1 Nessa ocasião, os discípulos vieram a Jesus e perguntaram: "Afinal, quem é o maior no reino dos céus?".

2 Então Jesus chamou uma criança pequena e a colocou no meio deles. 3 Em seguida, disse: "Eu lhes digo a verdade: a menos que vocês se convertam e se tornem como crianças, jamais entrarão no reino dos céus. 4 Quem se torna humilde como esta criança é o maior no reino dos céus, 5 e quem recebe uma criança como esta em meu nome recebe a mim."

6 "Mas, se alguém fizer cair em pecado um destes pequeninos que em mim confiam, teria sido melhor ter amarrado uma grande pedra de moinho ao pescoço e se afogado nas profundezas do mar.

7 "Quanto sofrimento haverá no mundo por causa das tentações para o pecado! Ainda que elas sejam inevitáveis, aquele que as provoca terá sofrimento ainda maior. 8 Portanto, se sua mão ou seu pé o faz pecar, corte-o e jogue-o fora. É melhor entrar na vida eterna com apenas uma das mãos ou apenas um dos pés que ser lançado no fogo eterno com as duas mãos e os dois pés. 9 E, se seu olho o faz pecar, arranque-o e jogue-o fora. É melhor entrar na vida eterna com apenas um dos olhos que ser lançado no inferno de fogo com os dois olhos.

10 "Tomem cuidado para não desprezar nenhum destes pequeninos. Pois eu lhes digo que, no céu, os anjos deles estão sempre na presença de meu Pai celestial. 11 E o Filho do Homem veio para salvar os que estão perdidos."

12 "Se um homem tiver cem ovelhas e uma delas se perder, o que vocês acham que ele fará? Não deixará as outras noventa e nove nos montes e sairá à procura da perdida? 13 E, se a encontrar, eu lhes digo a verdade: ele se alegrará por causa dela mais que pelas noventa e nove que não se perderam. 14 Da mesma forma, não é da vontade de meu Pai, no céu, que nenhum destes pequeninos se perca."

15 "Se um irmão pecar contra você, fale com ele em particular e chame-lhe a atenção para o erro. Se ele o ouvir, você terá recuperado seu irmão. 16 Mas, se ele não o ouvir, leve consigo um ou dois outros e fale com ele novamente, para que tudo que você disser seja confirmado por duas ou três testemunhas. 17 Se ainda assim ele se recusar a ouvir, apresente o caso à igreja. Então, se ele não aceitar nem mesmo a decisão da igreja, trate-o como gentio ou como cobrador de impostos.

18 "Eu lhes digo a verdade: o que vocês ligarem na terra terá sido ligado no céu, e o que desligarem na terra terá sido desligado no céu.

19 "Também lhes digo que, se dois de vocês concordarem aqui na terra a respeito de qualquer coisa que pedirem, meu Pai, no céu, os atenderá. 20 Pois, onde dois ou três se reúnem em meu nome, eu estou no meio deles".

21 Então Pedro se aproximou de Jesus e perguntou: "Senhor, quantas vezes devo perdoar alguém que peca contra mim? Sete vezes?".

22 Jesus respondeu: "Não sete vezes, mas setenta vezes sete.

23 "Portanto, o reino dos céus pode ser comparado a um senhor que decidiu pôr em dia as contas com os servos que lhe deviam. 24 No decorrer do processo, trouxeram diante dele um servo que lhe devia sessenta milhões de moedas. 25 Uma vez que o homem não tinha como pagar, o senhor ordenou que ele, sua esposa, seus filhos e todos os seus bens fossem vendidos para quitar a dívida.

26 "O homem se curvou diante do senhor e suplicou: ‘Por favor, tenha paciência comigo, e eu pagarei tudo’. 27 O senhor teve compaixão dele, soltou-o e perdoou-lhe a dívida.

28 "No entanto, quando o servo saiu da presença do senhor, foi procurar outro servo que trabalhava com ele e que lhe devia cem moedas de prata. Agarrou-o pelo pescoço e exigiu que ele pagasse de imediato.

29 "O servo se curvou diante dele e suplicou: ‘Tenha paciência comigo, e eu pagarei tudo’. 30 O credor, porém, não estava disposto a esperar. Mandou que o homem fosse lançado na prisão até que tivesse pago toda a dívida.

31 "Quando outros servos, companheiros dele, viram isso, ficaram muito tristes. Foram ao senhor e lhe contaram tudo que havia acontecido. 32 Então o senhor chamou o homem cuja dívida ele havia perdoado e disse: ‘Servo mau! Eu perdoei sua imensa dívida porque você me implorou. 33 Acaso não devia ter misericórdia de seu companheiro, como tive misericórdia de você?’. 34 E, irado, o senhor mandou o homem à prisão para ser torturado até que lhe pagasse toda a dívida.

35 "Assim também meu Pai celestial fará com vocês caso se recusem a perdoar de coração a seus irmãos".

1 In that hour the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who then is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?"

2 Jesus called a little child to himself, and set him in the middle of them 3 and said, "Most certainly I tell you, unless you turn and become as little children, you will in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. 4 Whoever therefore humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. 5 Whoever receives one such little child in my name receives me, 6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if a huge millstone were hung around his neck and that he were sunk in the depths of the sea.

7 "Woe to the world because of occasions of stumbling! For it must be that the occasions come, but woe to that person through whom the occasion comes! 8 If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life maimed or crippled, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into the eternal fire. 9 If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the Gehenna of fire. 10 See that you don’t despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven. 11 For the Son of Man came to save that which was lost.

12 "What do you think? If a man has one hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine, go to the mountains, and seek that which has gone astray? 13 If he finds it, most certainly I tell you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine which have not gone astray. 14 Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.

15 "If your brother sins against you, go, show him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained back your brother. 16 But if he doesn’t listen, take one or two more with you, that at the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the assembly. If he refuses to hear the assembly also, let him be to you as a Gentile or a tax collector. 18 Most certainly I tell you, whatever things you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever things you release on earth will have been released in heaven. 19 Again, assuredly I tell you, that if two of you will agree on earth concerning anything that they will ask, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the middle of them."

21 Then Peter came and said to him, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times?"

22 Jesus said to him, "I don’t tell you until seven times, but, until seventy times seven. 23 Therefore the Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 When he had begun to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But because he couldn’t pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, with his wife, his children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down and knelt before him, saying, ‘Lord, have patience with me, and I will repay you all!’ 27 The lord of that servant, being moved with compassion, released him and forgave him the debt.

28 "But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him one hundred denarii, and he grabbed him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’

29 "So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will repay you!’ 30 He would not, but went and cast him into prison until he should pay back that which was due. 31 So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were exceedingly sorry, and came and told their lord all that was done. 32 Then his lord called him in and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 33 Shouldn’t you also have had mercy on your fellow servant, even as I had mercy on you?’ 34 His lord was angry, and delivered him to the tormentors until he should pay all that was due to him. 35 So my heavenly Father will also do to you, if you don’t each forgive your brother from your hearts for his misdeeds."
