1 Jesus reuniu seus doze discípulos e lhes deu autoridade para expulsar espíritos impuros e curar todo tipo de enfermidade e doença. 2 Estes são os nomes dos doze apóstolos:

primeiro, Simão, também chamado Pedro,

depois André, irmão de Pedro,

Tiago, filho de Zebedeu,

João, irmão de Tiago,

3 Filipe,

Bartolomeu,

Tomé,

Mateus, o cobrador de impostos,

Tiago, filho de Alfeu,

Tadeu,

4 Simão, o cananeu,

Judas Iscariotes, que depois traiu Jesus.

5 Jesus enviou os Doze com as seguintes instruções: "Não vão aos gentios nem aos samaritanos; 6 vão, antes, às ovelhas perdidas do povo de Israel. 7 Vão e anunciem que o reino dos céus está próximo. 8 Curem os doentes, ressuscitem os mortos, purifiquem os leprosos e expulsem os demônios. Deem de graça, pois também de graça vocês receberam.

9 "Não levem no cinto moedas de ouro, prata ou mesmo de cobre. 10 Não levem bolsa de viagem, nem outra muda de roupa, nem sandálias, nem cajado. Quem trabalha merece seu sustento.

11 "Sempre que entrarem em uma cidade ou povoado, procurem uma pessoa digna e fiquem em sua casa até partirem. 12 Quando entrarem na casa, saúdem-na com a paz. 13 Se o lar se revelar digno, que sua paz permaneça nela; se não, retirem a bênção. 14 Se alguma casa ou cidade se recusar a recebê-los ou a ouvir sua mensagem, sacudam a poeira dos pés ao sair. 15 Eu lhes digo a verdade: no dia do juízo, as cidades perversas de Sodoma e Gomorra serão tratadas com menos rigor que essa cidade.

16 "Ouçam, eu os envio como ovelhas no meio de lobos. Portanto, sejam espertos como serpentes e simples como pombas. 17 Tenham cuidado, pois vocês serão entregues aos tribunais e chicoteados nas sinagogas. 18 Por minha causa serão julgados diante de governantes e reis, mas essa será a oportunidade de falar a meu respeito a eles e aos gentios. 19 Quando forem presos, não se preocupem com o modo como responderão nem com o que dirão. Naquele momento, as palavras certas lhes serão concedidas, 20 pois não serão vocês que falarão, mas o Espírito de seu Pai falará por meio de vocês.

21 "O irmão trairá seu irmão e o entregará à morte, e assim também o pai a seu próprio filho. Os filhos se rebelarão contra os pais e os matarão. 22 Todos os odiarão por minha causa, mas quem perseverar até o fim será salvo. 23 Quando forem perseguidos numa cidade, fujam para outra. Eu lhes digo a verdade: o Filho do Homem voltará antes que tenham percorrido todas as cidades de Israel.

24 "O discípulo não está acima de seu mestre, nem o escravo acima de seu senhor. 25 Para o discípulo é suficiente ser como seu mestre, e o escravo, como seu senhor. Uma vez que o dono da casa foi chamado de Belzebu, os membros da família serão chamados de nomes ainda piores!

26 "Não tenham medo daqueles que os ameaçam, pois virá o dia em que tudo que está encoberto será revelado, e tudo que é secreto será divulgado. 27 O que agora lhes digo no escuro, anunciem às claras, e o que sussurro em seus ouvidos, proclamem dos telhados.

28 "Não tenham medo dos que querem matar o corpo; eles não podem tocar na alma. Temam somente a Deus, que pode destruir no inferno tanto a alma como o corpo. 29 Quanto custam dois pardais? Uma moeda de cobre? No entanto, nenhum deles cai no chão sem o conhecimento de seu Pai. 30 Quanto a vocês, até os cabelos de sua cabeça estão contados. 31 Portanto, não tenham medo; vocês são muito mais valiosos que um bando inteiro de pardais.

32 "Quem me reconhecer em público aqui na terra, eu o reconhecerei diante de meu Pai no céu. 33 Mas quem me negar aqui na terra, eu também o negarei diante de meu Pai no céu.

34 "Não imaginem que vim trazer paz à terra! Não vim trazer paz, mas a espada.

35 ‘Vim para pôr o homem contra seu pai,

a filha contra sua mãe,

e a nora contra sua sogra.

36 Seus inimigos estarão

em sua própria casa’.

37 "Quem ama seu pai ou sua mãe mais que a mim não é digno de mim; e quem ama seu filho ou sua filha mais que a mim não é digno de mim. 38 Quem se recusa a tomar sua cruz e me seguir não é digno de mim. 39 Quem se apegar à própria vida a perderá; mas quem abrir mão de sua vida por minha causa a encontrará.

40 "Quem recebe vocês recebe a mim, e quem me recebe também recebe aquele que me enviou. 41 Quem acolhe um profeta como alguém que fala da parte de Deus recebe a mesma recompensa que um profeta. E quem acolhe um justo por causa de sua justiça recebe uma recompensa igual à dele. 42 Se alguém der um copo de água fria que seja ao menor de meus seguidores, certamente não perderá sua recompensa".

1 He called to himself his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every sickness. 2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these. The first, Simon, who is called Peter; Andrew, his brother; James the son of Zebedee; John, his brother; 3 Philip; Bartholomew; Thomas; Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus; Lebbaeus, who was also called Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Zealot; and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

5 Jesus sent these twelve out and commanded them, saying, "Don’t go among the Gentiles, and don’t enter into any city of the Samaritans. 6 Rather, go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 As you go, preach, saying, ‘The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!’ 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, and cast out demons. Freely you received, so freely give. 9 Don’t take any gold, silver, or brass in your money belts. 10 Take no bag for your journey, neither two coats, nor sandals, nor staff: for the laborer is worthy of his food. 11 Into whatever city or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy, and stay there until you go on. 12 As you enter into the household, greet it. 13 If the household is worthy, let your peace come on it, but if it isn’t worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 Whoever doesn’t receive you or hear your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet. 15 Most certainly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.

16 "Behold, I send you out as sheep among wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. 17 But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils, and in their synagogues they will scourge you. 18 Yes, and you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations. 19 But when they deliver you up, don’t be anxious how or what you will say, for it will be given you in that hour what you will say. 20 For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

21 "Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child. Children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. 22 You will be hated by all men for my name’s sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved. 23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee into the next, for most certainly I tell you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man has come.

24 "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his lord. 25 It is enough for the disciple that he be like his teacher, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household! 26 Therefore don’t be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. 27 What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim on the housetops. 28 Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.

29 "Aren’t two sparrows sold for an assarion coin? Not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Therefore don’t be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows. 32 Everyone therefore who confesses me before men, I will also confess him before my Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven.

34 "Don’t think that I came to send peace on the earth. I didn’t come to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I came to set a man at odds against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 A man’s foes will be those of his own household. 37 He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me isn’t worthy of me. 38 He who doesn’t take his cross and follow after me isn’t worthy of me. 39 He who seeks his life will lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.

40 "He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me. 41 He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward. He who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. 42 Whoever gives one of these little ones just a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, most certainly I tell you, he will in no way lose his reward."
