly man has perished out of the earth,

and there is no one upright among men.

They all lie in wait for blood;

every man hunts his brother with a net.

3 Their hands are on that which is evil to do it diligently.

The ruler and judge ask for a bribe.

The powerful man dictates the evil desire of his soul.

Thus they conspire together.

4 The best of them is like a brier.

The most upright is worse than a thorn hedge.

The day of your watchmen,

even your visitation, has come;

now is the time of their confusion.

5 Don’t trust in a neighbor.

Don’t put confidence in a friend.

With the woman lying in your embrace,

be careful of the words of your mouth!

6 For the son dishonors the father,

the daughter rises up against her mother,

the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;

a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.

7 But as for me, I will look to Yahweh.

I will wait for the God of my salvation.

My God will hear me.

8 Don’t rejoice against me, my enemy.

When I fall, I will arise.

When I sit in darkness, Yahweh will be a light to me.

9 I will bear the indignation of Yahweh,

because I have sinned against him,

until he pleads my case and executes judgment for me.

He will bring me out to the light.

I will see his righteousness.

10 Then my enemy will see it,

and shame will cover her who said to me,

"Where is Yahweh your God?"

My eyes will see her.

Now she will be trodden down like the mire of the streets.

11 A day to build your walls!

In that day, he will extend your boundary.

12 In that day they will come to you from Assyria and the cities of Egypt,

and from Egypt even to the River,

and from sea to sea,

and mountain to mountain.

13 Yet the land will be desolate because of those who dwell therein,

for the fruit of their doings.

14 Shepherd your people with your staff,

the flock of your heritage,

who dwell by themselves in a forest.

Let them feed in the middle of fertile pasture land,

in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old.

15 "As in the days of your coming out of the land of Egypt,

I will show them marvelous things."

16 The nations will see and be ashamed of all their might.

They will lay their hand on their mouth.

Their ears will be deaf.

17 They will lick the dust like a serpent.

Like crawling things of the earth, they will come trembling out of their dens.

They will come with fear to Yahweh our God,

and will be afraid because of you.

18 Who is a God like you, who pardons iniquity,

and passes over the disobedience of the remnant of his heritage?

He doesn’t retain his anger forever,

because he delights in loving kindness.

19 He will again have compassion on us.

He will tread our iniquities under foot.

You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

20 You will give truth to Jacob,

and mercy to Abraham,

as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.
